I don't know how Canada will cope without little Joe Hicketts taking two minute shifts. :sarcasm:

i would argue that the 2011 and 2014 teams were worse on paper. Quite possibly last years team as well.

Yes, the 2014 team in particular is definitely worse from a talent perspective. I'm not yet sure how this team will perform, but there is a lot of underselling of talent here.

Strome is not the guy you want to be a leader IMO. Most talented? Sure. But I just don't see his game as a captains game.

Theo Fleury was once the captain of a gold medal team for Canada, and it's hard to think of a player less suited to such a role. Stephens is the traditional captain type, but really it isn't a big deal who has the letters.

They were. 2014 didn't have the depth that this team does, instead of Leier or Anderson who weren't skilled enough to contribute offensively, I think we have much better offensive players in Roy, Stephens, Cirelli, McLeod. I like the bottom of the 2017 line-up than Leier, Anderson, Rychel, Laughton.

Rychel was a productive junior player and 19OA draft pick, but agreed on the other guys...not to mention Gauthier, who was abysmal offensively in 2014. The thing is, though, we have these sorts of guys on the team pretty much every year. In 3 or 4 years time we'll look back on a few of these guys and wonder what the h*** the coaching staff was thinking picking some of them.

I don't think who is captain is that important this year, just get a system going, play a team game and hound the puck.

Only way this group is gonna win.

After the first game I would like to see a few minor changes in the lines and see how it goes.

Pierre Luc Dubois - Dylan Strome - Tyler Raddysh (Strome+Raddysh chemistry + elite talent)
Tyson Jost - Matthew Barzal - Blake Speers (Jost+Barzal would be dominant)
Dillon Dube - Nick Roy - Frederik Gauthier (Big boys+high energy skilled player)
Mathieu Joseph - Daniel Cirelli - Mitchell Stephens (Hard working energy line)
Michael McLeod

Thomas Chabot - Phillipe Myers (Was great in game 1)
Jeremy Lauzon - Noah Juulsen (Shutdown pair)
Kale Clague - Dante Fabbro (Solid all around)
Jake Bean

Are you sure your ideal lineup has Frederik Gauthier in it? :sarcasm:

I really like Stephens. He makes a lot of great, simple plays through smarts and hard work. Also really driven home last night that Barzal is a much more dynamic player than Strome. Looking forward to seeing how this team improves over the next two exhibitions.

I like this lineup!

Also, the guy above me beat me to the Gauthier joke.

Strome and Dubois have to be better IMO.

I thought Strome was good, he generated lots of offensive chances and looked deadly on the PP.

I'm generally hard on Strome but I thought he played well last night. Dubois definitely needs to be better, but we have 2 more warm up games to go.

I just thought he tried to force plays that were not there in favour of good open opportunities a couple of times.

Dubois needs to engage more while staying out of the box

Yeah, he was a little too cute at times, but overall I thought he controlled the pace when he was on the ice. I doubt they track Corsi here, but his possession numbers would have been excellent.

I want to see Dubois out there hitting like Gauthier was, throw his weight around and not take dumb penalties.

Glad there's no Leafs/Canucks prospects on Team Canada maybe we can have some rational discussion this year, without the constant bickering about Marner/Virtanen.

Marner/Virtanen? I thought all the bickering last year was about Dermott? :sarcasm:

Explaining why Canada changed its lines slightly today (Speers and Stephens trading spots), Ducharme said that the coaches liked how the other two lines performed and "it's time to try things". By trying things, Ducharme has at least proven to be better than Lowry. I feel more confident.

Just you wait.

Someone will ***** about a teams prospect and a fan will take offense to it.

Goalies are gonna have to be the Heros this year, still don't think it will be enough. Keeping Bean, cutting Steel, Wagner and Howden bad choices.

Maybe one day instead of picking the team from a small pool started when these kids are 15-16 they will just look at the top under 20 scorers from each league and pick from there.

Sorry to say this because it burns me up inside but the other countries are laughing at our selection process which entails not taking the best players.
