I consider Weber and Biega in the same boat as right-side guys who you probably want as 7th and 8th on your depth chart to start the year. Only so many of those guys you can keep around. Always seemed like a good guy, glad he's stuck around the NHL in Nashville.

I don't think with 93 GP in a single season that Nashville agreed with you on the 7/8 man status. That's the season immediately after Vancouver gave him 45 games for a season and that was only because Edler went down and Yannick was subsequently recalled from Utica where he had just been assigned assigned, but didn't get to play because Edler's injury concurred with his demotion. So he finished the season in Vancouver instead of the AHL, but Vancouver then let him walk as a UFA and Nashville snapped him up. All the way to the NHL finals with a guy Vancouver saw no use for. Don't claim it's because they were rebuilding since Del Zotto, considered done by the Rangers, Nashville, and Philly was signed to a free agent contract when the plan should have been to bring in youth. Add Gudbranson and Yannick still had a place. Forgot about the other waste signing, Larsen. It's 2 years later and the kids are still Hutton and Stetcher and both are being raked over the coals on this site with some of the vitriol so strong that says neither is an NHL player and should be gotten rid of ASAP. Funny looking rebuild from where I sit. It's even worse up front.

Pretty much. Weber wasn't anything special but we may as well just have hung onto him rather than wasting assets on Larsen, gudbranson, etc. Etc.

"Justin Falk just yelled at Evander Kane, called him selfish and shoved him. Wow."

Though it was downplayed later on: http://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/tempers-flare-sabres-justin-falk-evander-kane-practice/
BUFFALO – Defenseman Justin Falk’s booming voice suddenly cut through the din of today’s intense Sabres practice.

“Shut the (expletive) up, you selfish (expletive),” Falk yelled as he skated at winger Evander Kane on the KeyBank Center ice.

Falk then shoved Kane before some coaches intervened.

Clearly, the Sabres’ wretched 10-win season has ignited emotions. About 30 minutes after the incident, Falk, who was battling Kane in front of the net, was still riled up.

“It’s just spur of the moment, emotions are running high,” an agitated Falk said in the dressing room. “This time of year, where we’re at, everyone’s got a situation they’re in, just heat of the moment, boiled over.

Falk and Kane had a scuff, exchanged some harsh words. Falk called Kane selfish and shoved the latter.

Naturally Sabres tried to downplay this incident. Might just be the mounting losses and TDL trade rumors getting everyone on edge. Don't think it's anything too big.

Steen, 32 - got 4yrs @ $5.8 mil
Plekanec, 32 - got 2 yrs @ $6 mil
Hanzel, 30 - got 3yrs @ $4.8 mil
Brouwer, 30 - got 4 yrs @ $4.5 mil
Bonino, 29 - got 4yrs @ $4 mil

GM's will GM ... he would get much closer to $5mil than 2.

Alex Steen : signed after 3 straight seasons scoring at a 60+ point/82 GP pace.

Tomas Plekanec : signed after a 60-point season.

Martin Hanzal : iffy numbers in season before contract, but considered a top defensive center and consistently scored at 40-50 point in years before that. Also 2 years younger than Eriksson and received $14.6 million on his contract, not the $20 million you're granting Eriksson.

Troy Brouwer : consistent 20 goal/40 point guy who had a monster playoffs immediately before that contract. Considered a playoff warrior and big-time locker-room leader.

Nick Bonino : 3 years younger than Eriksson and coming off two seasons as a defensive lynchpin of the 2x defending Cup champions. Received $16.4 million, not the $20 million you're saying Eriksson would get.

So no, none of these are good comparables. At all.

Also was a really dirty player that flew under the radar during most/all of his cheapshots. Almost single handedly torpedoed the Canucks seasons via cheapshots in one game (Torts year).

At this point I feel like Clendening keeps getting thrown into these trades as some sort of inside joke among GMs. He'll eventually end up back here no doubt.

I like the trade for Chicago. Arizona obviously missed Dauphin. Panik sucks this year, was alright last year, but he's under contract for next season, so that helps for Arizona I guess.
