Two younger guys for an older guy that will be a UFA next year? That seems to be what people don't want to see happen.

Simmonds is Doughty's friend though. Should they do anything to make him happy even though he's going to leave? Instead of the FOG's we get the FOD's?
Wayne got the unfortunate moniker of Cocaine Wayne in a lot of circles in Hermosa Beach. I think that if it were true, which I have no first hand knowledge of, was part that led to him being traded.

They kept him around too long either way to sell more tickets. Summer of 95 should've been the latest. They signed Quick, Brown, and Kopitar. All mistakes. If they sign Doughty, it's not going to work.

Move Doughty at the draft, and then anyone else with value as soon as you can. Ride out the retirement contracts of Brown, Quick, and Kopitar. Get some high picks. Then 6 years from now, when all the Cup guys are gone, you hopefully have your new foundation in place.

I wouldn't just get high picks.Need actual young NHL skilled players and prospects as well.

The two younger guys are only 3 years younger. Simmonds, in theory, can be re-signed for not much more than his current cap hit. Toffoli doesn't seem to be getting any better. And while I like Forbort, nobody else seems to want him in the lineup. And you gain some cap space. Would Doughty sign for less with his friend also signed? Probably not, but just fantasizing.

I'm sure most of you may remember this regrettable trade...

Shouldn't have even moved McSorley in the first place, then to get him back, they end up having to trade more than what they originally obtained from Pittsburgh.

Then again, this is the time when the team was horribly managed and McNall had no cash, but none of this was public information until later.

Knowing what we know about Lombardi, still not sure he doesn't take Doughty at #1 anyways, or trade down to #2 and get an extra pick from TB.

In fact the first time Dean did the “Breakfast with the GM” he had charts of our organization depth with lots of good young forwards and no defense at all. After showing the charts he asked “you still want me to draft Stamkos?” At that moment I knew we would have Drew.

Not sure Simmonds would want to stay with the sinking, or sunken ship either. Trade Toffoli today, but give me a younger piece.

Yeah. Matched the offer sheet from St.Louis, traded him to Pittsburgh, then traded back for him, and lose Sandstrom, all within like 8 months or whatever. That's a lot of action to ultimately trade Sandstrom for Paek.

What annoyed me most about that was the Kings weren't necessarily rich with depth up front after giving away Corey Millen in the off-season, plus Dave Taylor had also retired, so they turn around and trade two forwards for two defensemen, one of whom would barely even appear in any games.

Trading Paul Coffey, Jim Hiller and Sylvain Couturier for Jimmy Carson, Gary Shuchuk and Marc Potvin was a disaster in itself. Then they deal Jimmy Carson for Dixon Ward and Marc Potvin for Doug Houda. So you trade a Hall-of-Fame defenseman, who would win another Norris Trophy after he is sent to Detroit, and the net result of that move is Gary Shuchuk, Dixon Ward and Doug Houda.

Moving Sandstrom forced the team to use John Druce as a top six forward, and they had to rush Robert Lang because of the hole that was left by the departure of Jimmy Carson, and Kevin Todd was brought in to fill the void left by Corey Millen. But hey, Barry Melrose got his wish of getting tougher and he brought in a guy like Phil Crowe to be the resident punching bag.

This was the start of the worst era of Kings hockey, where they had absolutely no future and were going nowhere. Now imagine if they traded Drew Doughty for a player who is a shell of his former self.

Your dreaming here. He signed a team friendly deal with the Flyers. He will get paid on this next contract and his cap hit will be higher by a good amount. We can’t keep signing 30 year olds to long term big money contracts.

If you trade Toffoli, do it for two young forwards who can jump in and contribute. Not suggesting Chicago would do it, but an example of this would be getting a DeBrincat and Hartman for Toffoli. Or Buchnevich and Jesper Fast from New York, two bodies to fill holes up front versus one.

I agree with your assessment..
When looking at how this team has performed I can't help but think that the reason guys like Kopitar, Doughty and the other vets go through productivity slumps is a direct result of the secondary pieces/scorers/defenders not contributing enough/not being consistent enough. This results in opposing teams being able to neutralize our impact players and rendering our team ineffective...

Guess what i'm really trying to say is that we are not contending, we are getting older and we should move some of our assets... The questions is, what does Blake and the FO really think of the roster?? do they replace guys like Amart, Toffoli, Carter and get younger pieces that are NHL ready or already in the NHL... or, do they assume that we can sign a key piece in the offseason and return to some type of glory...

I am all for trading Muzzin, Martinez, Carter, Toffoli, Pearson, and if he says he's leaving then DD... can't trade Kopiatr because he wouldn't return his true value and teams are likely to ask for retention... not a good way to rebuild or even retool... We have 4 very interesting kids taht will trickle in over the next 2 season in Vilardi, Amadio(NHL), Clague, and JAD... add to that, that blake and Co have been rumored/linked to Voynov and its somewhat clear that theres something going on... Would love to also see Nikolai Porkhorkin, Alexander Dergachyov and if possible Dominik Kubalik...

This seasons trade deadline seems like it will be a "lets see if we can catch the Lightning" type deal.. aka a buyers market and we have plenty of pieces that teams would pay dearly for....

Mayor and LeBrun have said Blakes not done trading for secondary scoring.LeBrun thinks one move and Mayors says 2 or there.

Are they in a win now mode?Kings should just blow it up and sell and get young prospects, draft picks and young ready players.
They aren't in win now mode which is why Barzal and Pulock are so valuable to them. Realistically to get those 3 guys you're looking at something like Vilardi + LaDue + first + another top prospect and/or high pick.

Vilardi + 2nd probably wouldn't even get you Barzal.

Still think Blake won't--and IMO shouldn't--do a thing until Carter is back. We're not well-equipped to weather the loss of a 60-point two way center. Not many teams are, really, see everyone's darling TB missing the playoffs last year as an example. Hard to say what we have with this team when missing a key player in the top six as well as THE key player in the bottom six. We've still taken two of the best teams--and two of the healthiest, one of whom just won their 10th straight at home--to the limit on the road. With Malkin matching up against a rookie, mind you.

I know I'm being optimistic, but I'm seeing reason for it, in addition to the logic of Blake not blowing it up 2/3 of the way into his first year as well as waiting for Carter.
