perhaps the best signing of the day, was the official signing of Cal Peterson.

I like the Folin signing too. 6'3" 215 RHD with 114 NHL games under his belt.
May make it possible to deal either Muzzin / Martinez and put pressure on:
Gravel, LaDue, Fantenberg, to push. Competition. Folin led the Wild defensemen with 1.2 hits per game.

Cammalleri (if reasonably sound health wise) should score an easy 40 points,
which does help a helluva lot more than Purcell or Seto could muster. Help PP too
and if plays with Kopi, a ton better than Dwight King for him to play with.

Well the question is, do you think our team on an individual basis is talented? If so, wouldn't it make sense that if they play more of an offensive game rather than a generic throw it in style, that they'd actually be more successful?

That's my point though. These guys haven't done it for three seasons now.

It's another summer of hoping. **** in one hand, hope in the other...

It feels black hole. I think that's the one thing we all agree we don't want.

We are 100% in the black hole, and that's not likely to change any time soon

Hey man I totally feel it. The only reason I have hope to be honest is because Sutter is gone and DL is gone. If the kings play an offensive style which they never have, then they might surprise a lot of people. Let's say they do play an offensive style, and still suck, then there isn't much to hope for at all.

Unless vilardi develops quickly, and joins the team. Lol.

It's still better than tossing good money at marginal players which was my biggest concern if Blake struck out on Thornton.

I think my problem is the "win now" mentality over maybe going another direction. Have to have a lot of faith in these guys after the last three seasons.

My faith is obviously lacking.

If we miss the playoffs again this year , what's the over/under Blake and Stevens are fired ?

I don't think fired, but I DO think they'll start selling. They're probably just in a one-year grace period of making the team competitive without Sutter/Lombardi before going "ok yeah this stinks dynamite the whole thing"

I LOVE the Folin signing. Really do. Petersen too. Underrated prospect/potential signings. I really like what Blake did here today for the future, though obviously he didn't solve any of our offensive problems for the now. This might be the greatest collection of 20-40 goal scorers that has no way of scoring 20-40 goals ever

Thornton on a 1 year deal makes sense for SJ. Probably will be the first of a series of 1 year deals to keep the AAV down for that second year.

if the first was $6.5 and the second year was 3.5 (just for argument) then a two year AAV would be $5. Sharks have cap issues in 2018-2019. They have $22 million in space with only 11 contracts signed.

I think there may be a wink wink nudge nudge deal for 2018-2019.

So Blake said this is the roster they are going with. I am somewhat disappointed, I know it's hard to draw UFAs but he should focus on trades. THis team has missed the playoffs and ticket prices are still on the rise even with the lousey product on the ice. We're gonna be in the bottom with Vancouver and Phoenix again.

So Blake and Robitaille say they are "going for it", and the best they can come up with as far as the current roster goes, is 10 goal Cammalleri? Pretty sad. Don't we also have like 8 mil in cap space?

Blake told Rosen this is what they are going into camp with , apparently they will sign a goalie and that's it. They want to play the kids Brodzinski , Kempe , Auger but they should at least bring in a 3C. If we have a 3C we would be much better off. I'm not sold on Dowd and Shore . Even though I believe Shore has more to offer . So we will have lot of cap space left for next year interesting.

Lot of cap space so if a trade happens, the other team doesn't have to retain. That should lower the cost.

Signing Folin will be the gem today. Getting Martinez off Right side will do more for our standings than most FA available forwards honestly. If we can get our goals against down to a normal Kings level, we'll probably make playoffs.

Blake said that Cammallari being bought out changed their plans a bit. Maybe (given the quote about this being the team that would be in camp) they intended to go with youth all along.

Rob Blake re Thornton: 'i'm not sure we ever thought we had a chance. Talked to his camp, showed a lot of interest...didn't work out.'

He didn't think they had a chance but the local media thought it was a done deal.

And I would think they will still be looking to upgrade that 3C , if they can.

What about David Desharnias or Mikhail Grigorenko for 3rd line Center?

Desharnais is 5'7 that's why he worked out better in east than west.

Grigorenko is 23 had 27 points and 23 points and is only going to get better after being rushed by Sabres. I really want the Kings to sign him but idk if Blake even knows he's available. He can have a big re-emergence and would be a young cheap option. He is more skilled too I believe just needs confidence he was the 12 overall pick and put up respectable numbers in the CHL and AHL until he was rushed into NHL
