Don't think this version of TC is as good as some seem to think. We lost Keith (biggest loss ), Seguin, Benn and Carter. Marchand was involved in a viscious collision last nite, wouldn't be surprised if he's out with a concussion. Didn't like snub of Hall and inclusion of a 37 flippin year old Thornton with that logjam of natural centers already...

Russia beat YG's already...and they're not exactly chopped liver...Single game elimination, or best of 3, this TC is ripe for the picking imo.

The only game Team NA lost was razor-close loss to Russia. I could see them beating Canada, especially in a single game scenario in the Semi-finals.

It will be interesting to see how Russia handles today's game. Everything will be against Russia, particularly the crowd, which will be frenzied and 100% in favor of Finland, which you wouldn't ordinarily expect for a FIN-RUS game in Toronto, Canada. Go Red, White and Blue!

If he is out with an injury, could we still replace him with a new player, say Kovalchuk (in theory)? Or is it too late?

Too late, roster has been set, not to mention that Kovi is in Russia now.

We need Malkin today.

Russia is going to get run over by Canada. No chemistry, too many individuals out there and Znaroks got new line combos every game. The line that should be together without doubt is Panarin Dadonov Shipachev. Instead we are pained with watching Telegin miss pass and skate like bambi out there with Dadonov. A crying shame in comparison to the old Russian teams, where the forwards new where each other were in their sleep. The group before the individual, common - someone go drop a hammer and sickle in the locker room to remind them of how to play!

I'm so happy that we get to se Russia - Canada, I was hoping to see a legendary classic with a best of 3, but this will do as well.
I'm so dissapointed each time that the two teams play a big tournament without facing each other at some point, but now, here it is! Lets do the best out of it! :handclap:

Telegin plays better and better with every shot he blocks.

Despite scoring a goal, Malkin is still hungover.

Semifinal is a decent result. Good thing is that noone expects anything from us now, so the pressure is off, maybe it can be our advantage.

Is Pavel out for todays game ??

I liked the new lines and i hope Malkin wakes up now.
We will win 2-1. I dreamt it last night so it has to be true :)

Telegin is doing his job, blocking shots, being in front of the opponent's net and grinding the puck along the boards. He's the only blue collar player in this Russian squad.

I agree with everything you said. All the pressure is on Canada to produce in front of their home crowd. No expectations for Russia at all. Just have fun and enjoy the spotlight.

Ok, next task for Russian scientists: clone Kucherov, Kulemin and Panarin and we're golden.

Well, I think this team did even more than they could. Even Malkin and the D didnt look that bad (ok, maybe except Kulikov) this time. Datsyuk was heavily missed.

Overall, I like that younger guys are taking it over from Ovi and Malkin. Also I like this new Ovechkin's role. On the negative side, if lack of quality D is being dealt with, lack of quality powerforwards (with all respect to Telegin) is quite worrysome, we are getting constantly outmuscled.

I am proud of the team. We still have to work on a lot of things obviously, but it's a vast improvement from the last two best-on best tournaments (Vancouver and Sochi).

Ok, some thoughts:

New Russian generation is good and promising. Let's hope our D miraculously improves because it's killing us. Malkin had an atrocious tournament. Without Datsyuk our team couldn't win faceoff to save their life. Coaching was bad - awful PP, awful zone entries. The only good idea was holding defense back because it's better off preparing for possible counterattack than trying to help offense. Too bad it meant no combinations on offense whatsoever, only individual plays. Still, this team didn't look as hopeless as previous ones so I take this result as a net profit.
