Would make sense to have him in the AHL. He looked very good in the SHL, got his time with his teammates/comrades being a driving force in Sweden and then in the WJC. Now put him with Chytil, Graves, DeAngelo, Pionk, etc. in the AHL and have his develop the rest of the half-season here. Then he will be ready for sure to break camp with the team next year.

Yes, Rasmussen is the other one in the top 10. Foote the only other from the top 15.

And I agree with the above comment that Pronman ranks skill before other talents, but I agree on that front. I would've had Andersson like 10 spots higher, I also don't agree with Pronman's ranking of the skilled players near the top of the list, but I can't say that I think Pronman is all that far off about Andersson.

He claimed in the comments that he thinks he'll be a 2nd/3rd line tweener, mentioned his lack of skating and skill as reasons why he didn't make the top 50.
Just curious how high did he have Vilardi in those rankings?

Wow thats a bit shocking specially if skating is one of the main issues keeping Lias off the list. I'm not an expert but iirc wasn't skating one of the main issues scouts had with Vilardi

Vilardi can't skate, but he does everything else really well. I had him #4 in my draft rankings. If he learns to skate slightly better, he's Draisaitl, in my opinion.

Comparing Andersson and Vilardi, I think there's a big difference in their offense. Vilardi has a different playmaking gear that Andersson doesn't have, and he's rather skilled with the puck compared to Andersson who can make some plays, but his points come less from high level skill plays with the puck and more from quicker and fewer touches.

Vilardi also has excellent size. He's like 6'2, 6'3 with a big frame.

Where did the whole 'Lias is a poor skater' thing come from anyway? I don't remember reading anything about that pre-draft or immediately following the pick, and from what I've seen of him, he is a good skater who just doesn't have an explosive first step in comparison to NHL players.

I'd love Lias in Hartford so the team would actually be competitive, but let's not waste an ELC this season. Give Lias 9 NHL games late in the season, that's it. Adding a top-6 forward to the Pack would actually make the team competitive.

Having him in Hartford doesn't burn his ELC though... unless you thought when I meant "here" that was referring to the Rangers - it meant here as in the U.S. and not Sweden. Or if you were agreeing with me in a confusing way?

Yes, when I said "here," I meant New York.

He won't eclipse the 40 game mark, so it's a wash for me tbh

If he's on the Rangers full time by the end of the year, it likely means they sell.

it seems andersson in AHL is the preferred plan. having in the training facility post WJC seemed to be a feasibility test. If he can play for Sweden in Feb and produce AHL would be a positive developmental step.
Toss the WJC Silver is the sign he needs to move on and start his professional career.

Sweden->WJC->AHL was the Willie Nylander path wasn’t it?
Yep! However, Nylander had higher SHL numbers and then 32 points in 37 AHL games. Not expecting that type of production from Lias just yet because he won’t have as good of linemates as Nylander did with the Marlies

On the Olympics I come from a time when draft picks/prospects/minor pros represented the US and Canada. I don't have an issue with it. In any case this format might give Lias a chance to play for a team he wouldn't otherwise. Gives him a chance to do another medal toss if the Swedes don't win gold besides.

As far as Pronman--people have opinions. Andersson's had a very good year with Frolunda and looked great in the WJC.

The Rangers might be looking towards having Andersson in Hartford because they're leaning towards being sellers at the deadline and want Andersson available as a call up. And he'd be more available if he's not playing in the SHL playoffs.

Having him play in the AHL also allows him half a year to accustom himself to the NA ice and understand what he needs to work on for the pro game this off-season.

It's just one guy's opinion. Pronman had Petterson 10 and Nylander 24. Andersson put up similar production to them at the WJC's while handling a bigger defensive role, Sweden's WJC coach awarded him player of the tournament over Petterson, and Sweden's Olympic coach seems to prefer Andersson to Petterson, if the rumors are true. So I think there are different ways of analyzing the players relative to each other and in reality, the gap between being the #10 ranked prospect and the # 60 ranked prospect isn't as big as it sounds.

For me, I think a lot of the analysis of Andersson's upside depends on whether you think his production is the result of him being surrounded by talented players or the result of subtle, intelligent things he does. Personally, I think the fact that his production relative to his age has been impressive in multiple situations (HV71, Frolunda, 2018 World Juniors, 2017 summer showcase) offers reason to believe that his production is due to his play and not the players around him, but I'd admit that he didn't look great in small samples at Traverse City and Rangers training camp.
