For the World Cup, I hope only SHL players go. In reality, N. Kronwall will def. be in the team, too much loyalty and such for him not to be picked (and, the Detroit bias shown by Swedish staff for two decades now...).

For a 2018 tournament, I still stand by my pairings from the roster thread.

Hjalmarsson - Karlsson
Hedman - Strålman
Ekman-Larsson - Larsson
Brodin - Klingberg

Gives one PMD and/or one RHD in every pairing. Have a Canadian mindset with 30 second shifts and roll all four pairings.

Team Shorty, Mickey Mouse (Disney) or not Overly Physical: In short a team who plays AROUND the opposing team.

Sedin - Sedin - Pettersson

Omark - Bäckström - Klasen

Petersson - Zetterberg - Nyquist

Arvidsson - Krüger - Karlsson

Klingberg - Karlsson

Enström - Oduya

Kronwall - Strålman

Enroth

Steen - Bäckström - Forsberg
Zetterberg - Söderberg - Landeskog
Sedin - Sedin - Eriksson
Rakell - Wennberg - Nyquist
Stålberg

Hjalmarsson - Karlsson
Hedman - Strålman
OEL - Edler
Kronwall

Lundqvist
Ullmark

I don't dare to say this in the Finnish tread BUT some 320 NHL goals are scored by a swede and only about 112 by finns this season. Don't dare to mention defensemen assists.

Well Sweden has over 2 times more players in the NHL than the Finns. So it's not surprising.. It is a fact that 10 players score more than 3 players if the are about at the same level. Sweden has also better players too than us.

Or do you expect 69 players to score less than 26 players.. I think not.

FYI, it is 80 vs 35 players this season. New record for most Swedish players playing at least one game in the NHL season.

Also, the numbers will change in a few years. Sweden has a bit of a forward drought in the last few drafts, whereas Finland is producing a lot of high-caliber forwards at the moment.

I didn't count goaltenders.. They don't usually score goals. Maybe I should have said skaters, but oh well.

So I knew that... And yeah Sweden is far ahead and will be probably always. But we are getting closer. Sweden will have great defense at the World Cup.

Not only is Finland getting closer I expect them to be up there in 2-5 years depending on how long it takes for their high end prospects to mature in to full fledged stars, not all of them will of course but I'm pretty comfortable with saying that they will have a roster that's noticeably better than the Czech rep and on the same level as Sweden/USA/Russias in a few years.

Do not get why people have Hjalmarsson in the team. To me far from good enough.

Can he not play lw or rw?

I had him as LW on my team if you go back a page or two. I think skating is a factor no matter what. But let's not overblow this, he doesn't have breakaway speed anymore but he can still get around the ice just fine..

Special teams are extremely important in these short tournaments and the PK is just as important as the PP. Hjalmarsson is hands down our best penalty killer. He'd also be a good complement to one of our offensive D.

Every d-men can play PK, no reason to take out players just for that reason. Hjalmarsson has one of the highest giveaways in the league even though he is not a puck moving d-men. His defensive is very overrated.

You're not supposed to lay down completely here! Arguments may be that:

1. We (finns) only need one good line and the rest will play igelkotta-defense.

2. Our big stars are in the KHL and in SHL

3. We get three-four World Cuppia-goals outta players like Jussi Jokinen and Leo Komarov. And the day will come, and THE DAY WILL COME for the new Selänne to walk upon earth.

4. We always throw the puck at opponents goal no matter what and if it goes in it goes in otherwise we have made the spectators and finnish saunawatchers to go 'oooouuuuwwww' anyway.
