Oshie is at least a first liner in NHLs best team.

yes, but where is the points? 35 points or something is not good. He was not producing alot of points when he played for Blues either. He should not make this kind of team.

Roster:

Ben Bishop, Tampa Bay Lightning, G
Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings, G
Cory Schneider, New Jersey Devils, G
Dustin Byfuglien, Winnipeg Jets, D
John Carlson, Washington Capitals, D
Ryan McDonagh, New York Rangers, D
Ryan Suter, Minnesota Wild, D
Justin Abdelkader, Detroit Red Wings, F
Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks, F
Ryan Kesler, Anaheim Ducks, F
T.J. Oshie, Washington Capitals, F
Max Pacioretty, Montreal Canadiens, F
Zach Parise, Minnesota Wild, F
Joe Pavelski, San Jose Sharks, F
Derek Stepan, New York Rangers, F
Blake Wheeler, Winnipeg Jets, F

The colors and the different logos and imagery with the american flag and the american nation should result in a much more refined jersey than that.

If you think USA has a bad jersey then you haven't seen those ones

Lombardi didn't pick the team based on points, he picked the US based on tryimg to play on a smaller NA ice surface. Hence the Abdelkader and Buff picks as well.

Team USA shows it has learned nothing by that Abdelkader inclusion. It's the canary that's died in the mines.

Aside from that team USA's wingers are up there with the big boys, but tbh center is where they're going to die. Kesler and Pavelski aren't in their prime anymore. Do they match against Backstrom and the Henriks? No. And I won't even start about how USA compares to Canada's center depth. The under 23 roster is lousy and not helping anyone and team USA could really use an Eichel and probably even Matthews RIGHT NOW. Maybe the next Olympics? If it happens?

Pavelski isn't in his prime? Lol

There's still seven picks to be made, but I think our only hope of winning this tournament based on this roster is for the goaltending and the D to limit our opponents to 2 goals or less and hope that Kane and Pavelski go nuts scoring goals.

Our biggest problem in Sochi (other than heart...we played scared against Canada and then didn't bother to show up against Finland) was scoring goals. Sure, we scored plenty against weak teams (Slovenia) and regressing countries (Czech, Slovakia). But in three games against the proverbial "big boys" (Canada, Russia, Finland) we scored a combined TWO goals in three games. And if memory serves, both were on the power play. No even strength goals in three games.

And Lombardi's solution is to leave pure goal scorers like Kessel and Ryan off the team and bring in Justin Abdelkader? Ugh.

I like Abdelkader, but he's 16th in scoring among American forwards (for perspective, we'll be bringing 13 to the tournament) so he won't help there. Plus...am I the only one who remembers him going head-hunting on Vladimir Sobotka in the Worlds a couple years ago and earning a 5:00 major and a game misconduct? In an elimination game? When he was the team captain and thus supposed to be setting a good example? What if he can't control himself again?

Our goaltending is among the best in both quality and depth. No matter who's in net, we'll excel there. I like the D picks so far, and I'm curious to see who gets selected with the other three picks. But these forwards? Man. They're all good players but other than Kane and Pavelski...who do we expect to actually score the goals?

With two of the next four picks I hope they will pick Kessel and Ryan. Both have demonstrated they can score goals over the course of a long career. Sure, neither is exactly setting the world on fire in that department this year. But neither are Oshie, Stepan, or the aforementioned Abdelkader...yet they're all on the roster.

I'm surprised Yandle hasn't been picked yet. Wasn't it Lombardi who lobbied uber-hard for him to be selected for Sochi, only to be overruled in the end? Now Lombardi's in total charge, and Yandle wasn't picked automatically? I find that interesting. Not disappointing per se, but interesting. He may still get picked with one of the three remaining spots and I hope he gets one.

Anyway, we've got our checkers and our two-way players on offense, now let's add a few goal scorers. Otherwise we'll be looking at a lot of 1-0 games, regardless of whether we win them.

Kane, Pavelski and Wheeler are three of the top 15 scorers in the league this year. There are also some able goal scorers on either wing. That said, guys like Bobby Ryan, Kyle Okposo, Phil Kessel, etc. are going to have to earn their spot

I can still never forgive Kane for absolutely sucking in Sochi. I simply cannot.

I've been hurt too many times (yes, once is too many). Replace him with a rusty propane tank, I don't care, as long as it's made in America.

He was the only player that looked remotely dangerous against Canada in that game...

Really? How many of the ZERO goals he scored the entire tourney did he get in that game?

Nobody looked dangerous because Bile-sma (Ha! I just thought of that. so clever...) decided to break up and bench the one line that had real chemistry. Instead, he leaned heavily on a guy who scored as many goals as I did in the Olympics that year.

Bring on the Blue Rhino!!!

Patrick Kane was one of the best players on our team in Sochi and the best in the Canada game.

Abdelkader isnt NHLs biggest star, but he is versatile, you can play him both in an offensive role and in a defensive.

Abdelkader isn't a horrible pick, he's just surprising to see in the initial 16. As a thirteen forward type he is fine, and he may be utilized in that role. USA has strong goaltending, elite and well rounded defence and enough scoring to scare teams. Coaching will probably be an issue though... it really should be Laviolette. The biggest issue though is USA being robbed of Gaudreau, Eichel and possibly other players due to the joke gimmick team.

Ryan - Pavelski - Kane
Pacioretty - Stepan - Wheeler
Parise - Johnson - Okposo
Oshie - Kesler - Coyle
Abdelkader

Suter - Carlson
McDonagh - Faulk
Fowler - Byfuglien
Shattenkirk

Jonathan Quick
Cory Schneider
Ben Bishop

Andy Greene deserves to be here but USA hockey always snubs him for some reason. I'd have him in over Shattenkirk or Fowler
