At least Kopitar won't be the highest paid player in the league next year. What he will do is the biggest story going into October. Everything flows from that. The short term fate of the franchise rests on his shoulders, whether he wants that or not. We'll either get to rip on the highly paid hibernating bear in the winter months, or watch him play well. Fun one way or the other.

our hockey operations team, led by rob blake and john stevens, believe in the collective make-up of this group. Since taking over back in april, they have already made improvements highlighted by significant changes to our coaching staff that will emphasize creativity, while focusing on implementing an effective offensive approach, as well as maintaining our stalwart defensive game.

Our culture remains strong and our belief that we belong at the top of the nhl has only been strengthened by these changes and our attention and focus on the following:

New multi-year contract extensions for tyler toffoli and tanner pearson, both of whom are entering their prime

a core group in anze kopitar, drew doughty, jonathan quick, jeff carter, toffoli, pearson, dustin brown, alec martinez and jake muzzin that we believe is as strong, proven and dynamic as any other group in the nhl

full recovery and renewed health for quick, toffoli and marian gaborik, and the expectation that several key players will return to their productive ways

upgrades in depth and skill with the off-season additions of michael cammalleri, christian folin, oscar fantenberg and alex iafallo. Plus, a significant upgrade to our depth in goal with the signings of darcy kuemper and highly-touted goaltender cal petersen

the promise of young, emerging players such as adrian kempe, jonny brodzinski, paul ladue, derek forbort and kevin gravel

additional cap space and a full commitment from ownership to spend to the cap

a newly created coaching role for nhl-great pierre turgeon, who will specifically focus on helping implement an up-tempo, attacking offensive style of play

as it relates specifically to our coaching staff, these new additions to our staff will implement new strategies allowing us to evolve with the changing landscape in the nhl without sacrificing our established brand of hockey that we feel positions us to contend for more stanley cups.

Luc is crossing his fingers that the players bounce back and the coaching staff do wonders. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Yeah...that doesn't make me excited.

"We like the team as is, just needed new coaching. I also needed to be the guy running the show, too. Offense will increase if the President and GM have actually scored goals at the NHL level"

All we can do is hope that it is up-tempo like he says, no matter the results. At least let us be entertained. Hopefully it leads to wins but I'd just like to remember why I enjoy going to live hockey games without having to buy a ticket to a Ducks game.

Budaj to Bishop to Kuemper and his 3.13 GAA, not seeing an upgrade there. If Quick or anybody in the top 6 go down the season is immediately over. This team just does not have the depth except on defense to cover down years, injuries or slumps. The system is going to have to be so creative that it takes the league by storm or we're looking at a lot of 2-1 games.

That "open letter" is more of a PR piece in order to sell more season tickets. As expected, the ineptitude of the organization to increase ticket prices and to expect the fans to renew shows how full of it the upper management group is, led by Dan Beckerman, the CEO of AEG and the Kings.

They are hurting for sales now, and they were banking on gullible fans to continue to shell out money for a declining product.

I'm still hopeful that this team will improve this season, but I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment, nor am I going to invest any money in them. I'd rather just wait to shell out some money on the second hand market for playoff tickets, if they get that far.

Yesterday was my first day of Select-A-Seat. I wonder how many people who did early renewal in March are dropping out now.

My parents are back in at $37.50 a seat. They've had seats for two season now. My mom says going to the games is her favorite thing to do.

She said that after last season. Has complete faith in Quickie, Kopi, Brownie etc.

I'm also the greatest person in the world. Moms are awesome.

Kuemper was probably just brought in just to compete with Campbell in camp. Don't want to just hand over the backup spot to Campbell that easily.

All of this. Spin spin spin. We lost McNabb, added Cammaleri to the same group that has 1 win in 3 playoffs. Garbaccio.

I dropped this season after having tickets since the last few seasons at the Forum.

Some of it was because I moved even further south in the OC, but really it was the secondary market. When I couldn't make the drive, at least I was recouping most of my costs and making some money on the good weekend games. Tickets for many games late last season were single digits, it shows how many people were interested.

