I doubt it. Carter has probably 3-4 productive years left, if that.

An expansion team really needs to get a player out of the entry draft that is a viable asset in the NHL for 10-12 years.

And they've got a tough job since most of the younger exposed players will be mid-20s anyway due to exemptions

Damn costly win today...moves Kings above Carolina and down a slot in the draft.
I was counting on the Black Hawks and such a let down.
Thank God Winnipeg and Philadelphia won....or we would lose another slot and
possibly have Philadelphia vying for our slot. A loss today would have kept Winnipeg and Philly ahead of us, guaranteed...now,
they both have shots at passing us in the draft. Just F !!

We are now in a must lose game tomorrow vs Sux. And Philadelphia plays the Canes.
So, we must lose and the Canes must win. Winnipeg is done for the season and 2 points ahead. If the Kings win, what happens? Both at 87 points. Whats the tie breaker?
I think it should be: Higher slot goes to Los Angeles, because Winnipeg has Laine and Scheifele and the Kings suck on paper more...so pick goes to Kings. But what is the tie breaker?

What a mess and such a costly win....if all goes wrong tomorrow - Kings win and Philly wins, this win today may cost the Kings 3-4 draft slots. F !!!!!!!!!!! The difference between pick 10 and 14 is a lot.

With Spencer Watson and Moverare being on the Steelheads I believe our scouts have seen a lot of Tippett and Hague. I'd look to one of them getting picked .

I was thinking that too...and if the Kings win today and Philly wins, we may be picking 14 and then I bet Poehling may be a target. Big center with skill that played for St Cloud State with King draftee Mike Eyssimont...so they have seen him a lot and center is the Kings' weakest spot. They like the program at St Cloud.
If the Kings lose today, have a draft position of 10 or 11 and may have a shot at Necas, Glass or even Rasmussen. Not sure if Tippett will fall that far.

While selling off our assets and starting over may be the most logical option, it is not likely to be chosen. (What are the chances of getting another Kopitar (2005), Quick (2005), and Doughty (2008) in the same 5-year window? Plus having a Carter (2003) on a long-term reasonable cap hit?) So, moving on to the second-best option, we have to determine what is our identity now, what holes do we actually have vs. system fit issues, and if, like you suggest, we can adjust sufficiently enough with the addition of a couple of players who fill the holes in the roster.

I hate the idea of trading away another first or trading down to get more picks, but if this draft is that weak, it has to be examined. I'd have to go back and look at past weak drafts that are comparable to get an idea.

KP, thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out.

PJ, I understand the reservations people have about a rebuild. I think you have to weigh a rebuild against the probability of the players you mentioned getting measurably better.

Their contracts are not going to allow Lombardi to get them the kind of help they need to contend again. Soon Doughty will be up for renewal. Based on what Kopitar did, he won't be taking less than $10M a season. They can buy out Gaborik, but how much does it really help?

This draft is so weak,

It basically doesn't matter if you're picking 4th or 15th, in the first round.

Drew Doughty will ask to be the highest paid player in the NHL, and he should.

Kings are screwed.

If this truly is the case, and it probably is the case, I think Dean should be planning accordingly now.

Nothing wrong with Dean sitting down with Drew Doughty this summer to find out whether or not the two are in agreement on the direction the organization must take going forward.

ROW and then head-to-head.

Right now, the Kings and Jets are tied at 37 ROW, lets say the Kings beat the Ducks in a SO, it's tied on points and ROW, so they go to head-to-head and the Kings win 3-2 (points) they take away the points earned in the first home game when they are uneven.

Here is pretty much every scenario played out and what lottery slot they get.

Kings L (regulation) + Carolina OTL - 10th
Kings OTL + Carolina W (any fashion) - 10th
Kings OTL + Flyers W (regulation) - 11th
Kings OTL + Carolina OTL - 11th
Kings L (regulation) + Carolina L (regulation) - 11th
Kings W (any fashion) + Flyers W (regulation) - 12th
Kings W (any fashion) + Flyers OTL - 12th
Kings W (any fashion) + Carolina W (regulation) - 13th

So pick will be 11th(Vegas cannot pick lower than 6th overall) or lower with small odds for first three picks(lottery).

I am sure that conversation will take place.

Honestly, I think Doughty is going to UFA or traded. Doughty has Two Cups and a Norris. Doughty will demand he be the highest paid player, and he is the type of player, you pay that for.

The Kings won't be able to afford it currently, without gutting the roster.

If I was Doughty, I would opt for UFA.

Teams would line-up to make Drew the Highest paid player in the league.

Also I could pick a team like Toronto, with a good young developing core.

No, it can be 10th if they lose in regulation and Carolina gets a point or Carolina wins and the Kings OTL.

Vegas will have the same odds as third worst team and cannot pick lower than six. That means 11 place at the draft, if the Kings finish 10. Vegas will also pick third in all other rounds.

I got that. I hope for one of the first three pick, because NHL is trying to help us. Just imagine uproar on this boards.:naughty:

The melt down on the main boards would be epic.

Odds are slim, but it would be awesome.

Thank God!! The 10th pick is ours!
A win would have surely cost the Kings: Glass, Rasmussen and Necas.
None of them will fall to 12. One of them should be available at 10!!

but may also have a shot at Tolvanen now...if they prefer him over those 3.

Well they aren't locked into #10, that is just their likely landing spot. They could slide back as far as #13 but their is only a 0.1% chance of that, the #10 slot also carries a 14.4% chance at a Top 3 selection.

To small
Doesn't play the heavy game
A winger
Not a DL type of player

Who's says DL is going to even be here?

Got to adapt to the way the game is being played now which is speed and skill or get the **** out of town. Start stocking the system with prospects who have these attributes.
