You think the Kings could really get Brayden Point + for Jake Muzzin? I love that deal from a Kings perspective, but TB would really have to be desperate for a veteran defenseman to make that deal. If Blake could pull something like this off it would be a huge feather in his cap, and I would be all for it.
I don’t think so. Point isn’t on the table. Guessing they’d have McD by now if he was.

Could they pull it off sure..lol.
I think it would be hard but as I've said before, Muzzin would make their defense '12 and '14 Kings good.. and at $4 mill over the next 3 season thats a bargain... But as i replied to another member, those are the types of players the Kings need and should target...

Yeah, I think that'd be a great deal for both sides although it'd leave the Kings defense really thin going forward. Too expensive to sign a free agent d-man and there's no one in the pipeline that can fill his role. But a young center that can score, that's always very valuable.

Maybe this is the difference between me and most fans. I don't want the Kings to be like most teams which are also-rans year after year.

I truly enjoyed the rebuilding years leading to contention, because for the first time the Kings had a GM with a plan and Lombardi stuck to it.

The Kings are much more likely to gain more of my financial support if they show me they are actively working a legit plan to get back into contention. I won't lend much financial support to this method of operation.

Much easier to enjoy the rebuilding years now since it eventually went somewhere, unlike most rebuilding efforts around the league. It came this close to not working. At least not in 2012, which may have bled into 2013 and 2014. If they had gotten to today without getting out of the 1st or 2nd round, would you like the rebuilding years as much? Lombardi took a giant gamble with Richards, the first time. A young team that wasn't able to get out of the 1st round yet, trades Schenn and Simmonds? Not even at the deadline, after the team has proven it was contending, but prior to a season starting. Lombardi believed in the roster enough to do that, but they were in the process of letting him down, which almost cost him his job. They would go on to let him down two other times, which actually did cost him his job.

Lombardi had a plan, but Penner/Richards could've become Sekera/Lucic before Sekera/Lucic was a thing. It was creeping toward Schenn, Simmonds, and a 1st for nothing.

This is a real stretch. Richards and Lucic comparison? Not even close Richards gave the Kings 2 great playoff performances in 2012 and 2013, and gutted out an adequate playoff performance in 2014. What did Lucic do for the Kings in the playoffs?

If Lombardi doesn't manage to get Carter, what do the Kings do in the 2012 playoffs? Do they win the Cup? Do they get out of the 1st round?

I'm saying things would've inched that way for sure. Richards had 18 goals and 44 points that year. Schenn and Simmonds were contributing to the Flyers, especially in the playoffs, and were 4 and 6 years younger. Are you saying there isn't a path for the Richards deal to be worse for the franchise than the Kopitar contract if they don't get lucky with Carter not wanting to be in Columbus? You're all about value. Anything short of a Cup and the Richards trade is a disaster, even more so with the way he broke down physically.

But Lombardi did manage to get Carter, because the Kings were deep in assets and could afford to make the trade.

I am all about the Kings being legit contenders. Winning a championship is never easy. The Kings did it twice and it's a great accomplishment. When a team isn't a legit contender they should be looking for the value in every personnel decision and how it impacts the future.

The Richards trade was a huge success. Without Richards setting the tone in the first round against Vancouver in 2012, the Kings probably don't win their first Stanley Cup.

Very happy with Phaneuf's game so far. You can feel his presence on the bench and on the ice. He really looks and acts like a leader. He is also calm in the defensive zone, which is a huge relief after having a bunch of jittery young defensemen in our lineup. Although he is not as mobile as a Muzzin, Martinez etc., he is very good at getting the puck out of the D-zone with great first passes that connect with the forwards. He reminds me a lot of Mitchell. I hope he continues this way.

Kings need a find a way at the deadline to deal some bottom 6 guys for some youth or speed preferably at LW. One of Clifford, Andreoff, and Thompson can be moved.

Alex I-Kopitar-Brown
Toffoli-Carter-Pearson
???-Mitchell-Lewis
Mersch/Andreoff-Amadio/Thompson-Brodz

When Carter comes back would like to see Kempe between Amadio and Brodzinski, 3rd or 4th line, then you can roll with Lewis, Mitchell and Thompson and spell in Andreoff and Mersch etc...

Those players aren't going to generate much interest.

Whoops forgot my favorite new player Kempe.

Either way one of those slower tougher guys has to go to make room for a younger of faster player. Thompson looks slow as hell.

He got Carter because the Kings were deep in assets, could afford to make the trade, and Carter didn't want to be in Columbus. The Jackets took a loss in relation to what the gave up to get Carter just a few months earlier.

It ended up as a huge success, yes. It was also a huge risk. A risk worth taking, but still a risk. Were the Kings one player away when they made the Richards deal? Not on the ice by what we were seeing. They were a coach away. Another top 6 guy away, since they had no depth to cover one injury up front. Not to mention another risk taken in Penner, who was largely ineffective in the 90 games he played in before the 2012 playoffs. Another one or two bottom 6 guys away. Another top 4 defenseman away. Hardly a ready man contender that you without doubt go all in on.

Kings with Scouts at the Pittsburgh/Columbus and Edmonton/Colorado games today.

Heavy Pittsburgh scouting continues.

Boone Jenner, Conor Sheary, Patrick Maroon, and maybe Letestu all interest me from these teams...

I wonder if we could see a Pearson + for Landeskog deal...

We've been linked to Landeskog and Barrie in the past, Sheary's name keeps coming up. Interesting stuff for sure.
Landeskog sure but with avs one point back of us i highly doubt they trade him Barrie that disappears with Dions arrival. The only person that said Sheary to the kings is the mayor and we all no his record at predicting trades even he had a ? mark after it

Oh, I'm not speaking to the validity of any rumors, just saying that's the only smoke I've seen or heard, and that we continually have scouts at those games in particular is interesting.

I think there are others on both teams that would be more fitting what we are after Sheary is 5 8 seriously don't see him working out in la No way he produces without Crosby at that pace. who does he replace ?
