That second PP is nonsense too.

Funny how Kovalchuk didn't fit in the team... Now he's scored 10 points in 6 games in KHL.

Hindsight is 20/20. Kovalchuk was struggling at the time of the selection, being a healthy scratch during the playoffs. His play returned to normal when Datsyuk arrived in St. Petersburg.

Kovalchuk-Datsyuk-Radulov would've been a wonderful line. This is what I would've done:

Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Kucherov
Kovalchuk-Datsyuk-Radulov
Kulemin-Malkin-Tarasenko
Panarin-Shipachyov-Dadonov

Extra: Namestnikov, Telegin

Agreed, this would of been great.

Nice lines.:yo: Though id replace Namestnikov with Anisimov.

Am I the only one worried that OviKuziKuch line looks too offensive minded? I mean, at least on paper, having Datsyuk there instead of Kuzy would make it a bit more balanced, imo.

I don't like the obsession with defence of forwards. The line's task will be scoring goals.

I don't know if Kucherov is a perfect fit on the line. He might be better off with Malkin and Kulemin. Just imagine the upgrade on the Triplets. Malkin instead of Johnson. And Kulemin might have less offence than Palat, but is every bit as effective defensively and as a guy for the dirty work to relieve the stars of it. Anyway, it's all mind games now.

There are so many dream combos on that offence. Like Ovechkin and Tarasenko on the same line. Two such deadly snipers on the wings would certainly be interesting.

Or Datsyuk and Kucherov as posession monsters together.

Lol, he's a diehard Ak Bars fan, of course he doesn't like a former Salavat goalie.

You should seriously vent those absurd mindsets.

There are no "former Salavat goalies" on the NT, only russian goalies. It is actually your problem that in your world a player gets +20 skill if he plays for a certain team and -50 if he plays for another. In your world I should probabaly be against Radulv as well:laugh:

First of all, I don't think it matters because it'll likely be Bobrovsky and Varlamov as the main goalies, but at this point in time Vasilevsky has a lot more experience in high pressure games like NHL playoffs so I don't understand how Sorokin is a much better option.

And I write this with no disrespect towards Sorokin. He had a great yearend is looking really promising.

Sorokin has way more experience as a starter and a complete playoff run under his belt. If you think that NHL game experience is worth more than KHL you are wrong, especially talking about goalies. But that's only one part of it. I just think Sorokin is the better goaltender right here and now. Vasilevsky's development got stalled a bit. The injury did not help obviously, but it is what it is. He needs to make the next step ASAP, while Sorokin is developing amazingly well for now and is in great shape.

Of course all of this is talk about the 3G spot in a short tournament and I doubt Vasilevsky is getting any starts.

How many people would agree with you, I wonder...

Sometime in the 13th century most people wouldn't agree wth me if I said the Earth was round, so what? The opinion of the majority is not changing facts.

100 % agree great team. This is the best team today but i would also want Namestnikov instead of Anisimov.

I dont know about Russia in this tournament but i think we will be great in a couple of years when our defence steps up

Ovi for captain..i dont know a part of me sees this generation with Ovi as not winners...i hope i am wrong..would be a big boost for Russia if they win

Oops, I forgot Anisimov. I'd select him above Namestnikov for sure.

That top line has a defined role, scoring goals. Znarok will give them shifts in the offensive zone, and they will score a lot of goals as they should. Malkin and Tarasenko will be the second scoring wave, while the other lines should have regular deployments, maybe a little bit more defense oriented for Anisimov and Datsyuk.

Ovechkin - C
Malkin - A
Datsyuk - A

That's the right choice. Ovechkin has the most experience being the captain of a team, and he is the top player on the team.

I don't think Russia will win because of their defence, but I'm sure the Russian forwards will have a great performance in this tournament.

Yeah, great on paper but 3-4 lines are massive defensive disasters.

It wouldn't be an issue if those forward lines were backed by a competent defense. Russia needs to get back to developing solid defensemen. At least Russia will have Provorov and Sergachev in a few years, but now it's just awful. Zaitsev, Marchenko and Kulikov are okay. Markov is slow, Orlov is risky and Emelin is terrible.

Defense is definitely going to be an issue. If we are to win, it's going to be on a combination of our forwards doing what they do best and keeping the puck on the other end of the ice and strong goaltending from whoever is the starter.

Kovalchuk led players off the ice before the Canadian national anthem was played at the 2015 WHC. That was disrespectful.

I'm sorry to say it, but Kovalchuk was the leader who made Russian players leave. Ovechkin stayed, he wanted to show respect. Kovalchuk brought shame, Russia acknowledged it and he has never played since.

I respect Russia for turning their back on Kovalchuk. Your country showed Canada lots of respect at the 2016 WHC. St. Petersburg hosted an excellent event. Our countries showed respect for each other as the Hockey Superpowers. Never forget, our coach wore the flag of St. Andrew on Victory Day. We stood with you as allies against tyranny. Russia will never again leave the ice during O Canada.

First off, the ceremony after GMG 2015 was WAY too long and thoroughly confusing. Second the door at one end of the rink opened, an official waved team Russia off the ice, and off they went.

Third, the statute of limitations has long passed on this PERCEIVED SLEIGHT...so enough already

4th, WW2 was a long time ago, and who exactly the good/bad guys are, geo-politically speaking, is far from clear, nowadays.

P.S.: If u really wanna protest emerging tyranny, turn Canadian flag upside down, superimpose All Seeing Eye/ Triangle of Columbia over Maple Leaf and add caption below: ' Under New Management'
