Don't think I would have a problem with the Rangers using their first on Yamamoto if that's what it came to. Yeah--he's really small but he seems like a very determined player who has tons of skill and is going to give it his all. He has some fire and we could use some of that too. IMO he'd have a pretty decent chance to be our next Zucc.

Anyone know anything about Jesper Solomon Frisell?

Big 19 y/o d-man at 6'3" (up from 5'10") but needs to grow into his body...currently at 176 pounds. His progression has been pretty steady from J18 and J20 in terms of point totals.

To add to the hype of the Brannstrom train. Here's Redlines take on him.

11. Erik Brännström — HV 71 Jrs. LD
Same size and style as Makar, and rivals him for top d-man honors. Phenomenal skater and puckhandler is really shifty with head feints and generates great speed through the neutral zone. Accelerates with the puck on his stick. On-ice leader is capable of taking over games at times. Excellent puck distributor on the power play, and aggressively gets pucks to the net. Gains the zone easily on the PP, backing defenders in with his dynamic speed. Makes fast decisions. Snaps off wristers from the top of circles that beat goalies clean. Plays a ton of minutes in all situations. Is a one man breakout machine, either skating the puck out against forechecking pressure or zipping long, lead outlets. Breaks the trap with great home run stretch passes through neutral zone. Small and can’t remove bigger forwards from the puck in defensive zone, but uses body positioning and angles intelligently.
Projection: Smallish but smart, competitive #1-2 defenceman.

That's a very good write up on Brännström actually, which means they have seen him plenty, which makes it weird that they go with Karlsson/Letang as comparisons but whatever :D

I'll add to that with this, his gap control is excellent, uses his skating very well defensively to make up for his lack of reach and overall size.

Also, offensively his movement off the puck is insanely good, always open in the OZone and he's very good at getting pucks to the net.

The good thing is he is only 17 right now. Plenty of time to grow and fill out his body.

He's actually pretty stocky and strong, his dad is pretty short though from what i've heard so probably won't grow too much but he should grow some atleast, 5'10/5'11 seems reasonable to expect.

Yup. As long as he maintains his agility as he grows he's going to be a huge asset for whatever team picks him.

Here's ISS on Brannstrom. They rank him at 41.

#41 ERIK BRANNSTROM D HV71(SweJE)

Scouting Report | Draft Wildcard! A modern day two-way defenseman that excels in skating and hockey IQ.Quick skating puck moving defenseman who reads the developing offensive play and brings dangerous weapons from the point. He creates scoring chances off the rush whether gaining the offensive zone and setting up or letting go a quick release on net. Is effective in all three zones and handles the puck well. Is one step ahead of the next play. The issue on Brännström is his size, but he is a young kid and his strength will be developing along the years. His skating ability and hockey sense makes him very hard to play against.

The board isn't going to love ISS's mock draft.

At 21 overall, Brannstrom, Pettersson, Hague, Norris, Yamamoto still on the board. Rangers take Anderson Dolan.

Detroit takes Liljegren at 9th
Isles take Suzuki at 15th.

That would be a sin to pass on BOTH Brannstrom and Yamamoto.

JAD is a good player with a great backstory, but another one that's projected to be an early 2nd rounder. He was Spokane's 2nd leading scorer behind Yamamoto.

I like JAD, not at #21 though, but if we trade back then he's one player i wouldn't mind. I'd much rather grab him then Bowers, Norris or Poehling.

American basher. Sad! :sarcasm:

I'd opt for the US guys because I really like how the USNDT has been lately and we haven't been that great drafting out of the WHL. I'd make the exception for Yamamoto because his skill is ridiculous

Yeah the Dolan name aside, he's a good player but if it's between him and Robert Thomas I take Thomas every time.

Nothing against US or USNDT, i like how they're developing players, i just don't like the upside in those guys.

Is their guide sent out?

Actually don't mind Anderson-Dolan, but with that talent still available, I'd be disappointed. :shakehead
