Viaset Finland is preventing this guy from watching the video of team Finland coming together with English subtitles for this tournament.

You wouldn't think they were capable of such censorship over there.

It's called broadcasting rights/copyright, not censorship. It's the same reason why NHL blocks me from seeing some clips on their Youtube channel because Viasat has the Finnish rights for NHL.

I think Rask will be the starter and Rinne well he hasn't been up to par after his latest injury. but still I would put Koskinen in. just because we have excellent goaltenders and he might just be the best solution. well anyways can't wait the hockey season to start. :handclap::yo:

It is a nice thought to have an unknown in goal, but the bigger problem is rebounds and angles. Koskinen never invested the time to get these down - on the small ice he is a risk that we can't afford.
Rask on the other hand, is the best there is on those things.

Haven't seen any news but I heard directly from someone whos on the team. I know a half of the guys at some level, Im in whatsapp groups with several of them and been at one guys wedding etc.

Can you find out of Pate plays LW? He is again in the same line as in WHC. Hfboards mainly thought he should've been LW on that line. I guess the training session will show though.

TBH I thought your inside information was from Leijonat Inside TV show, too.

Doesn't take long when Aho replaces Korpedo. Guys is uselees. I want 4 lines able to score.

Granlund - Koivu - Komarov
Jokinen - Barkov - Lehterä
Teuvo - Filppula - Donskoi
Laine - Haula - Aho

PK pairings:

Koivu - Komarov
Barkov - Jokinen
Haula - Filppula

This is what I'm expecting too. But I'd really like to see just for S&G:

Jokinen - Teravainen - Donskoi

Brrrraaaaiiiiiiinnss...

Yeah I know Teravainen won't be center. Koivu, Barkov, Haula are self evident down the middle, I guess Filppula too. (And "HauLa-Aho" if it happens is going to be fun to watch. Some assorted moxie in that line.)

I really like those PP units !

Laine-Barkov-Komarov-Jokinen-Vatanen

Granlund-Koivu-Donskoi-Filppula-Ristolainen

From what I understood Pate is going to be lw. Atleast it will be tested.

edit. during the 1st ice practise Pate is playing lw and Jokinen rw so that should confirm it.

Okay, so

Laine - Barkov - Jokinen
Granlund - Koivu - Donskoi
Lehtera - Filppula - Teravainen
Korpikoski - Haula - Komarov

I understand keeping teammates together, and some others where they are used to playing, in such a short tournament. (I guess Granny and maybe Laine were "locked" at LW, likewise Donskoi Teravainen Komarov at RW.) Still not sure what to think of this layout. Ah well, who knows what happens to it after today's ice time. And anyway this roster is going to be fun to watch.

Can someone dissect those lines for me one by one? What's the logic in each, who has what role in it? And does the Haula line have a specific role? (I know my hockey but my brain is just "giving bad air" now. Plenty better gurus around here so's I ask.)

Saves me alot of raging on these boards :handclap:

Solid lines

Laine left! Now they had better stick to that.

The iltasanomat comments are full of people who don't understand how good Laine is. It feels like so many Finnish people don't really get it.

No, Laine should not have problems in NHL size rinks. No, Laine is not weaker than Aho in all around game.

Lauri Marjamäki was Aho's head coach for the past 2 seasons. You can bet he knows Aho's limits. It's ridiculous to think that he'd favor Laine "just because". He doesn't do that.

Laines position is solidified and he was at no point fighting with Aho for the same roster spot.

Aho will get his change in training match(es). It's between him and TT who stays in the pressbox.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind if Aho takes TT's place to be honest.

Laine- Vatanen pp blueline, Laine Lw :handclap: :handclap:
What a beautiful sight.

Laine-Vatanen is going to be so, so, so much better than Laine-Hietanen, we get to see what a threat Laine truly can be on the powerplay.

I'd switch Granlund and Jokinen. 1st unit lacks passers, 2nd unit lacks shooters.

It depends on the roles.

For the first unit, if Barkov playmakes, Komarov in front of the goal and Jokinen in the middle it should work out alright, although Jokinen is admittably not optimal there.

For the second unit, Granlund is the playmaker, Donskoi is the Laine and then hm. I believe that Koivu would be in front of the net and Filppula in the middle. This should work out alright.

