Interesting interview out of the Devils about the Combine:

https://www.nhl.com/devils/news/ten...-of-amateur-scouting-paul-castron/c-289689520

Q: What do you do during the interviews at the NHL Scouting Combine?

A: We have a big book on each of these kids and we try to leave no stone unturned when it comes to finding out as much as we can about them both on and off the ice. So during the interviews, we have a list of questions we want to ask them about what we found and we want to see how realistic they are with their expectations. A couple kids said they were ready to play in the NHL next year and they're not. It's just not realistic. So it makes you wonder if he knows what it takes to play at this level or even if he knows what kind of player he is. It's nice that they have that confidence and that they want to play in the NHL, but you have to be realistic. It's a pretty hard league to step into. So we have all these notes on a player that we're looking over while they're talking and checking our reports and trying to see if he's what we're looking for and if he can improve our team.

The other tidbit was from their interview with Glass:

For example, Cody Glass (projected as a top-10 selection) had 94 points last year and there's nothing to him (6'2", 170). When he puts on 25 pounds, how much better can he be? He's got a lot of upside. So in his interview I asked him to compare himself to other players in the WHL, and what I really wanted to know is if he thought he was better than Nolan Patrick and he said, "Not today, but maybe in a few years I will be." That's what we need to keep in mind as we put this draft list together. We're not trying to decide who is the better player today, but who's going to be the better player in two, three, five years - once they've filled out physically and developed their skills a little bit more. It's hard.

Conclusion
It’s not unusual for player outside the top round to be ranked far apart on various lists. This isn’t unique to goalies. Outside of Oettinger and DiPietro, none of these players are likely to go in the first round, and those two might drop as well. It depends who is picking and what they think their best use of the pick is.

DiPietro, Ã…hman and even Eriksson Ek may drop due to their height.

This year's goalie crop is interesting, especially given how much height factors into it for a lot of teams.

cool tool. maybe you could make a mock draft contest where people try to get as close as they can to where the prospects go in the draft, points based on how close/far you are from their actual draft position they're taken at.

i did 2 simulations just taking the player the tool gave me.

Makar, Oettinger, Comtois
Makar, Thomas, Comtois

algorithm needs tweaking - Heiskanen went 26th and Glass 24th in one of my simulations.

Recrutes.ca is runny by a draft pool exactly like that.

Reading that glass is playing at 170 lbs. sign me up now if one of the top two defenders are gone.

That kid will be an impact nhler in three years.

That's the opinion I'm coming to as well. For #8, I want:

Heiskanen
Makar
Glass
Trade back

In that order

I only did it once, and the top 7 went as expected (Nico, Nolan, Heiskanen, Makar, Vilardi, Mittelstad, Glass)... hence my trade magic.

Hey... I didn't get presented with any trade offers? I had to go out and work these teams all by myself
Heh, you obviously went with the "trade tools enabled" option, while I went with the "test my discernment" option. If you advance by one pick in that latter option, you get 0-1 proposals to trade up to the current pick, while 0-2 options to trade down at your picks. You can't propose anything though, so if a prospect's sliding, you have to hope the AI's proposal is reasonable if it ever comes.

I only did it once, and the top 7 went as expected (Nico, Nolan, Heiskanen, Makar, Vilardi, Mittelstad, Glass)... hence my trade magic.
That happened in my first try as well but I had no trade offer. My third attempt was just to try something different with Vilardi and then laughing at the convenient trade up and Heiskanen slide there.

Someone posted a very nice video breakdown of Cody glass in the prospect thread. Giggity.

To be honest he reminds me of prospect toews. Not physically developed, but

I've been saying for awhile... if we make the colossal mistake of not addressing our D at #8, then I hope it's because we took Glass...
