Haha why?

Word might get around that these guys are taking less than they're worth.

Ruhwedel was adequately compensated for his meagre contributions to the almighty Penguins, for whom it is an honor to play even at league minimum.

Maybe sign Derek Ryan to be the 4C? Although, considering how cheap he will be, id except CAR to re-sign him.

Galchenyuk for Maatta +?

Sign Daley + ?

The problem with this is Daley can't replace Maatta. Daley is a right defenseman who really struggles on the left side. Chicago acquired Rob Scuderi from us because Daley was THAT bad on the left side.

But I am down for the first part. Maatta and Hagelin for Galchenyuk. Not sure they can afford it, cap-wise.

Unless the Habs' scouts are high on Sundqvist, which I doubt. Rowney's a throw-in, not what they need.

I keep hearing people say we would need two defensemen if we traded Maatta. I think we would only need one.

Letang, Schultz and Ruhwedel are your right D.

Dumoulin, Cole, ??? and Pouliot are your left D.

Trade Maatta and Hagelin for Galchenyuk, then we can go shopping for a LD. There are tons available.

Why does Montreal want to move the kid?

Well, the Canadiens don't like him. He likes to party. He likes to celebrate goals. When the Habs don't like you, it's over. It is not as bad as Subban, but he is the next one to get shown the door.

Under Claude Julien, he can't play center. So, I imagine they'd rather not negotiate an RFA deal with him as a winger and instead deal him for what they need right now...either a two-way C better than Danault or Plekanec, or a LD better than David Schlemko to play with Weber.

I think Bergevin would have a lot of interest in Maatta.

We don't have the cap space, but it'd be hilarious to trade for Galchenyuk and then convince Radulov to sign here on the cheap.

But I doubt MTL moves Galchenyuk without assurances that Radulov is staying there.

The more I think about it, maybe management likes the idea of Malkin mentoring Galchenyuk and in the process, becoming a more complete 200 foot player.

I was thinking the same thing. Could help both teams...not that HF will acknowledge that Maatta is playing like anything but a 37 year old Scuderi.

For anyone interested in him.

Good luck with that

An interesting thought popped into my head on the way home from work. How much would the Penguins have to offer Shattenkirk on a 1 year deal for him to come to Pittsburgh? And if he would be willing to do say $6 million for 1 year, would you bring him in?

I would offer it on a two year deal. After that is when all the raises come due.

Part of me wants Pouliot to make the team and stick just so we can have the Pooh-Ruh pairing.

What's wrong with Rowney (or Sunny if he looks a fit) at 4C? That's not a need we have. 3C yes, but we have no need for extra 4th liners.

I could see that, but I'd stick with 1 just for safety. I'd rather have him on a 1 year deal for more money, because I don't think the cap should be an issue for the Penguins next year at all.

I'm just really not sure what the Penguins do with all of this cap space. They don't have that many tradeable assets, at least the assets that other teams would want. Free agency sucks, but there are a couple of good players there. Why not throw a bunch of money at a guy like Shattenkirk for 1 year to see what happens? Just roll over your cap space until next summer to see if free agency is any better then.

On Galchenyuk, I don't think he's the type of center the Penguins should be looking at. Granted, I'd be completely happy with getting him if he gets traded here, but another offensive center isn't who I'd target to be the 3C.

Sign rfa's. Grab a 3C and some more D. Let sunny play 4C

this. we got to where we are by trusting our youth and development program. it's been bang on.

to quote the simpsons, the regular season is long and pointless. let Sunny have 50+ games with hard minutes and see how he does. then re-assess our C depth at the TDL when we'll have even more cap space.

Ruh stays for less than 300k than what ZAR was signed for who hasn't even played for the pens yet. Nice discount. Wants to be on a winner. Those are the types of guys you want around.

He also knows we are lacking depth on D and will likely have injuries. He will get playing time again. Do well these 2 years and cash in somewhere. Compete for another cup in the meantime

Don't know why we'd be interested in Galchenyuk. Need a 2-way 3C who's good on faceoffs and can mesh with Kessel. And that's all we need at F.

wants to be a winner, and I'm sure he wants a 1-way deal. It would be hard for him to pass up 1.3 million dollars.

Yeah on the surface it doesn't make sense. But I'll take Galchenyuk over Maatta all day if that's the basis of the deal and there's no other move to be made.

I'd want something else coming back with Gally. A top 4 dman and a top 6 capable wing with decent contracts for a struggling RFA C...too much from our end unless our goal is to clear space. If they still had Beaulieu, that would have been something to consider as well. As is, I'd want more from Montreal.

For anyone interested in him.

He's not getting that. No way. Unless Vegas makes that push for him. Course, that's his ask. He's want to cash in while he still can and I can't say I blame the guy. I just highly doubt a team does it. At best for him, a standard 6x6. Even then I wouldn't do that. For us it would have to be a 1-2yr deal worth 4-5mil. Even THEN...I still don't think I do it. Too much of a luxury and not a need. We'd be dangerous though if he repeated his recent playoff performance.

ZAR is on a two-way ELC. In the AHL he gets $70,000/year. If he gets called up, he's paid the $925k rate per game he plays which is $11,280. Ruhwedel gets his $650k pace regardless. Ask Ruds and ZAR which one they'd rather have...
