If Gaborik AND Kempe both crack 15 goals each, we're having a really good ****ing year.

I doubt that happens.

I don't think a 5 goal difference is that much of a stretch. Gaborik played 50 games last season and had 10 goals; if he can stay healthy I'm sure he can easily hit 15.

I'll take a crack at this...

Carter - 35
Toffoli - 25
Pearson - 25
Kopitar - 18
Brown - 12
Gaborik - 12
Kempe - 8
Shore - 7
Dowd - 5

Doughty - 15
Martinez - 13
Muzzin - 12
Forbort - 5
Gravel - 3
LaDue - 3

I'd be extremely disappointed if Kempe got less than 10 goals next season.

Our best forward prospect not being able to crack 10 in his 2nd season? Pearson was able to score 12 in 40 in his sophomore season before being injured.

It comes down to context. He did that playing on the second line.
Kempe will likely be a third line player next year. And then will be get PP time?
I tend to agree that we'd hope he'd score 10. And with a new system being brought in that could help. But we've been so use to our 3rd line guys putting up such dismal numbers it's hard to have that expectation.

I tend to think the biggest difference maker for the upcoming season aside form a new philosophy will be the structure of the lines..... One would think Kopiatr/Toffoli and Carter/Pearson are a given and with Gabby likely starting on the IR, Kempe might get a good amount of top 6 minutes and PP time until MG is ready...

He was an afterthought last season. Pearson was considerably better than him when drafted.

I'm not sure what people are expecting with Kempe. I see him as a 15-20 goal guy at his peak. He's being overrated big time because the Kings pipeline bone dry.

Kempe is not even a scoring forward in the AHL, what makes you people think he is going to turn it around in the NHL, against the best players in the world ?

His best assets, are his speed/size/IQ, never been his scoring(or Drive).

If Kempe gets 10-15 Goals, that is a banner year for him in the NHL, way beyond expectations.

If Kempe hits 20 Goals, HOLY COW !

Good point, Kempe's career high in the AHL has been 12 goals, and it's also been a bit of a struggle for him to stay healthy. Given his tools, he could be a left handed version of Trevor Lewis (with better hands), though he still needs to exhibit a more consistent work ethic.

Eh, I was throwing the crowd a bone.

Well, lets just say if Kempe can't outscore 19 year old Kyle Clifford I'll be pretty bummed out.

I always thought Kempe had an offensive upside, but maybe I was misinformed.

Take this with a very large grain of salt but I talked to someone, who claims to know someone that has "inside" info. He said that Blake is planning on freeing up some cap space and pursuing Joe Thornton in free agency.

If the dude works at Taco Bell, I totally believe it! ;)

All kidding aside, why? I mean, what's the point of adding an old, slow, Joe Thornton if you don't have anyone who can finish?

Haha, I don't know where he works. Don't know him really, but he said some pretty compelling stuff.

Apparently, (this is according to him), Thornton and Blake are friends from their time in SJ together. Both Thornton and Marleau want 3 year deals from SJ, but because the Sharks have a lot of players to resign in the following off seasons, they're only willing to give one of Thornton/Marleau a deal of that length. They're leaning towards Marleau because they think he's healthier / has more longevity.

On top of being friends with Blake, Thornton likes California, and likes being near the coast. He's big into deep sea fishing I was told.

Nick Shore was a better point producer in the AHL. That should tell us all something.

I was afraid of this. Guys, get ready for the Callan Foote era! :help:

Thanks for the details. :)

Well that sounds awesome! We get to pay Thornton millions a year to deep sea fish. :shakehead

The only prospect right now that appears to have the offensive ability to be a 20 goal scorer is Brodzinski, and I'm not sure he has the other tools required to play consistently in the top 6. Kempe, I think, is more like a Donnelly type.

Things change, but that's how I see it now.

I don't know. I'm pretty intrigued by it. Assuming it doesn't interfere with our ability to resign Doughty/Forbort/Toffoli. I think Thornton is still going to be productive for a few more years.

I agree, it would give them the option to move Carter to the top line with Kopitar and Thornton could center Toffoli and Pearson.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

He could definitely be an asset on the power play. I do wonder about his knee injury and it affecting him long term. He isn't getting faster and that's for sure.

The draft choice could be enough, for instance, for Dallas to pry someone like Alexander Edler away from the Vancouver Canucks. Or maybe it’s enough for the Carolina Hurricanes to part ways with Justin Faulk, especially with a defense corps that already has Jaccob Slavin, Noah Hanifin, Ryan Murphy and a few up-and-comers on the way. How about targeting the New York Islanders, who have a logjam of their own, and trying to pry away Nick Leddy or Travis Hamonic? Maybe the Los Angeles Kings, in need of a shakeup, would consider shipping either Jake Muzzin or Alec Martinez to Dallas if the third-overall pick was coming the other way.
Not sure if its a good idea based on this being a weak draft
