Kyle Clifford is underrated

His heart and passion for the game and team is underrated but getting paid 1.6 million for energy that a kid can provide every year is not being underrated . He will never score more than 20 points a season or more than 8 goals a year . He is a 4th line plug and easily replaceable

We have to many similar players to Clifford , in Nolan , Andreoff , Imama who might even be better . To replaceable . We can roll a more skilled 4th line with Kempe/Brodzinski-Shore-Lewis

yaya i get that, he is overpaid

but this past season he was one of the best Kings players lol

i can't even say that without laughing...

I don't think Nolan and Andreoff are in Clifford's class when it comes to toughness.

I wouldn't rate Clifford as a plug based on his past performance, but I think he is getting a bit long in the tooth for his role. By the time his contract is up he will be pushing 30 years of age. This may be his last deal.

The problem is, a million dollars here, five hundred thousand there, it doesn't seem like a whole lot. But when everyone in the bottom six is overpaid just a bit, that's likely the difference between signing a top six forward or not. Especially if Brown and Gaborik wind up in our bottom six.

Exactly, with Doty becoming a UFA soon, ever dollar counts. And Clifford is pricey for this team.

I think guys like Clifford and Nolan have become complacent and moving them out for some fresh blood would help the bottom-6

Clifford is also well liked in the locker room and maybe moving him will be a wake up call for some of the guys

Honestly, when was the last time Clifford actually felt like a difference maker on the ice? Maybe I still have a bad taste from the Tkachuck-Doughty nonsense but still, he's gone stale imo

Clifford and Nolan are definitely the issue when your highest paid player score 12 goals. Kings make the playoffs if Kopitar has another 15 points.

Your commentary is a bit ridiculous, of course it's easy to place the blame on the highest paid guy but you could also say if the lousy defensive play of both Amart and Muzzin hadn't cost us 6+ games with crucial TOs.. we would have made the playoffs.... the team as a whole failed so various reasons period....

After the Lucic trade many experts expected the Kings to make a long run in the POs, but they fell flat despite being one of the better teams in the league... so let's not pretend this team is dog **** all of a sudden....

Im sure hed have 15 more points if he had average top 6 wingers. Kopitar can only carry 4th line caliber wingers for so long. Eventually we probably need to put some talent with him.

Incorrect, the Kings defense and goaltending was one of the best yet again.

Kopitar has never played with wingers matching his talent. Last year was an outlier and hopefully he rebounds. If not, the Kings are DONE.

Kopitar lost lucic last year and replaced him with 4th line nhl talent.

Kopitar's defensive game which he is best known for was awful last season. So was his face-off work. He was a mediocre center in nearly all categories last season which was a stark difference to the usual Kopitar slumps we dealt with before where at least he still won face-offs and wasn't a liability.

I would actually rather have King than Clifford, frankly.

I don't know if Clifford and Nolan were complacent, it may have been Sutter and co reeling them in a little, to play that even keel hockey without too many highs and lows. It could of course be a case of getting really hurt (Reaves fight) or a change of priorities (Kids, family)

It will be interesting to see if the kings play more balls out hockey with a new boss, or if we are in for more uninspired play.

Fun fact - Jagr would have been the Kings third highest scorer last season in points and goals! His work ethic alone is needed. Get it done Rob!

I am 150% for Jagr playing on Kopitar's wing.

Pearson - Kopitar - Jagr
Kempe - Carter - Toffoli

People keep saying how overpaid Clifford is, and then they say trade him. Why would another team want him at $1.6m if he's overpaid? Maybe retain 50% then? So you save a whole $800k for the next 3 years? You could send him to Ontario and save more than that.

Other teams would want him for a variety of reasons that the Kings no longer need him for. Veteran leadership, 2 time cup winner, maybe it's a rebuilding team that doesn't care what he really makes as long as he's a positive influence on the kids and keeps the other team honest?

He's beyond stale on the Kings and when every dollar counts he should be moved.

Maybe, but sadly at this point i dont even think Clifford should be in the NHL. So i dont think leadership is enough to get a team to pay this guy going forward.
