2017 Football Thread III: End of an Eli

Oh my ****ing god. Some of these throws are vintage Eli but this rag-tag group of WRs can't catch for shit.

There was some serious zip on that first drop by Sharp.

What a play from JPP

Nah, I started to notice this year. His 15/16 was a good one. That said, we need a new QB, I really hope they don't screw this up. It's not everyday you have a chance at a top QB like this year.

Then I question how often you watch the team. Eli has been declining for a while, now.

His deep ball accuracy has fallen off a cliff as well:

There was a very noticeable falloff after 2012. Which is about when I started getting annoyed with his play (funnily enough):

Now, PFF is not at all the be-all, end-all of grading. I find their offensive line grades to be dubious at best. However, their grades on Manning jive with everything I've seen myself over the last five years. A very noticeable and distinct decline in play.

Latest on the Giants HC search from Gary Myers.

One other thing: I believe Pat Shurmur, the Vikes OC, is fourth on the Giants list after 1. McDaniels, 1A. Patricia and 1B. O'Brien. Shurmur's 9-23 record as Browns HC in 2011-12 looks pretty darn good right about now. Done great job with Case Keenum with Vikes.

2013 was horrible, do you remember the o line? Gilbride's scheme who relied upon the oline holding the d line for 6s.
He was pretty good 2014/2015. 2016 and 2017 he has a horrible oline, no running game, and this year no WRs.

He is declining, but 2014 and 2015 he was great.

You realize that all of that I posted above takes into account the offensive line, right? He was not good at all in 2014. Not sure how you can even say that. Eli couldn't hit a barn (let alone just the broad side of it) in 2014. He was one of the worst downfield passers in the league.

I'm also not sure why you think he was great in 2015. He had very good traditional stats. But you simply cannot grade a player on that (also why some players have poor stats when they have receivers dropping balls). He was one of the worst players in the entire league when it came to turnover-worthy plays, however. He really only put up decent stats by pure luck. Which is why you see his accuracy take a jump in that season even if it's surrounded by four (two on each side) season of garbage.

That entire season was really a mirage due to pure luck. Sort of like when certain baseball players have a far-too-high BAIBP.

Do you think it's fair to use PFF when it jives with you, but ignore it when it doesn't?

I'm asking this in a general sense, not in an Eli sense.

I only don't use it for OL play. I think they are good at grading every other position, particularly the skill positions.

But that's more due to the OL being so f***ing hard to analyze sometimes.

You know that Mcadoo's scheme does not rely on the deep ball, when you thron that type less it become more difficult to hit it when necessary.
And you are using PFF stats, do you know they consider our oline the 11th best this season ? I don't believe in their methods of analysing the game.

The defense was horrible in 2014,2015 and 2017.
Offense was bad in 2012, horrible in 2013,2016 and 2017.

Lets not blame Eli just because of his recent play. We had a top 10 offense in 2014 and 2015.