The price increases just made it easier. They had already pissed me off when they made my seats in the first two rows "premiere" or whatever and jacked up the cost a ridiculous amount. They damn well know people in those seats have been supporting the team for a very long time, not a great way to reward them.

Tell me about it. Took a bath on the my extras to end the season. Tickets were going for below pre-season Stub Hub prices.

There is nothing to promote for this team either. "The same guys will be better" doesn't look good on a billboard.

They just need to go out and acquire another modern day version of a 27-year old Ziggy Palffy, just as they did in '99.

http://www.nytimes.com/1999/06/21/s...palffy-goes-to-kings-isles-get-prospects.html
The Kings coveted Palffy for many reasons. They are set to begin play in a new arena next fall, and after struggling last season, they need a marquee player like Palffy to help them sell tickets and win more games. They finished 32-45-5.

Too bad nobody like him is available, unless you consider Matt Duchene to be at that level (which he is not). Plus I don't know if the Kings have what it takes to land a Duchene, unless Joe Sakic is a horrible GM and can be taken advantage of just as he was when he dealt O'Reilly to Buffalo.

I knew this was going to happen as soon as Luc was put in charge. He is all about PR. This is something I don't think Dean would have done, which is another reason he is gone. There is no spin to be put on this other than if the highest played players aren't the best players on the team, or if they get injured, the team will not make the playoffs. The Kings have no depth.

I may invest some money in a playoff game or two via the secondary market, if they are tied 2-2, or up 2-1 in the 1st round.

Aren't they though!

I have more faith in Campbell than I do in Kuemper. Campbell was so damn solid coming up through USAH, then DAL **** the kid up. I'm hoping he continues to get back to where he was a few short years ago. Darcy is on his last NHL contract imo, the guy couldn't get it done in MIN. He struggled forever with the Wild and hopefully ends up in ONT with the Reign.

Luc is just a PR mouthpiece though, he's (thankfully) not calling the shots when it comes to hockey decisions. I think he has even said as such that he doesn't want to get involved in that area and is focusing on the business side of things.

He was brought in from Tim Leiweke, so it makes sense that he learned a thing or two from him. I believe even the title that Luc inherited used to be similar to Leiweke's role, however, he still has to answer to Dan Beckerman. I believe that Luc will also be representing the organization at governor meetings. It's the exact same position Cam Neely has in Boston, except Neely is more hands on and involved in hockey ops, https://www.nhl.com/bruins/team/exec-hockey-ops-cam-neely

Sounds like Budaj!

completely agree, this is a PR move. show on paper the team is moving forward, acknowledge some shortcomings and discuss ways to improve.

it's all words until the puck hits the ice in October. we know they are limited on what they can do because of contracts, prospects, draft picks and salary cap. it is the hell they ended up in from DL's misjudgments the past few years.

if anything at least Luc is drawing a line and putting in stone what is expected and won't be expected.

Turgeon hiring I'm good with, it's a new twist for the NHL. traditionally the asst coaches are split between O and D responsiblities, while also handling lines. to now have a guy that is solely responsible to watch 'from up top' what is happening could and may prove advantageous. the same way that NFL teams decades ago turned to D and O coordinators, many of which sit up top to get a different view of the game. for years all of this has been done by the HC, asst coaches and the video coach(es). now they get another set of eyes and brain on what/what is not happening.

the guy was crazy gifted and a great offensive talent, if anything it will be a very fresh perspective in that locker room after the Murray to Sutter years.

time will tell

Yeah I mean I have no problem with the moves that have been made this offseason, there wasn't much that could be done. Just stop with the ********, Luc. It insults our intelligence. The Kings aren't in a position to compete for anything more than the 8 seed.

Even with a similar lineup from year to year there can be a lot of variance with a teams' results.

I think for sure CHI, MIN, ANA & EDM will all finish above the Kings, while COL, VAN, & VGK will all finish below the Kings.

Anywhere from 5th to 12th in conference is wide open for us.

I think you can add Calgary and Nashville to the list of teams that will finish above the Kings.

Dunno about Minny, I think the Kings can jump them. It will be close.
