They absolutely are inept. Butcher and Wood aren't an example of anything first of all, they have not proven themselves enough. Bigras and Meloche look solid, but they were from same draft, and might even have been due to the guy who's no longer here. Barrie is a good offensive defenseman but is proving to be not as special as some thought.

That is just not enough over a10-15 year period. Their record of finding good defenseman is absolutely pathetic compared to other organizations.

I'm not directing this toward you, but this "how do we know they didn't try" idea is an excuse I've seen here for the same blueline problem for 15 years. There is too much proof of them not getting it done to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Lets just completely ignore context draft rankings, or the number of different management groups there have been in that time.

They haven't went off the board all that much over the years outside of a couple of occasions. I definitely don't really want to defend their drafting strategy, but inept is just false. If you can say anything it's that they have been simply average, and not worked to make that area a strength for the organization. Looking back over the years at where their picks were in the draft, most of their selections make sense for where players were ranked as a consensus.

Simple fact is you don't know if they had any contact with Myers what so ever, and tacking on not signing him as another one of their failures is very narrow minded.

There is lots of other legit arguments to be made without taking on a mantle of mystical ineptitude, so lets stick to things we know instead of sounding like a casual who makes wild assumptions based on little actual knowledge.

I'm not really defending the organization as much as I am tired of peoples wild assumptions being carried out as gospel.

So many players do that now. Then the hitter gets penalized every time. It's ridiculous. They're trying to prevent injuries by softening up the game, but making all these young players feel safe from getting hit is gonna result in a lot of injuries that never would have happened. They've never really learned to protect themselves.

This is absolutely true and is driving me nuts these days. This, and the drafting age being 18 contribute to a lot of injuries these days I think.

Speaking of, I like that there is at least some rumor of a movement to change the drafting age.

I don't think I ever remember seeing as much hype for an Avs pick from outside sources. Not even Rantanen's outstanding season last year comes close.

I wonder how they'd make that work, you'd essentially have to delay a whole draft year.

Overages maybe, and yeah they'd have to probably cut it to a couple of rounds for one year or something. They could also prepare for it a bit by banning signing draft eligible UFA's for a year or two, not sure how much that would help but if they wanted to even have a draft that year they'd need to get creative lol.

It was a while back I seen an article talking about a movement to do it too. Which also involved trying to work with all parties including the CHL vs AHL thing, and there not being as much resistance to it as you might first assume.

He's playing LW. I'm liking it gives him practice.

Personally unless we draft a big two-way center this year at the top, I think he is a C for us with Landeskog on his wing.

I'm still not one who completely believes we'll be drafting top two for some reason. It's just such a crap shoot with the lottery, even if we are dead last.

It's quite something for me to watch. Normally Avs prospects are just passed over, and knowledge / discussion about the Avs in general is minimal and poor, but the hype machine for Jost appears to be in full swing.

He has the style of play that makes people instant fans. A blue collar work ethic and white collar skill...he's destined to be a fan favourite soon.

I guess we can thank Button for that? Was it him or BM who made the Toews reference first? I've heard them both say it. Also breaking a record the McJesus's name on it will get you some attention lol.

High pick and Canadian makes big difference plus good story and big game player adds to it. High profile in these events is usually double edged sword but he doesn't have the expectations of like Strome, Dubois and Barzal so anything he does is gravy.

Can't complain about feeding the first PP unit ice time when they score three goals. If Barzal gets time with the puck, he's dangerous.

Only suggestion I've seen that makes sense is to move it back 3 months each year. It's already cut off at Sept 15 so move it to July 1, then April 1, etc. there's no way they can just decide one year that no 18 year olds can be drafted and essentially call it an overage draft. I think they should make the goalie draft 19 anyway. And of course the trade off is 19 year olds can go to the AHL.

One thing that sucks about Jost being on the third line is his minutes being cut down in the third it seems. That top line is out there a lot.

Maybe that's just a feeling I'm getting though? Don't have a pretty live updating box score to look at like NHL.tv lol.
