Själin was paired with Westerlund all spring in the U18 national team and carried Westerlund badly defensively, he's really good.

That was the pairing during that tournament that I would take small breaks when they were on the ice because I didn't really care to watch them play.

I'm really liking this Lakatos pick more and more. Surprising we have more of a Czech focus this year. Didn't we hire a new Czech scout?

We reportedly invited Lakatos' coach, Pesan, to development camp. Wonder if he'll be hired as an assistant down in Hartford.

It's funny how we do so much better as the rounds go on.

Lower expectations changes the outlook. Many people were thrilled we got a huge scorer in Christian Thomas at #40. Then other people were thrilled when we traded him years later for Danny Kristo (drafted #56). I bet we had 1000 (or more) posts about them and neither one ended up doing anything.

Westerlund was soooo bad at the five nations, Själin carried him badly. At WJC Westerlund looked better, especially offensively but Själin still saved him defensively.

playing your off side in the minors, juniors, or abroad is completely different than playing it in the NHL.

I just think when it comes to picking this late in a draft if your going to take a chance take it on something we dont have any depth on

Bereglazov played his offside in the KHL. Graves has played on the right since his days in midget. Brendan Smith has played on the right in the NHL. The rest are all RHD, except for Day.

We do have defensive depth on both sides in the prospect pool and will only add to our organizational depth during free agency.

At this point it's BPA all the way.
