Would anyone actually trade for Seabrook though? He's basically a #4/5 now and he makes $6.87 million for the next 7 seasons.

Benning might.

In his mind there's no such thing as utilization of cap or player evaluation. Stupid moron could trade Tanev + 2nd for Seabrook, crack open a bottle of cheap champagne and declare season success.

Then show up at end of year Canucks season ticket holders meeting, brag about the trade, and be completely shocked when fans aren't happy about it.

So the question you ask is.. if Seabrook was a UFA after this season.. would you sign him to a 7 yr $36.5mil contract... ummmm.. maybe...ssome GM might.. not me tho.

Related note..
If Eriksson was a UFA after this season.. does someone throw a 4 yr $20 mil contract at him? Probably, yeah...

Just talking actual $ money remaining on their contracts..

Doubt it.
If hypothetically he signed a 2 yr $16 mil contract here and was a UFA.. i could easily see him snag a $5mil per contract.. People lose track of how much players actually make in their peak seasons because people talk AVV only...

Loui is making $8mil this yr!!!

Seabrook is into Hamhuis territory ($3.75 X 2 years), that's the kind of offer he'd get this offseason. His play the last two years would put GMs off paying him much or giving him term. GMs are wising up to giving these struggling 33yo+ players big money and term. It is the 30-31yo UFAs with hint of their prime still on them getting stupid contracts (Ladd, Eriksson, etc). These idiot GMs are getting burned more often than not and they deserve it.

He would probably be getting something similar to the 2x2.5 contract that Ottawa gave to Burrows. At best.

Can't see any reason why he'd do better than that.

See Yannick Weber got a 2 year extension from the Preds. His NHL life continues. Played in 95 games for them including the playoffs last season, 26 GP this season. Apparently there was more there than met the eye in Vancouver.

Good bottom pairing Dman. As is Irwin. When you just need your bottom pairing to be solid, these are the type of additions to make.

I consider Weber and Biega in the same boat as right-side guys who you probably want as 7th and 8th on your depth chart to start the year. Only so many of those guys you can keep around. Always seemed like a good guy, glad he's stuck around the NHL in Nashville.

Not a chance.

The guy is a 32 y/o 25-30 point 3rd liner. As others have said, he'd be getting 2-3 years at $2-3 million/year.

A fairly solid two-way winger at his peak - but was he really ever considered elite to the point a GM (other than Benning of course) would take a chance at giving a 32 year old that long a contract (eg., 4 years @ $5 million a year)? I doubt it.

Steen, 32 - got 4yrs @ $5.8 mil
Plekanec, 32 - got 2 yrs @ $6 mil
Hanzel, 30 - got 3yrs @ $4.8 mil
Brouwer, 30 - got 4 yrs @ $4.5 mil
Bonino, 29 - got 4yrs @ $4 mil

GM's will GM ... he would get much closer to $5mil than 2.

None of those players put up back to back sub 30 point seasons prior to signing those contracts.

You need some better comparables.

It's nice to see that Kane is still causing problems. I look forward to the 7 year, $49M contract we throw at him this off-season.

Edit: for those of you who can't see the tweet, it says "Justin Falk just yelled at Evander Kane, called him selfish and shoved him. Wow."

I used to think there is a limit to Benning's stupidity, and I've been proven wrong repeatedly.

For the sake of this team I do hope you're right.
