Filppula shouldn't play.

His career is on free fall,13-14 season looked great
(his first as a Lightning) 25G+34A +5 in 75 games,but then...

201 games since then, have scored the same amount of goals (25)
tallied 98 points,with -26 in plus minus.

Sure he is still good at face-offs,been Tampa's best actually
in the past 2 seasons with 52.2% and i suppose is still
good PK player, but still...i wouldn't of chosen him to team Finland.

The past two seasons Filppulas role has changed a lot and he has been mainly the third line centre in Tampa because of the emerge of Johnson. He plays the first PK and against other teams first lines and he's arguably the most important shutdown forward in Tampa. He also averaged the most toi/gp of all Tampa forwards in the last playoffs, which is kind of a big deal when you consider the forward depth Tampa has. I think Marjamäki plans to use him the same way as a Third line shutdown centre most likely paired with Komarov.

My fwd lineup:

Laine-Barkov-Jokinen
Granny-Koivu-Donskoi
Lehterä-Filppula-Komarov
Korpikoski-Aho-Haula
TT

Filppula definitely has a spot on our bottom6.

I got some inside information about the lines.

Laine, Barkov and Jokinen are going to stay together, wingers possibly changing the wing.

Aho is going to start as 13th forward.

Given the facts i predict the lineup is going to look something like this.

Laine-Barkov-Jokinen
Granny-Koivu-Donskoi
TT-Filppula-Lehterä
Torpedo-Haula-Komarov
Aho
"Inside information" being something MTV Sport had a news article on last thursday?

If it's not Laine-Barkov-Jokinen instead of Jokinen-Barkov-Laine I'll be very angry. I wish they'd stop putting Jokinen in with those two. Try other combinations until you find someone who actually works well there.

I really would like to see a Laine-Barkov-Donskoi line much more.

Haven't seen any news but I heard directly from someone whos on the team. I know a half of the guys at some level, Im in whatsapp groups with several of them and been at one guys wedding etc.

Hopefully they try out Laine-Barkov-Jokinen or Laine-Barkov-Donskoi in at least 1 out of 3 exhibition games. :help:

Yes, good idea to put the only two forwards who shoot right on the same line..

Alright, that's good to know. I guess that confirms the mtv sport news. My apologies.

If you do have inside information and they actually will change wings, that's great news btw.

It actually is a great idea to put LW-R and RW-R on the same line. It's much better than combining the LW-R with a RW-L. As Laine should be the only LW-R in the team, it's an obvious choice.

I read that YLE will show Leijonat Inside series after couple of weeks. It is the same series that is currently running on Viasat right, can someone confirm? Kind of unexpected that these channels have some collaboration.

Surprising to read Komarov say these could be his last games wearing Suomi jersey.
Bought Viaplay again and had to watch Leijonat part 2, tough to listen Marjamaki have Salomaki vs Aho vs Laine talks while seeing Mr buy out on the 4th line, Aho could use his time better if he's going to be sitting in the press box which seems to be the case.

How was part II? I really enjoyed part I.

Still puzzled why Korpikoski is going, he was so awful for us this year. Complete possession and offensive black hole.

Part 2 was good, it was around picking the last 7 players, Timonen,
S. Koivu and Marjamaki scouting playoff games and having talks about the style differences between NHL ice and European ice, and some short bits with few players, Koivu, TT, Maatta and Ristolainen can be seen on it.

Seems like Ahos role is already planned, they tought he was amazing on the last 2 games at the Worlds though.
Lehtinen is very high on Aho, he's high on his IQ, how fast he thinks the game, said he hasn't seen someone like that for some time, S.Koivu made a case for Laine, he has a special gift and they couldnt leave him out even if he'll make few mistakes they can live with them and him being a right hand shot helped as well.
Aho and Laine were the last ones to get picked.
I loved watching Salomaki on the 2nd half, he would have been a much better fit for 4th line energy role instead or Korpi

Also Koskinen, Saros and Raanta were fighting for the last goalie place.

Awesome thanks BB :yo:.

I would take Salomaki over Korpikoski any day. Heck, even Pakarinen is better than Korpikoski.

I'm high on Aho too as you know, we've talked about this in HFOil discussing Pulju. Watching Pulju's Karpat film, Aho stood out over and over again. Very high hockey IQ, reminds me in some ways of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, a smaller framed guy but just an intelligent hockey player all around.

Laine was obviously the right choice, he loves the bright lights and embraces the pressure. This will be a great experience for him before his NHL career begins. I'm curious how he will handle the faster and more physical style of play on the smaller NHL ice, he seems like his game needs more time and space.

Haha I was too slow with my editing skills

But yes Aho looks amazing, it's been great to read he is serious with training and maxing out his potential and having players like Jussi Jokinen mentoring him and helping him to get ready for NHL.
Same with Laine and this tourney if they both get to play should give their NHL careers a nice boost.

I'll try not to expect miracles from them, but to see them get better game by game, my goal is to really try to enjoy seeing the talent play and think about the future potential.

That's good. I see this tournament as kind of a changing of the guard tournament for you guys. Especially at forward.

Barkov, Laine, Aho, Pulju (eventually Tolvanen and Vesalainen for 2022 added to that group) are the future of Finnish hockey. This will be a good experience for Barkov, Laine, and Aho. Should be fun to watch. Barkov is really starting to establish himself as a two-way beast, eventual national team captain and leader in my view.

Like every tournament after Torino 2006?

Gold is the only standard Finland's meidän peli should be measured against.

YLE seem to have a deal with Viasat, they're even posting clips from EPL games that Viasat aired, complete with the Finnish pbp guys.

I wouldn't put Laine and Aho in the same line. Too much of a liability in the own end. Aho might be more useful in top 9 as a winger than he would be on the 4th line.

Agreed.

I'd try Aho with Granlund and Koivu or with Barkov and Jokinen.

Ok thanks. I guess that confirms it's indeed the same series. No need to get Viasat then. Gonna watch Leijonat Inside on YLE later.

I'd decide between Rinne and Rask after warm up games. I don't know how ready either are but I'd go with Rask as a starter

Rinne is the obvious choice for me.

Rinne has been one of the worst starting goalies in the NHL for the past 2-3 years. (Brutal sv%). Rask is clear choice and i would even put Koskinen as 2nd.

I think Rask will be the starter and Rinne well he hasn't been up to par after his latest injury. but still I would put Koskinen in. just because we have excellent goaltenders and he might just be the best solution. well anyways can't wait the hockey season to start. :handclap::yo:

Viaset Finland is preventing this guy from watching the video of team Finland coming together with English subtitles for this tournament.

You wouldn't think they were capable of such censorship over there.
