We'll be eliminated by North America and Sweden. Our defence is... Kuzya and Ovi just don't want to play, our first line is the worst one on the team. Namestnikov-Datsyuk-Telegin have no chemistry. Panarin-Shipachev-Dadonov - OK, Malkin's line - not bad. But two lines with no defence is just not enough to struggle against top teams.

Agree. For example, anthem at the Sochi OG opening ceremony was just perfect (and I mean it, I don't think it is possible to perform it better).


Returning to the team, I still can't get away from the feeling that I wan't Datsyuk to center Ovechkin and Kucherov.

Come on, that's not true. There is no player on this team who enjoys playing for his country more than Ovechkin. The guy takes the first flight each year to join the Russian team at the WC just hours after his club is defeated in the playoffs. They had a bad game, it happens. I haven't seen Malkin either yesterday. Only 6 players stood out to me yesterday. Panarin, Shipachyov, Dadonov, Kucherov, Tarasenko and Bobrovsky.

Its been ONE game! An exhibition one at that and some people are losing their minds. :scared:

Its not a successful game unless EVERY player gets a hat trick, I guess.

This. Datsyuk has had chemistry with Ovechkin before. The obsession with putting teammates together is not helping things here.

I'd like to see a Panarin-Kuznetsov-Tarasenko/Kucherov and Ovechkin-Datsyuk-Kucherov/Tarasenko.
 
Yea we could really Datsyuk between Ovechkin/Kucherov. That would free Kuznetsov up to play with Malkin and Tarasenko. Then Kulemin could play with Anisimov and Telegin on a checking line.

you know it won't, we don't have a country wide system, unlike fins, swedes, Canadians and Americans, which means - it takes a lot longer to get chemistry going.
We can never establish puck possession and cycling, the way aforementioned teams can and the way soviet teams used to dominate.
We end up falling back onto the individual skill - and; therefore, are easy to shut down.
We get dominated on face-offs and in the crease.

I just don't see us being very competitive in this tournament. I hope to be wrong.

Znarok is trying to mitigate chemistry problem by playing former/current teammates, but it won't help much.

Your forwards are superior to ours (Sweden), so that game will be really tight.

I have no idea which two teams will go through from that group. I'd say U-23, Russia and Sweden are all on the same level - and Finland always play a lot better than their individual players would lead you to believe.

Our group is a total nightmare, haha..


Btw, if the WCOH continues to be a tourny with gimmick teams, perhaps next time we can create a team with Russian forwards and Swedish defencemen!

I wish it worked that way, but it doesn't. You have to have defense to clear the zone and get the offense going the other way. Russian forwards spend most of the game in the defensive zone chasing pucks, and they suck at it!
