Parise - Pavelski - Kane
Paccioretty - Johnson - Wheeler
Okposo - Stepan - Kessel
Foligno - Kesler - Backes
(Oshie, Kreider)

Suter - Shattenkirk
McDonagh - Carlson
Yandle - Faulk
(E. Johnson, Fowler)

Schneider
Quick

Top two lines seem like they would jive well. Some puck retrievers and raw-skill on each unit. Stepan belongs here, he is so smart and good defensively. That is big in a quick tournament like this. He also is a great passer and can get our stars the puck. Johnson is worth a look and if we need more size up the middle we can move Kesler or Backes there. I think he would be great though with Paccioretty and Wheeler, two huge bodies who can fly. D is easy, basically pair two great puck-movers to the two LH stalwarts in McD and Suter and you can play them 80% of the game.

if all the players were eligible

Max Pacioretty - Joe Pavelski - Patrick Kane
Zach Parise - Tyler Johnson - Phil Kessel
Brandon Saad - Derek Stepan - Johnny Gaudreau
Bobby Ryan - David Backes/Ryan Kesler - Blake Wheeler
David Backes/Ryan Kesler

Ryan Suter - Dustin Byfuglien
Ryan McDonagh - John Carlson
Cam Fowler - Justin Faulk
Kevin Shattenkirk

Jonathan Quick
Corey Schneider
Ryan Miller/Ben Bishop

when Saad and Gaudreau play for the U-24 team, I would take Kyle Okposo and maybe Nick Foligno or James Van Riemsdyk.

thoughts?

Backes and Kesler seem to be on the decline, I think Larkin and Eichel would be good enough for this team by next year if they weren't with the U-23 team. I think Stastny will be in the mix at center and don't rule out Bjugstad if he keeps progressing over the next year.

The US obviously doesn't have the depth Canada does, so losing Gaudreau and Saad on the left wing to the NA U-23 team definitely hurts. Foligno is looking like a one year wonder.

The defensemen and goalies look pretty solid I think

The defensemen look good other than Fowler, who has not progressed in his career as was expected. I would replace him with Keith Yandle, who is proving a lot of his critics wrong with his play for the Rangers

There's no question that this ridiculous U24 team impacts Team USA a lot more than it does Team Canada. I hope the final is Finland and Team Left Over Europe and it's played in front of just family and friends...and this ridiculous gimmicky team concept fails miserably. and some low level fresh out of business school marketing executive 18 months into his/her career at the NHL office gets fired over it...of course it won't be his/her fault, but somebody will have to take the fall for it...because it won't be GB, Daily, Collins or Fehr.

and yes, I know, Fehr is PA not NHL. :)

Regardless of Kesler's slow start, he is still a good player, and his speed and experience makes him a lock.

Kane-Pavelski-Parise (dynamite first line all playing very well)
Patches O' Hoolihan- Tyler J- Phil kessel (speed, two snipers with a good playmaker, Kessel underrated passer)
JVR- Kesler-Wheeler (speed and good defensively, and size)
Okposo-Backes- oshie (bangers, plus some guys with hatred towards Canada Bc "wakey wakey backes", good defensively as well)

Super-mcD
Faulk-carlson
Shattenkirk-buff/leddy

Pacioretty - Pavelski - Kane
Parise - Johnson - Kessel
JVR - Stepan - Wheeler
Ryan - Kesler - Okposo

Suter - Faulk
Shattenkirk - McDonagh
Krug - Carlson

Schneider
Bishop
Quick

I can't see Andy Greene getting left off again. It was a mistake in Sochi, and it would be a mistake next year in Toronto.

Absolutely amazing how underrated he is. People here posting guys like Krug, Byfuglien, Leddy, and Yandle on the back end, but not Andy Greene? It's crazy.

I still like the line of Parise-Kesler-Kane we used during the 2010 Olympics. Those three really compliment each other well. From there something like...

Pacioretty-Johnson-Kessel
Okposo-Stepan-Wheeler
Foligno-Backes-Oshie

You forgot Pavelski in that lineup.

