If you are scouting Callahan and you are at the Tampa game how do you say yeah he's better than number 9. Its just insanity.

Callahan is much better at annoying Crosby, though, and that something that Tortorella seems to care an awful lot about.

Seriously, Kessel and Johnson are probably the most skilled US forwards after Kane, how on earth not even one of those two was selected?!?

Ryan Callahan had 28 points in 73 games this season. :help:

He had a recurring injury most of the season and was snake-bitten all season. Last season he had 54 points in 77 games.

It is not just about points and scoring. He is one of the better PK'ers in the league. He is the kinda guy you rely on to protect those one goal leads and can also provide secondary scoring. He is going to be a pest to play against, and that is one of his intangibles that does not show up on a stupid score-sheet.

This solidifies my lack of interest in this tournament. Insane that Tyler Johnson and Justin Faulk are not on this team.

How does Team USA continue to **** up something so simple?

Stop trying to outsmart everyone and PICK THE BEST PLAYERS.

This team is going to suck and be **** to watch.

Thats what happens when you have Tortorella, and even Lombardi involved. Both are infatuated with bit body, grind it out hockey.

Team USA desperately needs fresh blood in its management group.

Jack Johnson over Justin Faulk?!

Abdelkader over Tyler Johnson?!

Lmfao such clowns.

I would not be surprised at all if this USA team is unable to generate offense.

I respect the production of Pacioretty and Wheeler, as well as JVR, but how many times have we seen these big long stride scorer's come into a best-on-best international and look out of place because they dont have the space to get their footspeed going?

Im not saying each of those three will suck, but if you are expecting them to be driving the offense after Kane and Pavelski, expect at least 1 of them to let you down.

Kessel is a proven scorer who can break a game open with little space. So can Tyler Johnson. Those are the type of guys you need to mix in.

Also, with no Faulk and Shattenkirk, you guys are losing a LOT of offence from the D-line

Most of Team USA is going to be swatted aside easily by the Canadian and Swedish defense. They will be lucky to hit 20 shots and 1 goal playing them.

Hard to root for Team USA when they're doing something as stupid and petty as leaving phil kessel off the roster.

Swap Kessel for Callahan, Johnson for Abdelkader and Faulk for JMFJ and you have a much better team.

I hate this tournament, but I do greatly enjoy roster composition. This one is bad, given the talent available. Looks like two offensively impotent third/fourth lines straight out of the 1970s. If the opposition can shut down Kane, it's hard to see the team doing any damage. Not selecting Faulk is inexcusable really, and Kessel is at least a much needed playmaker. It really looks like they thought too much about this tournament being played on NHL sized ice and went for an outdated size/grit approach.

In any event, it's a team that could still beat any other in a one game setting, but far from the best roster from that talent pool. At least USA should see that Lombardi and Tortorella don't belong near any future rosters, and only at the cost of this idiotic tournament.

I feel bad for American fans. Can't judge their program based on this team. Missing so many elite talents

E.Johnson, J.Johnson & Dubinsky, but no Kessel, Shattenkirk & Faulk HAHA.

A group stage exit seems possible.

what a travesty. that bottom six is terrible compared to what it could be. jack Johnson is a riverboat gambler who doesn't think the game well, he is half the player Faulk is. If you don't want an offensive dman then take a guy like Paul Martin who can deliver mistake-free big minutes. Tyler Johnson and especially Kessel should be here and Okposo also is physical enough for Torts' style and also brings skill.

I'm disappointed that the Americans have failed to name their best players to the World Cup team. It diminishes the entire tournament. Have they not been watching Kessel in the playoffs? He's also the American I was most afraid of in Sochi. Tyler Johnson and Justin Faulk should have obvious selections. I just don't get it

I'm familiar with how he plays, we were the team who traded him to you guys.

This strategy was tried at the last Olympics, and that line was ineffective.

In a short tournament, you take your best players. You don't try to fill rolls.

I don't even have a problem with Dubinsky, EJ, Niskanen making the team for the last few spots. Those are players that should've been in the conversation for the 13th forward and 7th D spots. Jack Johnson and Callahan are pretty terrible inclusions that don't make sense. How can you leave off Kessel, Tyler Johnson and Faulk? The other decisions, I'm not going to quibble about Dubinsky over Okposo, Niskanen or EJ over Shatty, Fowler, Yands, etc. Those are pretty close, and you can understand why those decisions are made. If you replace Abdelkader, Callahan and Jack Johnson with Kessel, Tyler Johnson and Faulk, this wouldn't even be a bad roster.
