So NHL.com rates Finland's coaching 6. in world cup.

#1 is Canada with Babcock and #2 is USA with Tortorella.

The Canadian, USA and Team North America coaches all had a paragraph talking about them. The rest of the coaches got a single one-liner combined that only named the coach and the team.

They don't know enough about us, and we overrate North American coaches.
Like at WJC, I said Jalonen was best coach - got ridiculed. Eventually Jalonen had essentially spotless tournament (goalie hesitancy tho) and the great US coach was ridiculed for not scouting opponents or whatever it was.. :/

We have good coaches, only one I rate vs Marjamäki is Babcock - but material gap is so big its nigh impossible to compare.

Even if we don't include Marjamäki and him turning Kärpät into a dynasty essentially overnight, how about Oleg Znarok? He's one of the most successful KHL coaches ever with 196 wins and 100 losses, 2 Gagarin cups and 1 Gagarin cup final appearance as well as a continental cup title. He also coached Latvia to top 8 at WCs. Then he does have 3 medals of all different colors during his 3 years of coaching Russia. Could at least have added that.

Their reasoning was along these lines: "This has stanley cup, This too, This has coached in NHL".

It's like this:

Only NA coaches coach in NHL -> Only NA coaches win Stanley Cup -> Only NA coaches are good because they are the only ones who won Stanley cup -> Only NA coaches coach in NHL

Finland's coaching/team game has been #1 for many years.

Always, ALWAYS perform much better than the individual players talent level would indicate.

Can only dream of Sweden ever being able to get 100% out of the team. We usually never even reach 75%...

Lots of guys don't like Korpikoski on this team, but we still need grit and penalty killers.
Teräväinen is obviously a good player, but very similar to Aho and Granlund (smaller size and playmaker that can play centre and wing).

Too bad Korpedo can't be switched for Salomäki anymore. That would bring a better player in, all zones I'd say. Korpikoski is declining and Salomäki brings very hard hitting game. Hopefully Korpikoski isn't a liability because we need all the physicality we can have.

TT should be in the lineup for sure.

You usually play the hockey of coniferous forests or even harpoon hockey. That is no match to ice hockey of cooperation, meidän peli.
It's just offensive puck control hockey with a very strict system.

That buzzword is annoying as is, even more annoying is when it's misused. Finland has played "hockey of co-operation" since the dawn of time.

Now, I might be mistaken with this, but when that term was coined I believe Jukka Jalonen was pretty adamant about concentrating on what his team is doing instead of worrying about the opponent, aka concentrating on "our game" or "meidän peli". This is a primary reason for why I dislike this as I think that this is clearly suboptimal. I also dislike Marjamäki's system being described with this buzzword for the same reason, as his philosophy doesn't meet Jalonen's in this case.

Salomäki is a physical beast. His role play was impressive as well as his physical side of the game during the 2015/2016 season. Also, did great in the playoffs.

We can fix that. Sweden just replaced Kronwall with Lindholm, so if an "accident" happens to Korpikoski...

Korpikoski pick is something that bothers me a lot, we don't have the most talented team, I understand that but atleast pick the best players possible.

Korpi was bought out this year, he's not that great.

Maybe they should do something about it then. Just say he's injured and replace with another player :yo:
Rantanen :sarcasm:

So his contract got bought out? I wonder if he will even end up playing in the NHL at all then?

Honestly, I felt he played decently in Sochi though.

So what about NHL.com's best defensive forward rankings? Barkov there only at 7th :D

I am a canadian and I wouldn't read much into that. I quite disagree with their rankings. But it's just their opinion, everything should be taken lightly, everybody has one, and that's fine...

The "Leijonat Inside Documentary" is awesome!! Thanks for sharing. It seems like they(you) take it with a lot of prestige :) I am happy to see that because this tournament deserves that imo. I know some people are not happy about the format...but it's just a game! It will undoutebdly bring very special and historical moments :) I am convinced it's gonna be one of the best tournament ever in the history of hokey.

Im very dissapointed if marjamäki doesnt put granlund and laine on same PP.. granlund is the best passer on the team and it isnt really even close.

Vatanen
Barkov Laine

Aho Granlund

Is what i would do, perhaps Koivu or Jokinen for Aho, Komarov if they play with goalie screen

His contract got bought out even him having just 1 year left, he hit a sharp decline and should not be on the team.

I can't wait to see this tourney started, after months of waiting we get to see hockey again, and high quality hockey.
We get to see best players, lines we could never see in the NHL and just enjoy.

It is what it is. I hope they really limit his minutes and just use him as a PK killer. Otherwise just completely replace him with Aho and TT. If a player gets injured then bring him up.

I'd like to see the 4th line be: Korpedo Haula Aho. Or TT Haula Aho.

Ye, it's going to be amazing. I'll do my best to watch all the exhibition games. IMHO, they will basically be the real round robin games considering that the 3 opening round games are more of less do or die contests.

PP unit...

---------Komarov----------------
-----------------------------------
-------Barkov--------------------
-----------------------Granlund--
Laine------------------------------
------Vatanen---------------------

I would likely not mind a system like this.

One of Kari Jalonen's numerous failures was the PP. The role choices for certain players made next to no sense.
