It'd be wonderful for you to provide evidence instead of spewing BS? Every draft? I even gave credit for his work in the later rounds. Kreider/Miller/skjei have been good picks in mid-late first round.

2 top 10 picks in 7 years. Mcilrath is a confirmed disaster pick, and the consensus of people who DO KNOW what they're talking about (not you or I or anyone posting on a message board) think Andersson is a reach at 7. So, while we're floating suggestions, I'd suggest you accept the weird reality of whatever you'd call Clark's strategy with a top 10 pick.

I have no way of knowing if Anderson was a reach. If he was a reach usually the talking heads would have said so. Often people are called reaches online just based on mock drafts. Nobody knows who GM's actually plan to take. The kid Buffalo took after us looks like he could be a high ceiling guy but only time will tell. Who are the guys you would have liked us to take above Anderson? For Anderson to be a reach in my opinion there have to be a lot of better guys. If there are only say 1-3 I do not view that as a reach because drafts after the initial top 3 picks are often crap shoots.

Picking a guy that most reputable scouting expert, including NHL central scouting, had ranked between 10-20th at #7 seems to fit the definition

If you had done a slight bit of research, you'd know that after the top 6, pretty much the next 10-15 could have been selected in any order.

But keep talking if it makes you feel better.

We've made some very good draft picks. Kreider, Skjei, and Miller were excellent picks at their spot. Stepan, Fast, Anisimov, Buchnevich, Duclair, Hagelin, Shestyorkin, Huska, Day, Graves in later rounds is good. We've made some WTF picks every now and then, but so has every team.

Clark isn't amazing, but I'd say we've had pretty good drafts under him overall.

Andersson and especially Chytil are fine picks. Once Glass and Petersson were gone, the #7 was a bit of a toss up. Andersson is just as good of a pick as someone like Vilardi or Necas.

In 10 years (Clark didn't draft Anisimov) picking Miller, Buch, Skjei, Hagelin, Kreider, and Fast really isn't that impressive to me. Cool, top 6 tweeners (still very much needed) and bottom 6 players. Is this supposed to be impressive? No team in the league has difficulty drafting the players we champion.

The team's actual evaluation doesn't bother me as much as the philosophy behind everything. Think they can win everything with solid two way play and it's ****ing maddening.

Sjallin is another super young kid that almost was '18 eligible. Typical smart two-way Swede who makes good reads, passes, and can skate well

Lets break that down for a second.

Is a reach is picking a guy before where actual GMs would take him or where scouting reports have them ranked?

Lets say we pick a guy we wanted at #7 but he was ranked #10. Should we pass up on the guy we wanted? I know the obvious answer would be trade down to #10 to get him but what happens if we trade down to #10 and then he gets picked at 9? Would 2-3 spots really be a reach?

Now in regards to the scouting rankings. If he was ranked anywhere from 10-20 how can they be very accurate? That is a huge range.

We are picking 18 year old kids. Some will get better. Some will fail. Dylan was a reach according to many folks but this kids does not appear to be one.

Lastly Gordie does not make these calls alone. We have multiple scouts. They have a group that debates these decisions. This could turn out to be a horrible decision, a solid decision, or a great decision. Nobody here can say for sure because we do not know how a 18 year old kid will mature.
