Wolf Pack only have 2 preseason games (both vs. Bridgeport)... curios to see how long Fwd guys like Carey, Catenacci, Kosmarchuk, Fogarty, Stromwall and a few others stay in NY.
What happened to Carbonara?? I get hungry every time I see/hear his name.
Biggest disappointment for me is probably Boo Nieves. Was in great shape last season and made a push in Camp, then had nearly the entire season destroyed with injuries. He did well and will always do well in those situations where he gets to streak down the ice with the puck, but he showed very little in other areas. AV really likes -- and it's so valuable in the game today -- if a player can be more heady with the puck. Make decisions, think as a part of a 5 man unit. I would like Boo to be able to do more than this, I was expecting more too, he isn't a rookie anymore. Thought Gabe Fontaine was better than him.
Ziba got a cold? How surprising, I am sure he really stuck to hockey and prepared perfectly for camp as usual... How is his new single doing? Sorry, I am just joking.But...
I'm reminded of something a buddy of mine, who works for the Leafs, said this past spring, "Zibanejad doesn't quite understand just how good he can be. He seems like the type who plays hockey because he likes it and is good at it, but it's not the activity he'd pick if there were other options on the table."

Are you guys just trying to dance around saying "he got drunk and is hungover and isn't dedicated to hockey" or what.
As solid as Zibanejad is on the ice — he had 37 points in 54 games this year — he also is apparently quite good at DJing, as evidenced by the release of his debut single on Friday. The 24-year-old put out an EDM track called “Forever†and, honestly, it’s not bad.

You know, it's funny. I run into people who likes Nieves and I just don't seem to see as much as others do. The kid has wheels and good size, but he just lacks in so many different areas to me. He doesn't have the hands, doesn't have the vision, and his speed covers for a lot of times where he just doesn't seem to have a good grasp on what the heck is going on around him. This is now a 23 year old kid whose career high goals at ANY level is 10. I think he has a shot to play in the NHL as a fourth liner, but even then I just don't see him being amazing at the role.
I've watched this kid for five years, going back to the USHL, and every time I just don't "see it."

Chytiljuice can skate... he can really fly. Scouts didn't see it in a slow Czech men's league... but that U-18 Czech team did some damage in their National team tourneys.
He wasn't on the radar as a first rounder until the U18s... and then he rose on every draft chart... that's a consensus from the scouts... when you have that.. you have a good player.
It's the same with Pionk, before the signing I said he'd be the best UFA the Rangers could get... at the time nearly all 30 teams were scouting him for a contract.... 25 tried to sign him. Was spectacular in the Frozen Four tourney.
Rangers went with winners... or guys that competed hard in big games.
Son of Anders with the SHL championship.
Chytiljuice at the U18s.
Pionk during the frozen four.
All good signs.
Graves also had a hell of a memmer during his last season.
They put a lot of stock into big game performances at the junior/minor pro level.
This is the name we're going with now?
I approve.![]()
On Boo.. he's not a shooter... very predictable.. and can't seem to get that you need to shoot the puck.... very passive character.. and to your point, the hockey IQ isn't there for a wanna be playmaker. Athletically... he's got NHL tools. The head and the hands aren't there.
Guys who don't score more than 10 goals below the NHL level aren't going to score more than that at the NHL level... or even make it. Only the tough guys make it with that output... and they're going the way of the Dodo.
On Zibs:
Very true, the Canadians know that about him... not the first time I've heard that... OTT got fed up for that reason... They couldn't get that next step out of him.
The talent is there to be a top line player that can hit 70 points.
I think Nieves, right now, could be a 20 point 4th line player. Top PKer. Probably 5g and 15a. At 23 I think he could approve from there.

Just saw a replay of the Islanders game. Agree with everything that has been said.
A few notes.
Neal Pionk was great with the puck, but I also want to point out that he plays a very solid defensive game. Calm and collected, very good position and timing in how he moves. Keeps a good distance. I would have zero problems playing this kid in the NHL right away.
Antony DeAngelo will mix a little bad with all good, he is a little jittery and tries to do too much at times. OTOH, he is still a rookie. Don't think he would need a lot of time to settle down. I NY he would mostly play with the same guys on a shift by shift basis. Now he is neck to neck in tough competition with some good players. New org. With a guy like Tony D you can keep him on the outside and ask for mistake free hockey and wait in vain like Carolina have done with Ryan Murphy, or you can just focus and his strengths and let the other parts of his catch up as you move forward. I am definitely for ADA starting in the NHL. You need to afford these kids time to grow into the league..
Lias Andersson didn't have a bad game, but he can do more. Should do more, get a little more time with the puck. First game out of the way -- let's see him build on this!

I like Lettieri, but engine is an issue. Doesn't cover a lot of ice.
I like Ryan Graves, always have. I think his first step stood out the most to be all game to be honest. He gets going really well, which is impressing for someone 6'5. I also thought that he was just really good defensively, our best defensive player after the captain. Strong and just very solid and effective. Has some issues when he gets up in the play -- like all Ds must be able to do nowadays -- and then has to head back again. Still lacks a bit of agility in those areas, can learn to evaluate situations a little better to avoid those races back up ice facing his own goalie. I wouldn't mind seing Graves in the NHL this season at all.
JT Miller played a really good game, he is getting a big shot at a big role, he looks like he wants to take a run at it. Great to see!
McD is fantastic!
Nash wants to get paid. Looking good.

Have you watched Gilmour play? only saw him briefly last year, haven't watched him since. Curious as to what he's supposed to become?
