When is the last day to replace speers? seems this guy is still hurt!

Speers is NO Mcdavid, he can easily be replaced

Rosters don't get Submitted until Christmas Day, and even then if someone is hurt you can not submit their name, leaving the spot open to either add them later, or add someone else once the situation gets figured out.

Indeed, I don't like seeing this. However, on a positive note, Ducharme doesn't seem to be afraid to mix and match his lines at these practices and scrimmages. I personally prefer this flexible approach to Lowry's stubbornness last year when, for example, he kepth Strome + Marner together for the camp and first part of the tournament even when it obviously wasn't working out.

Why do we even have this guy if he's hurt?
Not playing today doesn't technically mean hurt. And if he is hurt, it doesn't technically mean he's nursing the injury that gave him trouble before.

The contrarian in me brings those considerations up, while the rest of me is screaming "Why do we even have this guy if he's hurt?!"

At the very least why make final cuts if you aren't 100% certain he is fit and ready to go.

They can always bring one of the cuts back if he wasn't ready to go. The fact that they made the cuts makes me believe they do think he's pretty much 100% but want to give him a couple extra days as a precaution.

I'm laughing too. Why take a guy who isn't 100% healthy? Sitting a game out isn't a good sign numb nuts. You just sat out 20 games and you're tired? Why is a player whos "body" might not be in the best of shape on this team?

Because in 2 weeks his body will be 100% just like NHL'ers after camp. You do realize Blake Speers made the Devils as a 3rd round pick...no glamour of the high 1st round pick. He is most likely a better pro winger than anyone Canada has on the right side at the moment. High end hockey sense at both ends of the ice.

In previous years didn't the coaching staff wait until a few additional exhibition games were played before making the final cuts? The team seems to have been finalized earlier than typical this year.

This allows the team to work on special teams and chemistry instead of evaluating the players. While you may make a mistake on a player your team should be better prepared to start the tournament.

Much earlier. Last year the final cuts came Dec 20th after the second exhibition game. Canada likes to try out different things. Contrary to what Mr. Writer thinks, Hockey Canada actually does learn from previous mistakes, and continues to fine tune the way they operate.

i remember Mcdavid when coming back from his hand injury, it took him a while to get his motor started during the wjc...it took him a few games i beleive, if i remember correctly....and that was mcdavid ...

anyways i really hope HC knows what they are doing...the 2015 team was an anomaly and had nothing to do with jankowski or salmond, these guys overstayed their visa and its time to go...

I really want a bigger role for Hunter or someone else...

Yes, I agree. In terms of "star" players, Strome (third pick in highly touted draft in d + 2 year) compares very favourably with anyone from the Canadian teams this decade other than 2013 (Mugent - Hopkins) and 2015 (just returned from injury McDavid). 2011 the star was Schenn. 2012 the star was... good luck finding one. 2014 the star was Drouin one year after the draft. 2016 the star was the alleged chemistry between Marner and... Strome. There is always a bit of revision with regard to how strong Canadian teams have been in the past. Generally, any player significantly better than the best players on this Canadian team (Strome, Barzal, Chabot) are in the NHL, so of course Canada can't use them.

They lost the first game and won the second game against CIS last year.

Ya, I still remain doubtful. If I had to put my money on who'll have the better tournament, my cash is on Jost. I wouldn't waste .25 cents betting on Strome. But as always, I hope to be proven wrong and Strome wins tourney best forward.

Forwards are pretty underwhelming for Canada standards but defense and goaltending could win it all for Canada this year. Coaching can be only better, I hope. Really lot of key players missing for Canada or USA this year, too bad. Just imagine these 2 power houses playing with best possible rosters. It would be incredible for WJC hockey.
