Team Canada looks pretty weak this year. Not the typical "it's Canada's to lose" like in the past. Guess it hasn't been like that in a while though aside from the Domi-McDavid year

Might be missing elite talent but they look way deeper than last year.

Compared to Canadian teams from this decade, which teams other than 2015 or the lockout year is this team clearly weaker than?

NVM thought you said better. No team has ever been weaker. But going from teams that had defences like Subban, Petro, Doughty or Tavares and Eberle up front the teams the past couple of years have been weaker no doubt

And what I meant is it hasn't been Canadas tournament to lose as in others have gotten better.

I think this team has a great chance at winning this thing. They're as deep as any team they've iced in the last several years in my opinion. Not a whole lot of star power you could say, but there's a good balance, and they have a great goaltender this year.

To be fair, the Czechs have been weak for some time now and the Finns have a poor team this year with bad goaltending.

These exhibitions won't test the team and show how good they really are - or aren't.

The Finns are the defending gold medalists are they probably weaker this year? Most likely but they are the team that knocked us out last year so not sure I would be down playing them. Either way I'm not even talking about that as much as if you watched the games you would know the team just looks better then last year. They look really fast on the forecheck, quick passes, the defense has looked great and the goaltending has been perfect. Along with a great powerplay and great penalty kill. It's gone basically as well as it could have gone.

Yes, these games were only exhibitions but even in terms of simple structure this team looks much better than last year's team. The players look like they know what they are doing and the lines are rolling pretty well.

Also saw that Perry spoke to the team last night before the game as Anaheim was in town. Have to give the guy credit, arguably no active player has shown more loyalty to Hockey Canada.

Just a question, do you think players are stars before the tournament, or tournaments like this provides the opportunity for a good player to become a star? I look at the players you listed, they are all stars today, but when they played in this tournament did they carry the status of 'STARS'? And so when they don't perform as well as we think, they are now labelled as 'weaker' teams?

And we are not talking about the McDavids, Matthews, and Eichels of the world, they are special players.

Not really one of the strengths of the team most likely.

your answer is ambiguous. I think you meant, not really, most likely one of the team's strengths.

goaltending is indeed one of the team's strengths imo.

just in case there was any confusion in how you worded your post. I found it confusing.

I could have used a comma. On my phone lol

is Canada's goalie the biggest question?

Hart & Ingram are very strong duo. Strenght of Team Canada.

Don't know what is the biggest question for Team Canada, but probably scoring depth, but so far Canada seems to be playing very good 2-way hockey with structure. Coaching, team, hard and gritty play together with great 2-way hockey and goaltending - that's what could make this team unbeatable. It will be pain in the ass to face Stephens, Cirelli, Gauthier, Roy, Joseph or Dubois shift after shift.

All of them are very gritty and tough players to play against who can make spectacular all-around plays. + strong and huge 2-way defense Chabot, Myers, Juulsen, Lauzon.

Yes, Jost could be back next year, too.

there are always a handful of players that could come back, we have 5 from last year and 9 of this years team can come back next year.

it's just a little noteworthy that we have potentially the best goalie in the tournament and he's only 18 so he can come back again. Doesn't happen all that often.

With McDavid, Eichel, Marner and Hanifan doing well in the NHL, I can imagine Dylan Strome has even extra to prove this year. Being the captain and having the entire nation (and world) watching I expect him to give it his all.

There is no way he can be content knowing he is not in the NHL when all those drafted around him are already making big contributions to their team. The pride of an athlete is always really strong, and he knows this is his moment to shine.
As a Coyote fan, can tell you the WJC was/is a key driver in returning Strome to Erie. Hoping for a very similar experience to that of Max Domi.

So excited to have so many TBL players in the tournament. Ingram, Cirelli, Stephens, Joseph, and Raddysh. 4 of them turning Pro next year ... Yzerman stacking two-way grit players with Drouin/Kuch/Point cementing the top 9 skill positions up on the big boy club.

It would appear that some at Hockey Canada still consider Al Murray to be Hockey Canada's chief scout.

which is ok by me, as he is the best scout and talent evaluator in the biz. imo.
