Who picks team USA? This team and the team they sent to Sochi were so bad. If they just sent their best players like Canada does they would actually be a theeat but they dont.

......players can still be added.....

A bit surprised to see Abdelkader. I guess they are looking at him in a 4th line role with the likes of Kesler and Oshie. This is definitely a Torts lineup. Haha.

Abdelkader will go to the net and take a beating on the power play. Can also play the penalty kill. I'm not sure it's that big of a surprise he's there.

It will be a good team. So excited to see Byfuglien finally on international stage :) his physicality will be needed against Canada :naughty:

Parise has a new look. Good job nhl.com

What no fat fill?

shocking , oh wait maybe not

they are trying to build a "TEAM"

not all show and no go

I have been saying for weeks over on our board I thought Abdelkader would be on this team. Surprised he was in the Top 16. But he is an extremely versatile player. Really both special team units. Can play up the lineup and down the lineup. He will likely play on the fourth line, but should they want more jam up the lineup he slides up pretty well. His PK numbers are outstanding. He actually is a natural center though he has played almost exclusively on the wing. Where you see that is he is pretty good at faceoffs when called on.

Abdelkader is a unique guy. His development took some time. He has never been an overly skilled player though he has enough of that. He works his *** off every shift and lays the body a lot. Just a really solid player and you need those in these tournaments.

You could replace "Abdelkader" with the names of half the US forwards and this would describe them accurately. The US does not need any more gritty guys who can PK and screen on the PP.

surprised about Abdelkader but he has been a good US soldier and answered the bell when called upon..I can live with him in a 4th line role.'

team will be weak down the middle, but we knew this anyway. Tyler Johnson starting to heat up thank God, he will be in our top 6 when it is said and done. very strong on the wings, with Kessel, Okposo, JVR, Ryan, Dubinsky, Coyle, Palmieri still out there only Canada can really compare with our winger depth.

defense and goaltending win these things and just like 1996 we will be elite at both spots. Quick, Schneider, and Bishop are as good as any 3 goalies groups in this tournament, period.

Suter, McDonagh, Carlson, Byfuglien, Faulk, Shattenkirk, and Fowler/Leddy/Greene rival any other countries top 7-8 without question. I take this group over every one not named Canada. they will generate a lot of offense and will be the catalyst to how this team performs nightly. so excited for this group.

we can get by with a group of Kane, Patches, Parise, Wheeler, Oshie, and Pavelski as if that is bad..hahaha...this group will be fine and will be in the fight for a gold with the overall group. now coaching concerns me big-time but that's another topic for another time.

they rewarded loyalty, basically. same can't be said for many of those "other" names.
Kinda like Kronwall being on the Sweden team, there are others who can do what Kronwall can do (other than the now twice-a-year checks) but just because he's a veteran and a familiar locker room face. Abdelkader will not be the difference between winning it all and not making the playoff.

Not a single USA center even plays #1 center on their NHL team....horrible depth

Canada doesn't send their best players either.... They just have more of them.

Must have missed Taylor Hall, Joe Thornton and Claude Giroux being in Sochi...

I didn't expect many to like the selection of Abdelkader. I thought he would be on this team all along. Extremely versatile guy and very tough to play against. Also a prototypical Torts player, still even I am surprised they locked him into the Top 16.

If you don't think Pavelski can play center, the position he played for his entire career before only moving to Thornton's wing within the last couple years, then I don't know what to tell you.

hoping/praying USA is smart enough to move him back.

Pavelski - T. Johnson - Stepan - Kesler - Backes isn't terrible by any stretch...just gritty and solid. Plus Oshie can play center too..
