Im going to love to see if the 2012 NHL 3rd round pick unknowns at the time Ghost and Parayko make the team. What an accomplishment for them and the Flyers/Blues if it happens

2 guys that were passed over in the 2011 Draft now being considered 2 of the better young dmen in North America(and in the world).. wow

There is no need for a "quota". Simply take the best players.

This is the best roster right now: (if September 1992 - when the tournament starts - is the limit, [U-24])
*) players that wouldn't make the team if Sep 1993 is the limit [U-23], with (*) players that are born in 1992

FORWARDS:
Brandon Saad* - Connor McDavid - Nathan MacKinnon
Jonathan Huberdeau - Sean Monahan - Johnny Gaudreau
Alex Galchenyuk - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins- Jack Eichel
Boone Jenner - Sean Couturier* - Mark Scheifele
Ryan Strome, Sam Bennett/Jonathan Drouin..

DEFENCEMEN:
Morgan Rielly - Seth Jones
Jacob Trouba - Dougie Hamilton
Ryan Murray - Aaron Ekblad
Darnell Nurse, Jamie Oleksiak*

GOALTENDERS:
Connor Hellebuyck, John Gibson, Malcolm Subban

I doubt they will cut it to U-23, because then we would lose a bunch of great players and mainly #1 and #2 goaltenders which would be really bad.

Here's 8 americans, 17 canadians.

There is 0 chance Nurse or Oleksiak make the team over Gostisbehere. There is also zero chance Jonathan Drouin is included in any way, shape, or form.

Do you realize that prediction was made in July 2015?
BTW I also don't see Hamilton on that team. He was bad every time I've watched the Flames.

I'm 100% sure that Couturier is named into the first roster today. I will eat my computer if that's not happening. Jenner probably not, but he is going to make it anyway.

My projected final roster. I guess there will be one cut on D and one on forward but with injuries I am sure atleast one guy in each position may not be able to play.

RNH Mcdavid Mackinnon
Saad Monahan Gaudreau
Huberdeau Eichel Larkin
Bennett Couturier Jenner
Domi Reinhart Galchenyuk

Rielly Ekblad
Gostisbehere Hamilton
Murray Jones
Trouba Ceci

Gibson
Hellybucyk
Murray

I could see RNH-Couturier-Jenner being used as a shutdown line of sorts. McLellan relies heavily on RNH in a defensive role with the Oil and I could see him and Couts pairing up to do the same with this squad.

If you think you're so smart, answer us this...

The results table. The champion. Usually the point of these international events is to see which country can put together the best team, the one that comes out on top.

This event, however, features two NON-countries. And they're not just sideshows, but are given a legitimate shot at winning this thing. So... what happens if one of them actually wins? Or even finishes on the podium? What's the answer to the question, "what country put together the best team?" Uhh... USA and Canada together? A bunch of Euro guys?

Or do they take the actual country that had the best finish and crown them the moral champion?

If Korea somehow wins in their own olympics, at least you don't have to question the legitimacy of their title.

And I better note that "it's a non-issue, they won't win" is not an answer, so don't even think about it. It's a hand wave.

It would be very interesting to see if the U23's win this tournament, even more so with many like you calling them a "joke team."

it's a tournament with a unique twist and much more so of a "best on best" than the WC ever are recently and that's why hockey fans will watch and follow it.

Of course soem people will be more nationalistic or moral bout ti but hey it's their choice and I doubt anyone should care.

It's like one of my favorite authors John Irving once said he writes books for his readers not his critics.

Sorry but Korea in the Olympics is going to be a joke, either blowouts or teams not really trying plain and simple.

To even ask the question of if Korea wins that tournament is a joke or do you know that little about international hockey?

Im hoping Andreas Athanasiou keeps improving down the stretch run for the Red Wings so that he gets a look. I feel as though his speed and skill could cause problems for teams during the tournament.

I am amazed by your continued insistence on missing the point. Whether the gimmick teams are competitive or not doesn't matter. Many think they will be, many think they won't be. The point is that international tournament, which this is presented as, are supposed to feature national teams.

Everything you said applies to the NHL replacing eighth seeds in the playoffs with frankenstein teams made up from the best players from non playoff teams, and yet you can see how idiotic that is. It's the exact same thing. An arbitrary claim is made that two teams cannot compete, so a franksenstein team that represents nothing (in this case a country, the other a city) is created to "increase competition".

Right. You were the guy with no ability at all to understand common rhetoric. Silly me.

Carry on, then.

I still don't understand why they are having a North American team. They really couldn't find another country to join? Eh, they NA team will still be fun to watch.

It's not that they couldn't find another country to join, they didn't want to compensate and pay the expenses for 8 National Teams (Federations) for their participation when you can just fill out those 2 spots with NHL players. more of the profit stays in the NHL/NHLPA pockets as opposed to going to the Slovak or Swiss Ice Hockey Federations. but they'll argue it was for parity and competitive reasons... but you shouldn't believe their BS.
