2017 Football Thread III: End of an Eli

Giants have a boatload of work to do.

Only players that I think are guaranteed to be on next year's roster: OBJ, Sheppard, Engram, Gallman, Wing, Pugh, Richburg, Vernon, Tomlinson, Collins.

I don't mind if Gettleman takes a tough love approach with Beckham. Love him but he's gotten away with too much and every play shouldn't be an opera like it is with him.

Beckham has a lot of growing up to do. Seems to make stupid decisions with regularity. I also think there is a big discipline problem on the team generally. Apple, Jackrabbit, and Rodgers-Cromartie all had issues this season as well. You think Belichick would tolerate the nonsense that we've seen from these guys.

Either would be fine. I'd be fine with Allen, Rosen, Darnold, or Jackson. Mayfield or Rudolph in a trade-down with proper due diligence, too. This is the deepest year since 2004 for QBs.
Yeah I think a trade down for Rudolph could work really well. Any of them are already walking into an amazing offensive corps between OBJ, Engram, and Shep. OBJ is obviously a monster, and Engram is gonna be a stud

That was a failure of McAdoo and Reese. Can you imagine if he played for one of the Bills (Parcells/Belichek). No way he pulls kicking net proposals or does the dog celebration.
A random person just stumbles around, never having seen football or Odell and wonders.
What is so bad about a kicking net proposal?

Its crazy how everyone makes something out of nothing with that player. That the Giants can look how they do and OBJ to be even a minor talking point for the new GM is wild.
Put 3-4 more OBJ level talents on this club and you'd all be happy. Its possible that he might have been the only worthwhile watch on this team for the past 4 seasons...Landon Collins last season being a push.

No one is questioning his talent. A person can be both talented and an idiot.

I question him being called an idiot. Eli Apple is an idiot...Plaxico Burress was an idiot. Odell is just temperamental. And when you play on a team with zero players on your level and you're temperamental. That can be difficult.

Lifting your leg and pretending to be a dog peeing is the behavior of an idiot.

bumrusherer-I've been watching football a long time, consistently since the late 80s. It's an emotional game I get it, guys do all kinds of funny celebrations and get excited. The Minnesota Duck Duck Goose thing was funny. JPP doing Gungham Style, Barry Cofeild doing the Taser, these all made me laugh.

ODB is a talented guy. A gamebreaker, He might be one of the three most talented players in the entire league, or world for that matter. But every play with this guy is watching a Shakespearean performance. He makes himself whether it's on purpose or not, the center of attention. You don't need or want idiots like Chris Collinsworth and Joe Buck and these national crews looking for bait, and it's distracting to the team, plus fires up other teams.

I'd rather watch Chad Johnson highlights on Youtube and know it's not my team which is about winning not comedy.

And he talks about being the highest paid player in the league. More distractions and controversy.

Jerry Rice was confident, even cocky some might say, but he was all business. ODB has a chance to do what Rice did, but it's never going to be that way if he remains a one man play.

Understand that you can't just cut Flowers, but I still hope Hart's attitude was above and beyond what Flowers did because it's not a good look if you cut one guy for doing the same thing as another guy you don't cut.

This season can't end soon enough.

There were reports from some of the beat guys that Hart and Flowers are basically inseparable and that Hart nudged Flowers towards a “don’t care” attitude.

Trade down in the first- get two offensive linemen. Use this draft and offseason to completely rebuild the O line.

Cut Marshall, Vereen. Trade Apple.

Give Webb a season and if he doesn't look like a project, go QB in the next draft.

Why can't they just cut him exactly?

I always find it funny that we talk about guys like ODB needing to do some growing up but guys like Evander Kane were being written off as cancers several years back (I believe they’re the same age, or close to it). Or we expect 19 year old kids fresh out of juniors or coming from overseas to be consummate professionals and adults. I don’t watch much NFL anymore, largely because the Giants are just not enjoyable to watch, but when I do tune in, I am always struck by how much more tolerant we are of the NFL players sometimes abhorrent behaviors compared to the expectations we place on kids as young as 18, 19, 20 in the NHL.

I'm wondering what else can possibly go wrong in what little time we have left of the season.

Practice field skirmish?
Rhett Ellison announces ties to ISIS?
Snacks Harrison gets his snack stuck in a broken vending machine at MetLife?

Really don't understand starting Eli every game of a 2 win season.

The streak would've been a defendable reason but Macadoo already flushed that then paid the price.

There's really no reason Webb shouldn't have started the final 4 games or so. Really odd.

I'm not one to like drafting a RB high but holy crap Barkley...
I think he's a franchise-changer, and will be better than Zeke.

I know Jon would've lost his shit, but this is the main reason I wanted Webb started the last four weeks. If Webb shows he can hack it, you grab Barkley at 2 and there's your duo for the next 5-7 years. But, we don't really know shit about Webb, so we'll be grabbing a QB at #2. Not necessarily a bad thing.

The game is changing back to the days of having a good offensive line and running game. Look what Case Keenum has done with that. You gotta be 110% positive you're getting a franchise QB to pass on Barkley.
