Another thing, as the broadcasters across the hockey world noted, Znarok did not line match. The hockey world laughed at the Russian strategy of playing lines #1-4, without considering match ups.

Huge mistake!!! This angers the NHL players because match ups are crucial. No wonder Russian NHL players hate Znarok.

Russia needs better coaching, I hate you guys, but you are Canada's #1 rival. I want you to do well and play you for Championships. Get rid of Znarok, bring in Bragin.

This !! This was also mentioned in 2014 and i belive it was Ovi who said that the NT was lighthears behind the NHL regarding match ups. I do belive this is something Znarok does not understand. You have to wonder if what the hell Tretiak and Russia is thinking letting him lead the NT.

Regarding Ovi i do belive that its wrong to let him be the captain and leader
He is a funny guy who says " it is what it is " and " lets se what happens " There is no " we are here to win " Malkin (yea i know he has been awful) should be the captain. He plays better and the team has shown before they follow him ( 2012 )

But again as i said earlier...we can fix all of this but as long there is no effort we are ****ed!!
I was shocked to see how slow and bad the USA was and my friend asked me if they were affected of the russian virus...its a shame how they played against sweden. I shame really...

Yea, I think we never do that, not even Bykov did it in Vancouver either. I think that traditionally you should believe in your own idea rather than focusing too much on your opponent, maybe that's the mentality from cccp because they knew that if they did their thing they will eventually win.

Would be a good idea, but I think we have a crucial problem here:
Russian coaches are always good when they have full control and are in power over a team, then the players obey. His success in the juniors may be due to the fact that the players do exactly as he tells them to do or else he can pretty much contribute a lot to ending their career. In the national team since 90's it's the other way around - the superstars can do pretty much as they wish and if you bench a superstar - he will end your coaching career... Bykov contributed a lot to change this and was respected, but I don´t think Znarok has the same mandate - and Bragin could find himself in the same position.

Russian teams have played lately so different than the former Soviet teams. When Russia is down lately, the team quits. It seems like they give up and do not want to fight back, I don't understand.

Bragin gets the best out of his Russian teams (Bykov was good too before VAN). Those Junior teams give 100% effort. He's a hard ass, he's even tough with our media. Even when the Russian teams are outmatched, they find a way to win or fight to the final whistle. His players give 100% effort, they play with heart to the end.

In Canada, Bragin is viewed as a 1st class coach. He's sly and gives nothing to our media, they love him here. Watch the Sportsnet broadcast talk about him, they have enormous respect for Bragin, he is a perfect coach for short tournaments. Bragin is a master motivator, hopefully an NHL team hires him one day. I believe in what he brings. The results speak for themselves, Bragin always has his teams playing with 100% effort.

Where are you guys getting this?

I'am pretty sure all players love Znarok, especially Ovi.

Defense and coaching may be a problem, but how is everyone missing that offensive leaders (Malkin, Ovechkin), been playing like crap like the past couple of tournaments? (I guess Ovi was decent in Minsk, where everyone was playing there C teams)

I would love to see Bragin lead the NT. It would be interesting if some russian guys here at the forum could give some information about what the Russian media says about Znarok and also if there has been some talk about Bragin ?

I think Team Russia will play well tonight against Team NA. I see positive signs. Not trying to jinx it but i think they will beat the kids tonight. Certainly will be more of a handful than Finland were.

U-23s only weakness is defence. Your biggest strenght is offence.

This game could go either way, but your experience and hunger to prove that you're better than you were against Sweden - will probably energize the troops a lot.

Russia is still the favorite, though plenty are saying otherwise. YG's have speed to burn and talent up the wazoo. But nobody moves as fast as the puck. Put YG's under pressure and they'll crack. The wild card is Matt Murray. Methinks he'll have to be lights-out! He certainly has it in him...

Team NA have better D than Russia. For some reason development of good Dmen has been neglected recently. This will change soon with Zaitsev, Paigin, Provorov, and Sergachev coming up.

This Russian D is very weak, arguably weaker than the Finns. If Russia doesn't come out with full effort, the NA kids will destroy them. If Team NA attack in waves with their speed and skill, this could be a long night for Russia.

Bob has been good there is no need to change that
The rest of the team needs a kick in the ass

Was just wondering as I'm an Avalanche fan attending the game tonight. No doubt, Bob has been stellar and worthy of the start. However, would like to see Varlamov in net =)

Does anyone have the ice time stats for last night? I was at the game and every time I would look up at the board, guys like Ovechkin, Tarasenko etc had very low time on ice. It was all spread even.

We've got some of the best forwards in the world and when Sweden or other teams know who is going to come on next, it makes it easy to throw on their top defense. Load up on Ovi, Malkin etc and let the opposition defense get tired then the 2nd wave of forwards will come in and make the plays.

Can't fault anyone on not trying hard enough, everyone worked their ***** off, but the players really seemed clueless as to what to do next and it's got to be down to coaching. Hoping for a better performance tonight.

lines during optional practice this morning:

Bobrovsky, Varlamov, Vasilevsky

Orlov, Datsyuk-Kucherov
Kulemin - Malkin - Tarasenko
Kulikov - Marczenko, Panarin - Shipachev - Dadonov
Nesterov, Namestnikov, Telegin - Anisimov - Kuznetsov

Ovechkin, Markov, Zaytsev and Emelin did not skate, apparently.

Team Russia WCH garbage?

Team Russia WCH garbage?
Russia is playing awful.

This is the weakest team in WCH?
I am sure the Team North America sure today win Russia/

The Russians so far are doing their usual thing - playing as individuals and not as a team.

They'll get shelled 5-2 tonight, eliminating the possibility of a Canada vs Russia dream final.

As I said in another thread it will be 10 - 9 but not sure who wins.....

Well, even if Russia wins the chance of a Russia - Canada final is far away unless Team Europe comes out clean from that group, leaving Canada as 2nd or a bunch of results going the right way in group B, enabling Russia to become #1. The most likely example is if Russia wins today and/or against Finland with a few goals to get the diff. and then one/both of those teams beat Sweden but with less goal diff. :)

Team Russia was a shadow yesterday. I think most of this has to do with Znarok's incompetent coaching - where's the system, the strategy?? When coached well, the Russian forwards are terrific and are some of the best in the world, but under Znarok's 'guidance' they seem to disappear. Russia, you better step the **** up if you want to stay in this tournament! Hoping for a better match tonight.
