Calvert might be cheap if Columbus falls out in a week. Not that he's anything but depth, but how much more would Blake really be looking for? Figure Iafallo stays where he is, Pearson has to play, and if Kempe is the 3rd center, he could slide onto the left side. Get some time on the PK. One less main guy that needs to be out there all the time.

We agree on Sheary However i think if it come at the price of a 2nd and Mersch ( a price agreed upon by a couple oiler fans) i would be ok with it. He can score and i think he has the grit to be our answer to Tkachuk who we may see a lot of if we make the playoffs
I wouldnt blow a 2nd on him, that could be another tt in a few years. Phaneuf can probably ruffle tkachuks feathers anyway

or it could be another Erik Cernak Roland McKeown Alex Lintuniemi or Valentin Zykov but maybe ur right on Dion. I would rather have booth thou Not that it will be the winning bid i think boston or tampa out bids us.
Cernak and McKeown are both RHD and will probably become NHL defenseman eventually. Zykov looks pretty good lately too.

Simmonds, Toffoli, Voynov, Calgue, Cammalleri, Clifford were all 2nd round picks. We need to hold onto our picks and prospects.

Just spitballing here, but I feel like Tomas Tatar could be a good fit alongside Kopitar. He's rumored to be available.

Detroit really needs D. Maybe send Gravel along with a pick? I don't see how Gravel fits in the Kings' future plans, but I think he's got some potential. I guess it's either he or LaDue, and I've liked what I've seen from LaDue way more. Gravel's also from Michigan.

Aside from this trade, would like to see Mersch moved for a pick or prospect. Just lacks the speed we need. Maybe a team who needs... uh... net-front presence can use him. He's also due for a new contract at the end of the year.

Which player(s) do you guys think would be worth parting with a 1st, 2nd or both + this year?

With how inconsistent we have been, I don't believe we are one player acquisition away from a cup run, just making playoffs are looking iffy but getting Carter back and a top-6 forward there could be a chance. There might be only a couple years left for this core, is it worth mortgaging the future to sneak into playoffs?

My vote would be Hoffman, having him on the top line with Kopitar and Brown would be nice. Most of the top forwards rumored to be traded this deadline will fetch a first round + roster player and prospect(s), Hoffman would at least be under contract two more years. Patches is the best player available but would deplete our picks and prospects for just 1 more year after this season. But that being said, Hoffman could have the same asking price but you would have him for 2+ years. With how deep this upcoming draft is supposed to be, I hope the kings won't spend more than a 3rd round pick + mid level prospect for a rental player.

“I think Forbs has turned into an amazing player,” Doughty said. “I don’t know if everyone realizes how good he is at defense. He’s like amazing at defense, he really is.”

Last guy Doughty praised was traded soon afterwards. Maybe Blake can figure out how to package Forbort to DET for Tatar.

“Obviously without Carts in the lineup you expect to score less goals, your power play’s probably not going to be as good, stuff like that, but other guys have stepped up to the plate,” he said. “Kempe’s been playing really well for us. Shore’s been playing really well for us. A lot of people don’t realize how good Shoresy is. You have to have a really good hockey IQ to understand how good of a player that kid is.

Last night I was checking some LA trades and wondered why the Kings traded away Larry Murphy.

Bob Miller often called it the worst trade in team history. Made absolutely no sense.

I always asked myself this question.

Would the Kings have been better with Coffey during the Cup run instead of Carson and Shuckuk ?

Gretzky has said he thinks they win the Cup with Coffey on the blueline.

You'd have to think so. Not even taking into account that Coffey had another 3 solid seasons in Detroit, while Carson was traded the following season for Dixon Ward, and then was out of the league shortly after that.

The reasoning is ok. Gretzky coming off a back injury. Needing another C. You have Blake, Zhitnik, and Sydor as young offensive D. Still, they had a productive Paul Coffey.

Calvert would be decent player, specially because he plays in lumbus first PK unit. Mid level lw.

I remember jumping for joy at the Coffee deal. I also hated Benning. All he ever did was dump the puck.

Was so disappointed that Coffee was traded away.
