Sakic is a terrible GM. The Avalanche are one of the worst teams in the league at every level. Atrocious organization.

This.

I can't believe somebody in the owners can't see how poor his decisions have been. At some point, he needs to go.
Props to Duchene for playing so well ,esp post all star break , when in just about every post game, home or away, he was asked about being traded. That's gotta get old after awhile

Sakic is a fool and he's losig ground. Carolina has has at least 2 offers that I read about, both good ones. He's gonna price himself right outta the market

Joe Sakic: Great ****ing player, terrible ****ing GM.

I'm always leery of former players turned GM. Hopefully Blake can buck the trend as most who have made the transition have been subpar.

To be fair to Rob, he has a college education and worked for both the league and as our minor league GM learning from Lombardi et. al. before this move.

I don't think Sakic even did anything with the P.A., never mind any other learning posts, before jumping to the Avs front office and they've had nothing remotely like our organization in front of him to learn from. Not saying Sakic isn't smart, but he's definitely not as prepared as Rob, and might be the least-qualified GM in the league from anything but a playing talent standpoint.

Furthermore, credit to Rob for not getting in the way of Futa and Yannetti. Not trying to assert himself due to ego. He completely deferred to their judgement in this draft. There's something in that. A good GM listens to his player-personnel people.

I think a better comparison in our org to Sakic would be Luc, as far as front office personnel go. Thank the high heavens that Luc isn't our GM.

I agree. I think in retrospect, Luc's promotion after Lombardi was fired scared me more than Blake, who actually had experience doing stuff outside of PR/marketing.

I hated Blake as a player, and was not initially happy with him getting the GM spot, but I have been happy with him to date. No knee jerk reaction trades like Bowman, kept all of our assets, had a successful draft, resigned Toffoli and Pearson to great deals, and opened up cap space for a potential move for a UFA or trade. Reminds me more of Yzerman than Sakic.

NYR fan here - wondering what the organization/fan feelings are on mike amadio, and what the price would be for him.

Mike Amadio is a gem. We believe he was a steal for us in the 3rd round who just keeps improving every year. They say he plays like Mike Richards . Possible we see him up this year at some point. Kid can play .

Not sure what he's worth but I think he's untouchable as we need a 3rd line center and he can definitely be as early as this year. He has top 6 potential

I was thinking earlier today of how a Lombardi draft would've resembled Blakes drafting today. Would he have taken 2 centers back to back, or moved up like he always seemed to do?

Apparently, they tried to move up yesterday to assure they get Vilardi, but got no bites and lucked out anyway.

Very happy with our draft. They kept it simple and got some great players with tons of potential. Didn't do anything stupid and were rewarded. Usually the best decision is to do nothing at all.

At the very minimum I see a Carter replacement in Gabriel Vilardi. If the Kings can knock out a few really strong drafts in the next couple years we'll be in good shape.

Nice to properly reload the future for the first time in years. Depressing to still think about Kyle Connor though...

Good start so far for Blake and Co.

They added a forward who I think has a good chance to be better than any forward Lombardi drafted in his eleven drafts as Kings GM. He also added some much needed speed and a goaltender. Amazing what can be done when picks aren't given away on rentals. I think within the next couple of years the Kings should have an adequate system to draw from, something they clearly don't right now.

The NHL level may take more time because Blake is so handcuffed by the ridiculous contracts and the lack of early 20's cheap NHL talent because of how bungled this whole thing has been the last three years. The draft showed Blake's vision is to be more skilled, but we probably won't be able to see that at the NHL level for a couple of years because right now he is in cleanup mode.

He can also bust out completely. He wasn't passed on accidentally. Should wait and see what happens and not count your chickens before they're hatched.

Even if he was passed on, he's still arguably the team's best draft pick since Toffoli. When was the last time the team took the BPA who actually has superb skill?

So far I like Blake but I think Lombardi was a real pro. He would have made deals at the expansion draft and regular draft. He was assistant GM of the North Stars under Ferreira, the assistant and then GM of the Sharks st a young age, then a scout in Philly, and the our GM. He has also has a law degree and played college hockey. He spent 8 years as an assistant GM. I believe he then spent 6-7 seasons as the Sharks GM. So are talking about 14-15 years of assistant GM and GM experience before taking over in La compared to Blake's 4.

My concern is that Blake relies too much on Futa and the scouts. I want him to step up and make a bold move.

To be fair, Blake said he came late to the process and deferred to the scouts.

Lombardi doesn't get blame/credit around here for the Bernier draft. If that's the accepted storyline, then Blake is in the same boat for this draft.

Too soon to tell if it was a great draft or not, but I have great faith in the Kings player development system. Something for which we can thank Lombardi. Let's hope AEG continues to see the value in the development system and maintains it.

If the Kings aren't as competitive as Robitaille thinks they will be, perhaps additional assets will be added over the next season which will make the Kings and up and coming team again within a few years.

You make a good point, it only takes a few years of trading away assets and handing out ridiculous long term contracts to significantly damage a franchise. It's going to take time to recover, so I think patience is the right frame of mind for now.

We can only hope a Doughty trade, if it comes to that, brings in a top defensive asset.

If, and it's still a big if this comes to pass, I think Toronto is the best trading partner for the Kings. Blake should ask for Nylander or Marner and Liljegren. The Leafs have a few other high-end prospects that are defensemen as well in Zaitsev and Reilly.

In short the Kings have what the Leafs need, and the Leafs have what the Kings need, IF Doughty won't re-sign in LA.

The more one looks at it, the better something like:

Doughty for Nylander/Marner, Liljegren/Zaitsev/Reilly, and a 1st round pick sounds.