Swapping Jokinen with Granlund would actually make no sense here unless you want Barkov in the middle and Granlund playmaking for PP unit #1.

However, then the second unit would have no capable playmakers. Koivu just was not good at that role at all during WHCs and neither was Jokinen. Hence, Granlund needs to be on one unit and Barkov on the other.

Laine- Vatanen pp blueline, Laine Lw :handclap: :handclap:

Yes, this is much better thought of. If Barkov also is the playmaker, Marjamäki accomplished the completely obvious PP lineup that was so tough for Jalonen(Damn that coaching was horrendously atrociously terrible at WHCs).

Please confirm Laine at LW at 1st ice practice. It's more important than you think!

Hietanen frustrated the hell out of me at the Worlds, Vatanen has the IQ to set up Laine, and then there's the beauty Barkov also setting him up.

Yep. I still remember from WHC how Hietanen missed few open passes to Laine on the PP. I don't see Vatanen doing that mistake.

See the video in my link. Laine even commentates the LW position vs RW position. Seems happy about it as expected.

I'll summarize this interview in English.

Reporter: "How much do you want to show players like Mark Scheifele and Jacob Troube(Your future teammates) what you've got and what you are able to do?"

Laine: "It's of course going to be good to show the guys that I've been training during the summer and can play with them this year. But of course, I don't want to take all their confidence away when the entire season is still ahead so let's see what the situation is like afterwards.

Reporter: "The line is now the same as in the last WHCs so you have some familiar buddies with you. How important do you think it is that you are used to each other and have trained together for a long time?"

Laine: "It'll probably help quite a bit. The WHCs went really well. Still, it probably doesn't really matter who I'm playing with as the other guys are all such good players that it'd likely work out with anyone. Still, it's nice that I can at least begin this tournament playing with these guys.

Reporter: "You are now playing on the left wing like last spring?" (My comment: OPEN YOUR EYES, REPORTER GUY!)

Laine: "No, last spring I played on the right wing and that was a bit... I rather play on the left wing so it's good that we switched it around so it'll be a bit more comfortable.

Reporter: "How did you reach this conclusion? Did you have a discussion about this?"

Laine: "No not really, Marjamäki just said that I'm the left wing and Jussi is right so I just went to the left." (My comment: There's a reason Marjamäki is my favorite Finnish coach)

Reporter: "And that suits you really well?"

Laine: "Yeah, I was pleased to hear the decision that I am going to be playing on the left wing."

Reporter: "How many more kms have you accumulated for your BMW?"

Laine: "I haven't counted but a couple of thousand km as I've been traveling between Turku and Tampere."

Reporter: "You have changed the brand of your stick...(Rest I can't make out due to ambient noise)"

Laine: "Yeah, I've been testing all sorts of sticks during the summer and Bauer fit in my hand well so we're going to test it for these real games as well."

Reporter: "And you can shoot well with it?"

Laine: "Well, pretty decently at least. I believe that I can probably score a goal or two with it at some point in time."

Reporter: "Was it a lot of trouble, switching the sticks?"

Laine: "No, I just tested a couple of sticks and that one was pretty good so I decided to order a few of those."

Reporter: "And the same flexes and paddles?"

Laine: "Yeah, everything else's the same too and the guy's the same as well, so..

Reporter: "The guy's the same? So he hasn't improved at all?"

Laine: "Well, I've improved but the guy's the same so, I haven't really changed even though I hopefully have gained some more strength."

Reporter: "And the flex is the same even though the guy's stronger?"

Laine: "Well yeah, uh... It's a little more stiff but it's still such that one should be able to shoot well with it."

So what we can take away from this is:

#1: Morreale is dumb for saying Laine is a RW for NHL.com, same with all those other scouting sites.

#2: Laine has become stronger

#3: He now uses a slightly higher Flex stick but it should function the same way as the last one. This probably means that Laine can add power to all of his shots.

Props to the last reporter for seemingly knowing something about the sticks. He clearly wasn't some random reporter who asks nonsense questions.

We need to remember with Laine at this World Cup that playing with Barkov means he is going against the best players in the World, and no one should expect him to dominate there.
