still believe we will pass on brannstrom if he's there at 21.

great skill but size and 2 way play still a concern. i like the kids possession numbers and if you always have the puck, you dont have to play defense i guess. he's an overall great looking player if hes slightly bigger. worry about ability to play against larger nhl players and injuries/durability would be my concern

just not sure if i can pull the trigger.

if kostin is still there i could go with the big russian. realistically, he may be but my gut says he's gone by 21. he's my 2nd choice.

if he's gone, i probably pass on brannstrom and hope like heck someone falls. i think there will be fallers.

my realistic top 3 continues to be. ( all 3 could well be there at 21)

1. andersson- my clear cut top choice.
2. kostin- would love a shot a the big russian power forward.
3. brannstrom- 3rd choice but some reservations. if he's the BPA left, he's my guy.

still absolutely love lias andersson. he's the type of player you win with. he's an impact type pivot. developed 2way game, great skater, dangerous shot, leadership qualities, high motor and high end hockey smarts. he's my guy if he's there.

Is this "Brannstrom can't play defense" narrative purely down to his size?

There are not five defensemen in this draft who currently defend better than Brannstrom.

I wouldn't be shocked if someone popped Brannstrom inside of the top 10.

There should be little concern about his D play (hes an excellent 1 on 1 defender) or his size (he isn't that small.)

So I knew Kostin didn't want to go to Kootenay, but apparently he said he can get out of his deal and play in the AHL next fall. That might stop him from sliding too far down the board. Seems like an Yzerman pick.

Every year Rangers seem to take a high risk high reward fallers. Duclair, Buchenivch, Day.

Any chance who those guys could be this year?

Don't know if this was posted or not, but I figured I'd put this here b/c of Gordie.

He seems really excited to draft in the first round. Maybe Gorton was right and he will run up to the podium when it's our turn :P

I don't know the names of any guys you are describing. In the first round I don't feel like they can take high risk/high reward guy.

I'm excited for tonight. The entry draft is always a fun two day period because of how unpredictable things can be. All the random trades that happen, and all the discussion of things that happen because "X GM was seen at Y team's table talking with Z GM. Trade must be happening" occurs at least 10 times per team.

Will be fun. Good thing I'm home all day tomorrow babysitting some painters in my apartment. So I'll just sit in the living room streaming coverage on my laptop (or TV) and following along on Twitter and here.

nope.

its not that he cant play defense, as i stated, he's actually quite skilled at playing defense. his gaps are great, anticipation, hips, skating, stick work and feel for his position all very good.

its his size relative to the average nhl player and his ability to be effective on a smaller surface with bigger opponents. can he dominate possession against larger men ?

theres only 1 erik karlsson. torey krug is a good comparable but then again, its the 21 st pick.

dunno :dunno:

Hard to say who will "fall", but guys like Ikonen, Heponiemi, Boqvist, Lodnia, Reedy all fit the bill if they fall to late 2nd or further.

Krug, Scandella, Timonen, Ellis, there are some recent examples of 5'9-5'10 defensemen who defend well. Not many, but its the same thing with a center like Rasmussen, how many 6'6 or taller centers are there in the NHL who play big roles? Not many.

Alright so who do we want at 7?

I think Hischier, Patrick, Makar, Valardi, Heiksanen, and Glass or Middleatedt are gone before Rangers pick. That leaves Liljegren, Pettersson, Suzuki, Valimaki, Tippett, and Rasmussen available at 7. I'd be happy with anyone but the last two, but Suzuki or Pettersson would be my pick here.

It's literally impossible for all of those players to be gone, you listed seven players.
