His new contract is peanuts, but AA's fate was settled with me when he decided to face wash Tkachuk into submission rather than drop the gloves.

If there was ever a time to stand up for one of the league's best defenseman, it was then.

Agreed. Andreoff should have dropped his gloves and started pounding him. Shawn Thornton pounded Emelin and didn't ask questions or wait.

Isn't there a quote from Blake saying the Kings plan on being very active in the UFA market?

If that's the case, he's probably got his eyes on a few guys in particular.

Btw if Paul Bissonette or Kurtis MacDermid would have played in the Flames Kings rematch there would have been hell to pay. Nolan didn't even dress. Clifford just talked to Tkachuk. Sometimes I think the wrong guys are in the minors.

I think the signings of Purcell, latta, trotman, et al. were done in part because of an expected salary cap logjam this season. Better UFAs would want term and the signings we did were 1 year deals for the most part. We couldn't give UFAs term.

We couldn't count on a $2 million cap increase for certain. We also thought Toffoli/Pearson would get $10 million combined and not the $8,350,000 that they got. A flat cap and toffoli not getting hurt would mean we'd be right up against the cap now.

And that is without signing a UFA last offseason. Had we signed someone, that would mean someone had a great chance of getting traded in a cap dump this off season.

I think Blake may be kicking the tires on Sharp. Mitchell had concussion concerns too and he got that extra year from us that other teams didn't want to give.

Upon browsing possible UFA's, Bonino seems like the best option if the price/term is right. It really appears some sort of trade is the only route to upgrade the roster. Gonna be tough.

Bonino? The Kings are loaded at center with Kopitar, Carter, Shore, and Dowd. Lewis and Andreoff are also centers playing the wing.

If anything the Kings need a LW or RW to play with Kopitar.

Pearson-Kopitar-Brown
Mersch-Carter-Toffoli
Kempe-Shore-Lewis
Andreoff/Clifford-Dowd-Brodzinski/Nolan
Also, Auger has to clear waivers. Same with Mersch.

I think Auger and Mersch won't be with the Kings organization much longer. Their opportunity has come and gone.

In terms of trade options, the most attractive name is Matt Duchene, but he won't come cheap. I guess that rules out Kempe as an option at LW for Kopitar, which means he will be vying for a spot as the 3rd line C (leaving Shore and Dowd to battle for the 4th C spot), or Kempe could be packaged in a trade to upgrade the team's scoring.

I wonder if the team is planning on trying Brodzinski with Kopitar and a proven LW who could also make plays and put the puck in the net.

If they can find that winger, you have the top line set with Kopitar and Brodzinski (tentatively, maybe they look at a proven RW in the UFA market instead).

The second line is set with Carter between Pearson and Tofolli.

The third line may be Kempe between Brown and Lewis, and a fourth line centered by either Shore or Dowd between a combo of Clifford, Nolan or Andreoff.

I like the third line, but not too thrilled about the wingers on the fourth line.

Since the Flames traded for Hamonic wonder if the Kings try to sign Stone. Then flip a defenseman for offensive help. Or maybe Kulikov or Smith.

Get NJ to sign Kovy 2 years @6, then have them retain 1M in exchange for Martinez.

Kovy/Kopitar/Gaborik
Pearson/Carter/Toffoli

Muzzin/Doughty
Forbort/LaDue

I don't like that defense. 2nd pair is a guy with barely 2 years experience and a rookie. 3rd pair is gravel who is barely a 2nd year guy and Fantenberg? who is another rookie. So two pairings of 2nd year guys and rookies.

I don't see Kovalchuk playing strong defense. That and I think he's a bit too selfish to fit in on the kings.

Don't we want more selfish players on the Kings? I feel like the past few seasons we've been trying to pass the puck into the net.

Pacific expectations

Oilers
Ducks

Sharks-depends on Thornton/Marleau
Kings-Depends on reaction to Stevens and new winger?
Flames-Probably give them an edge on LA but I don't care for Smith

Canucks
Vegas-Can Fluery play lights out?

I think the best additions LA could have done have been done already. Their coaching additions are great. They still need at least 1 winger though.

"Duchene's agent is seriously unhappy with Sakic's foot-dragging on a deal"

http://www.newsday.com/sports/hocke...-traded-to-calgary-for-draft-picks-1.13761218

Snow had an offer out to the Avalanche with Hamonic and the team’s 2018 first-round pick as part of a package for Matt Duchene while at the same time shopping Hamonic to defense-hungry teams like the Flames and Leafs for an asking price of two first-round picks. Those were two very different paths Snow was staring down.

Avs GM Joe Sakic balked at a Duchene move, as he has for months. The Flames and Leafs balked at Snow’s asking price as Friday night’s first round unfolded, with Toronto reportedly offering a package that included forward James van Riemsdyk and a 2018 first.

But Snow went exclusively with futures to keep that cap space open — the Isles have roughly $9 million in space right now with restricted free agent Calvin de Haan needing a new deal — and keep the Isles’ options open should Duchene not be moved elsewhere.

Two league sources said Pat Brisson, Duchene’s agent (also the agent for John Tavares), is seriously unhappy with Sakic’s foot-dragging on a deal. That could lead to a reduced price tag later on should Snow still be interested.

Well Hamonic has been traded now so that ship has sailed.

Sakic isn't going to get better offers than what the Islanders and Leafs have offered. Nobody is going to give up huge assets for a guy that's going to be a UFA in two years.

Sakic is a terrible GM. The Avalanche are one of the worst teams in the league at every level. Atrocious organization.
