2017 Offseason Thread 4.0 - Free Agent Frenzy Time

Yes and no. That it's him, yes, that they are looking for inexpensive ways to upgrade the wing? and thinking outside th box No. And giving him a PTO is a very low risk. He's 27 and from an interview a couple years ago, missing NA and wanted (then) back in the NHL. He's played well in the KHL but it's not the same speed or skill as NHL but it's a good option for them.


Dwight King was in EF's 30 thoughts column today (as were the Kings/Stevens in a few 'thoughts) DK says he has feelers from some WC teams, prefers the WC and is trying to lose about 5 lb.s (230 current to 225 lbs) . Not sure that will help. But best of luck to him.
 
Elliot Friedman just mentioned in his latest article regarding the Brown/Phaneuf situation, that it was actually a Gaborik/Phaneuf trade being discussed. If that's the case, I wish it had happened. We'd be adding some cap, but for a player who's still solid, plus we have the cap space. I wonder if it's still being discussed. We'd have to add a pretty big sweetener however.
 
Doesn't hurt to have someone to give Shore and Dowd some competition for the 3/4 center spot. Both left a lot to be desired and were very inconsistent in their roles.

I cant see Dwighty boy getting more than a PTO offer.
 
I wonder if they see Loktionov as a wing or center.

Interestingly, Brandon Kozun lead Loktionov's KHL team in scoring last year.

He should be, though I wonder if the new coaching staff/management still views him as a C or a W? He's been at his most productive as a winger, and he's had his biggest struggles with consistency as a center.

Kempe will be 21 by the time training camp roles around, and he already has two seasons of AHL experience. His career highs in the minors aren't all that great though, with a high of 12 goals and 28 points.

If Toffoli, Pearson, Cammalleri and Gaborik are locks as the top 4 wingers in the top 6, then I figure there is room for Kempe to compete for a spot as the 3rd line LW.

But like you mentioned, if they still view him as a C, he could also be in consideration for the 3rd C spot.
 
So maybe the rumors heard were probably just "Blake wants to bring back a Russian", but not the one anyone would've thought of.

He doesn't seem strong enough to slot in at C but I have no problem taking a flier on a guy with some skill and vision that is already familiar with LA.
 
don't sure about this. Loktionov was ok in KHL, but nothing special. Also don't think that he can play center in NHL. He is better suited for the wing.
 
I used to like Loki. You know, back when being a Kings fan was moderately fun. Back before trading all future for boring mediocrity. So, now that my rant is done, what happened to him? Why did he go to russia.?

He couldn't cut it on the Devils.
 
This had got to be a favor for larionov. Is he an agent for anyone else? I simply am speechless about this. Just....why?
