Didn't watch last night's game. How does Sweden stack up to team U-23?

Can we beat them?

Yes, with the same boring play as against Russia it should work. Although, NA are playing as Russia SHOULD be, they are extremely fast, unbelievable.. and historically Sweden has a problem with Russia when they are playing as they should (which isn´t the case these last 2 weeks) so that could speak against them. But NA don´t have as good goalie and they do pretty much the same, always rush because that is their strength and pretty much the only thing they used (maybe because they knew about the weaknes in the russian D), they never dump and chase or fight for the puck notably.

Boring?:amazed:

You mean dominating Russia for 50 minutes?

Would you say that Iceland dominated the game against England in the euros?
Sure, Sweden held the puck unlike Iceland, but other than feeling as if we didn´t have the puck at all I don´t really feel as if Sweden was dominating the game with the bus defense, dump and chase and keeping the puck. Surely they could have used all that possession to convert more, but they didn´t, which is my point - they mainly focused their possession on playing safe and never took a single risk. They played the whole game as if it was a sudden death.
Sorry, I just don´t respect that kind of style even though it may by some be considered as "smart". I accept that small teams (like Iceland) play like that because they barely have any resources, but when elite teams as Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Portugal (football) or Sweden (ice hockey) play like that it's awful.

Come on, Malkin was the worst Russian player out there. He's made more passes to the opponent than his teammates. He had at least one turnover per shift, plus a penalty. He was dragging down Kulemin and Tarasenko.
He didn't play with Tarasenko though.Other than some lazy giveaways,Geno's been fine.He and Kucherov have potential.

Sweden dominated Russia? I must have missed something.

North America will beat Sweden. Willing to do an avatar bet with any Swede.

Sweden created more chances than Russia, held possession and gave up very few scoring opportunities - and most importantly, we won.

I have no idea how you can call that boring, it was a great team effort.

I'd rather win and not play a run and gun hockey - than lose and try to be cute.

Guess you have other priorities and I respect that. :)

See you in the final. ;)

There's a difference between grinding a win in a close game and dominating. Sweden was a bit better and deservingly won, but it didn't dominate

Be a shame if Kiddies don't make knock out round -- they're far&away the most exciting team to watch...BUT

I agree with u, YG's are gonna beat Sweden...SANS DOUBT!!!

So what has to happen for Russia to make the semis?

There are various ways, we could be out even if we win against Finland and we could as well go to the semis by losing to them in OT.

Essentialy, I would advise everyone to take a look in this threads post no. 7 and try to tell which format is being used. Because unless we know for sure, we might as well be cheering for the wrong results.
Try, everyone.

Dangerous team IMO. Everyone seemed to be focusing on Team NA before this match up. But I think Team Russia was the more dangerous team moving fwd. Never count out the Russians. If they continue to come together, they will be a handful.

Team NA was done in, in part, by shodding goaltending and an inept pp last nite...sure didn't help losing Ekblad either...

Russia dominated pretty decisively for about 10 minutes...and they are indeed a dangerous squad...BUT so are YG's who out shot them smthg like 46-25...

A lack of finnish by McD, a post in the dying seconds by ghost, and last but certainly NOT least...BOB's HEROICS, also contributed to a narrow loss...

But the good news is that they live to fight another day...a day 3Kr's will rue...

Looks like Swedish player high stick hit Orlov's on/off switch button and he suddenly started to play good. Wonder if someone could find Malkin's on/off button... not sure if Telegin even got one though.

And yes, our current FW line combos don't work pretty much at all.

So, Orlov started to play good in the first game, Telegin - in the second, I guess it is pretty clear who we need in the third game. :)

Goddamn, they had to make this freaking complicated and pretty much arbitrary.

Just checked the stats of Pavel Datsyuk from the last night: 65% wins on faceoffs, 5 takeaways, 1 blocked shot. This guy simply doesn't age. What a player!

I wouldn't say that it's arbitrary. It's just more complicated when more than two teams are tied for points. Russia simply needs to win its last game against Finland in regulation to increase its chances of qualifying. Easier said than done of course.

My bad, Kucherov was with him. Geno hasn't had a positive contribution outside of the pass he made to Kucherov in the slot. Would've been a sure goal if not for McDavid hooking Kucherov.

Russia hit some goal posts as well - Tarasenko, Ovechkin and Kucherov all hit iron. The idea is to try to shoot it inside the goal posts, where the netting is.

Team NA matched up well against Russia by being the fastest team in the tournament against the slowest defense. Still, Russia earned the win, and Team NA will likey have a much tougher time trying to penetrate Sweden's defense, arguably the best of all.

I hope Russia go home. Everytime i play computer games the russians are so unfriendly.
