I don't get why they ruin team Canada and USA by not letting U-23 players represent their national team. Why couldn't this "U-23 team" just consist of players who didn't make the national team?

I'm sure they will change that if they do this format again. It really hurts team USA this year as I think both Eichel and Larkin would help them at Center. Instead they're going with good ol' Stephan. And gaudreau is a game changing player as well. That NA team can make some serious noise in this tournament, if they get decent goaltending. Their forwards and D is pretty solid. Should be fun to watch.

4 forwards remain to be named. From: Huberdeau, Galchenyuk, Scheifele, Jenner, Domi, Pageau, Nugent-Hopkins, Matthews.

Hmm. I'd say Jenner and RNH is a must. The remaining two is a question.

JT Miller is a surprise to me, but I can see why he's there.

I'm kind of stunned by the fact that Huberdeau hasn't been named yet. Him, Matthews, RNH, and Jenner should be the other four.

In a vacuum I might take Galchenyuk over Jenner but I think Jenner brings something that this team lacks more than they do of what Galchy brings.

I'm still furious this team is taking part in this. How could I possibly enjoy this tournament with Gaudreau in that ugly jersey playing alongside a bunch of Canadians while Abdelkader is taking a spot on the US team? Total garbage. The idiots who thought this up should be banned from having any involvement in sports.

if it was 2 other countries they would get slaugthered. U23 team and Team europe adds a ton of balance to the tourney

favourites are sweden and finland

worst team is czech republic imo

Team Canada is ultimate favourite, I don't think it's even a question. Sweden is close 2nd. Then I don't know.

But this young NA team could do a lot of damage.

The bolded will get picked I think, but that could change due to health and postional need.
I doubt Matthews gets a look without having played a single game

Austin Matthews is pretty much a lock.

I would probably leave RNH at home because the team has 5-6 better centers already. Galchenyuk can play wing and is a superstar in the making so I would take him.

Would also take Huberdeau and Scheifele.

Dylan Larkin - Connor McDavid - Nathan MacKinnon
Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Brandon Saad
Jonathan Huberdeau - Jack Eichel - Alex Galchenyuk
Boone Jenner - Sean Couturier - Mark Scheifele
JT Miller

Morgan Rielly - Aaron Ekblad
Ryan Murray - Seth Jones
Shayne Gostisbehere - Jacob Trouba
Nathan Beaulieu

That's how I would fill up the rest.

How is Galchenyuk better than RNH?

Chia basically said there is almost no chance Matthews makes it. Doesn't want to put a guy in the highest level of hockey who hasn't even played one game at the NHL level.

Would love to see where he said this.

He's been playing in a men's league and only missed the last draft by a few days.

He will be on the NA team. No question.

Scheifele will make the team and be a prominent player. He's so good.

He'll head to the WHC and be a catalyst for Canada, that will cement his spot.

All I can say is that this team robbed Gaudreau, Larkin & Eichel from team USA...

Given Saad's big game experience and how close he was to making Team USA at the last Olympics (I think he was the last cut), I think he would've had a good chance at making that team too.

That's your opinion.

Chia, the GM didn't seem to agree. It was during the Team NA roster announcement.

from 0:49 it's McDavid and McLellan about team NA
