Doughty - Forbort
LaDue - Martinez ... I kinda like this pairing, very intriguing
Fantenberg - Gravel ... Gravel will put up Borts stats if allowed to play his game
McNabb...... Greene (LTIR)

That pair will get destroyed in the hard forechecking West.

Ugh that would be terrible. Brown obviously isn't worth his cap hit but I wouldn't trade the 11th overall pick just to clear his salary. And then he goes to a divisional team? Even worse. Oh, and then they sign 31 (in December) Oshie with his >20% shooting % to a 5-6 year deal for $6+ million? Yuck.

Doubt we have to worry about it, impact free agents don't come out west.

Not sure impact isn't the right word. Schneider and Demitra came to the Kings. Scuderi too, although I'm sure the money helped. Mitchell remained on the west coast. Again, the years he got on that first contract after a concussion helped. The bigger name guys usually don't go too far west though. Usually. Some slip through a crack in the wall. At the time, Fedorov was a huge name when he went to the Ducks. Blake played his entire career in the mountain and pacific time zones. Oshie was born in Washington state, so that could be something he looks for, who knows. The Canucks or Sharks are closer to that home than the Kings, but only time will tell.

That's not really fair, Blake was drafted by the Kings, spent 12 years in LA, was traded to Colorado (where he won a cup) and re-signed, then came back to the only other org he knew, then went to SJ because he saw an opportunity to win again.

Point is, getting drafted by one team and traded to another (re-signing after winning a cup) that makes up 90% of your career is different than jumping from team to team of his own volition.

I think that might begin to change. Especially for LA and Anaheim. With the addition of Las Vegas there's now 4 teams in a "sleep in your bed" road game distance (Anaheim, Vegas, Arizona, & San Jose). There will likely also be a team in Seattle in a couple years as well (although that's probably a hotel stay).

It's not all that different or better in the east now. Take Boston for example. New York City is a 4 hour drive without traffic (and you're gonna hit it traffic, trust me!) Montreal is, idk, 5 hours?, and with a border crossing. It's really just the Islanders, Devils, and Rangers that are really close to each other. The only others teams that are that close to each other are the Kings and Ducks.

What's not fair? I'm sure Blake had options at the time, but chose to stay in the west. Gretzky went to NY a few years prior.

I'm saying the impact free agent situation isn't a non-option. It depends on how you define impact. Scuderi is about the most boring free agent a team could sign, but he made a huge difference.

i'm all for the drouin trade. it will create a hole on the backend but that's why you sign alzner on Free agency, ideally

If the last two seasons are any indication where the NHL is going (younger + faster - and I think Blake realizes this), whomever we target in a trade and or trade + extend it should be a younger forward, not a player like Oshie.

13% state tax for LA, Anaheim, and SJ; maybe 20-30% if single payer is passed.
0% state tax for LV

where would you go?

Presented in a vacuum where the potential FA cares only about money: Vegas, of course.

No way single-payer gets passed via a 15% increase to state taxes for the citizenry: it would be levied on employers. Still not happening anyways but your point about the taxes remains.

Let's not forget MacDermid is waiver eligible and had a solid 2 seasons in the AHL. With Greene in limbo and guys like Mitchell and Regehr gone we need at least one guy like this back there.

Thinking of Muzzin running from Tkahcuk and Doughty getting punked makes me sick. McNabb is the only with balls on the back end, Forbort has shown he will stand up for guys if he has to but it's not his game. LaDue, Muzzin, Martinez, Gravel, Doughty are all puck movers.

I understand the league is changing and even the Kings model of one puck mover and one stay at home or tough D is gone but you can't have 6 softies and McNabb back there.

Muzzin isn't a puck mover.

Yup, his first pass is average at best. If Stevens plans to relax centermen's position on the breakout to incorporate more offense, that doesn't bode all that well for Muzzin. He has a terrific shot, and is very mobile for a player of his size, but his puck skills and readd aren't exactly stellar. He isn't a kid either.

I would have no problem moving him.

Muzzin + prospect/pick for Drouin is a no-brainer. Drouin hasn't even scratched the surface of how good he is going to be. He'll end up being the best player on the team within 24 months if he's here. You do that deal yesterday, today and tomorrow.

You can easily replace Muzzin with a stopgap FA if necessary.

The Kings still haven't replaced Matt Greene/Willie Mitchell/RR/Jarret Stoll/Slava Voynov.

It's not as (Easy), as people think.

Matt Greene/Willie Mitchell clearing out the net in front of Quick, has been sorely missed.

I highly doubt Tampa would take Muzzin as the basis for a trade.

Yep. We have a couple good depth prospects on the blue line, but still sorely missing a guy like Mitchell. His 2012 campaign was incredible.

Kings still haven't found a Third line Center like Stoll. When the Kings probably lose Trevor Lewis to Vegas, they are going to have a hard time replacing him.

Drouin is exactly the kind of offensive player we could need. NOt just for his raw production individually, the guy is an out-and-out playmaker, and we're short on those. Plenty of guys who can bang the puck in, not plenty who can think like him.