Here's who I would go with "right now" and in no particular pairing/line order:

Goaltenders (x3):

Cory Schneider
Jonathan Quick
Ben Bishop

Defensemen (7):

Ryan Suter/Justin Faulk
John Carlson/Kevin Shattenkirk
Ryan McDonagh/Cam Fowler
Dustin Byfuglien

Forwards (x13):

Zach Parise-Derek Stepan-Patrick Kane
Blake Wheeler-Tyler Johnson-Phil Kessel
Max Pacioretty-Joe Pavelski-Bobby Ryan
JVR-David Backes-TJ Oshie
Brandon Dubinsky

good roster. Before the season started there's no way I would've had Ryan on my team but with the absence of Gaudreau and Saad and Bobby's ability to play left wing, I think he might make the team with the kind of year he's having thus far. I'm not a fan of Oshie but I could see him making the team over Okposo, I hope it doesn't happen though. I think Statsny ultimately makes this team because I'm expecting him to have a big season his second go round in St Louis. A lot people will complain about me leaving off Kesler but honestly he's been pretty terrible this season, just ask Duck fans, he's on the decline. On the other hand I will admit I was wrong about Fowler after actually watching him this year, his numbers might not reflect but he's having a good season and the fact that he's a left shot doesn't leave him with much competition for a spot, only other two realistically in the mix for that left shot spot are Yandle and Krug.

Zach Parise - Joe Pavelski - Patrick Kane
Max Pacioretty - Tyler Johnson - Phil Kessel
Bobby Ryan - Derek Stepan - Blake Wheeler
James van Riemsdyk - David Backes - Kyle Okposo
Paul Stastny

Ryan Suter - John Carlson
Ryan McDonagh - Keith Shattenkirk
Cam Fowler - Justin Faulk
Dustin Byfuglien

Cory Schneider
Jonathan Quick
Ben Bishop

I can definately see both Kesler and Stastny making the team as we are a bit thin down the middle. Stastny has been hurt and Kesler has had a rough start to the year which is why I left them off. Both can rebound though (Kesler has shown signs of life of late-my guess is he finishes in the 20 goal/50 point range again). I can also see Erik Johnson, Krug, and Yandle considered on defense. All three have been good this year. Johnson looks much more physical than in years past.

Wheeler - Pavelski - Kessel
Parise - Stepan - Ryan
Foligno - Backes - Oshie
Okposo - Stastny

McDonagh - Carlson
Suter - Shattenkirk
Yandle - Faulk

I'd like to see Stepan and Pavelski in top 6 C roles. Backes can C third line and Kesler/Johnson/Stastny battle it out for 4th line.

Parise - Pavelski - Wheeler
Paccioretty - Stepan - Kane
Oshie - Backes - Kessel
Saad - Kesler - Okposo

Give Kesler unit dzone starts and Backes unit more Ozone.

Suter - Carlson
McDonagh - Faulk
Shattenkirk - Byfuglien

Schneider
Quick

Did the thread for the U.S. World Cup team get buried somewhere? I can't find it. In any event, what are your current rosters? Here's who I would go with right now (defense pairings and forward groups aren't exact):

Goaltenders (x3):

Jonathan Quick
Cory Schneider
Ben Bishop

Defensemen (x8):

Ryan McDonagh/Justin Faulk
Kevin Shattenkirk/Ryan Suter
John Carlson/Cam Fowler
Dustin Byfuglien/Andy Greene

Forwards (x12):

Blake Wheeler-Tyler Johnson-Patrick Kane
Bobby Ryan-Joe Pavelski-Zach Parise
JVR-Derek Stepan-Phil Kessel
Max Pacioretty-David Backes-TJ Oshie

Bring in Pacioretty and remove Greene/Fowler and that is what I'd pick. Also, Schneider starts.

Seems about right. This is going to be a very tough tourny for the US and will be interesting to see what type of team they want, fast and skilled or more of a tougher grind it out team. But not having Bylsma coaching is a step in the right direction.
