Rumor posted by a Brandon fan in the Patrick thread saying he could be out for the WJC (if the timeline is to be believed). That combined with the missing NHLers could be a massive blow. Makes us really need Strome to be loaned.

Yeah. This is the post:

Contradicting news in Bdn this week. On the positive side, Nolan is back in Brandon. On the negative side, someone loosely connected with someone who knows Nolan well says he is likely out until Feb.
so call this post a big fat RUMOUR ALERT, just thought I'd pass along the gossip at the rink!

I'm too lazy to post links, but Bob McKenzie has repeated the obvious a couple of times - that Marner and Konecny aren't in the cards. He doesn't think Chychrun is either. I heard him say briefly (i forget which affiliate) that he didn't think Crouse would go either if he was still in AZ.

Strome seems the obvious player to get sent given he can't get into games in AZ.

I'm not informed enough to know about the likely roster, but from what I've seen from McLeod as a Devils fan, he seems like he could be a perfect 3/4C in a tournament like this.

I'm sure there's centers more skilled than him available, but having his speed and work ethic anchoring one of your bottom lines would be huge. You'd have your skilled forwards on your top couple lines and then you send out McLeod and his blistering speed. Would be a nightmare for teams to defend.

If McLeod weren't on the team, I'd be very surprised. Of course I've been wrong before, but still...

He's a valid contender, but a lot of it will depend on who is available. Barzal is going to take one of the centre spots. Stephens will likely get his defensive line centre spot back. If Strome is available then he will as well, which would be three spots gone already. Then you have the Patrick situation (presumably he is also ahead of McLeod, health permitting) to consider. For the last couple of spots you have Steel having a big year thus far, and Nicolas Roy (who has played the fourth line centre spot for Canada before) is having a big year as well. As you suggest, it will depend on what the coaches want.

I'm curious about Taylor Raddysh. He wasn't a big name to me at all, but he has a ton of points this year and seemed to play well in the super series. For anyone who knows about him or follows the OHL, is he a viable WJC player for Canada?

I don't see three clearly better teams at this point.

You think the team is not bad because you know the Canadian players better than the European teams, many of their players are underrated and we clearly lack high end talent. USA for sure has a better forward group, Sweden has a balanced roster which shouldl be stronger than last year, and the Russian super series team composed mostly of their bottom 6 forwards and few defenceman is giving us trouble in the Superseries, when they add their top players and goalie they will be strong. Finland also has an incredible defence this year full of top 4 Dman in the FEL and also an unpredictable forward group.

So, which three teams are clearly better than Canada's potential team?

Once again, the only thing that can put Patrick's spot in danger is the injury. I can imagine Hockey Canada being in touch with that, so they perahps know more then we do at this point because I'm pretty sure they want him a lot. I'm also pretty sure that they are going to give him as many opportunities to make the team as possible - ie not inviting him to the camp if he's healthy enough to play the WHL is out of the question imo. If possible, he will get a chance at the camp, and things will sort themselves out from there. The big question is - when is he going to be back? From that point of view, his position on the team is definitely in danger because the healing process seems to be taking much longer than expected.

Hows this look guys?

Dubois - Barzal - Cirelli
Benson - McCleod - Joseph
Harkins - Steel - Merkley
Wagner - Stephens - Mascherin
Smith

Chabot - Juulsen
Chychrun - Vande Sompel
Clague - Lauzon
Bean

Hart
Cormier
Ingram

I doubt TC snubs Gauthier.

I think Nic Roy and Sam Girard are missing too.

Q players are always getting underrated and snubbed year after year over OHL players and players from the dub but they usually offer hard working good skating players, just need to choose them.

Marner with a terrific game last night...going to miss him this year. dude has a legit shot at RoY.

just a thought, but perhaps Matthews should have opted to play last year in the CHL.

With players like Marner and Matthews in the NHL, this year would be the best that I can remember to see Canada vs USA with all junior aged players involved. Both teams are going to be missing some exception players for the junior level.

Maybe one of these years my dream of a Canada v USA Junior Summit Series with all eligible players participating will indeed happen...

I'll continue to push for it.

I think you are going to get your wish, think it is only a matter of time before they do it.

Both federations will make a lot of money on it.

The question is if the NHL will be involved. If there is no NHL involvement, then legitimate NHLers (think McDavid this summer or Ekblad last summer) are almost certainly not going to be there. Similar to the 2007 and 2012 events with Russia. If no NHL, then the event would be missing the very best players. The good thing is that both the NHL and the federations could be sold on this pretty easily I imagine, and it would make money if they played the games in Canada.

Roy was really bad on faceoffs last night.
I thought that was his strong suit?
He will have to scratch it out for a center spot on the WJC team unless he can play wing
Dubois was great. Good for him.

That is probably the most realistic team I've seen thus far, other than Chychrun and maybe Vande Sompel. I'll be quite surprised if the real team ends up looking significantly different.

Another thing I am on board for. Would of been better than a lot of aspects of the World Cup of Hockey. Maybe do it once every two years.

I don't think you would need the junior aged nhl players for it to be a success.I think any best of 7 junior series between those two would sell like crazy in Canada.

I think we are going to see it in the not too distant future.

It'll sell regardless. Without the absolute best though it isn't much different than those Russian events.
