Jakub Kindl waived by Detroit... I'm afraid the blueline will be pathetic. For some reason both at the senior and junior level it lacks high-end talent, unlike the forwards (Voracek, Krejci, Zacha, Pastrnak etc.)

I hope that not only NHLers are allowed to participate in this tournament?

Yes it will be... defense was always the biggest weakness in the team though. Whenever Czechs made any success they had an excellent goalie. In junior level it's getting better, we had Masin and Zboril lately and now we will have Hajek, Budik, Hronek.. and more. It seems defense program wes improved, so in the future our D situation could get (finally) better. But for now, our D is awful, actually beyond awful... That being said, I don't think Kindl had/has any high chances of making the team anyway. We should be allowed to take players from Europe and there's a handful of those who are better. (Kempny, Kundratek, Nemec plus some more probably, not so hard to be better than Kindl) I also think Mozik could get some recognition, he is doing pretty good in AHL's Albany Devils.

I have to say, as the years go by the strength of our national team seems to get worse and worse and worse.

I think we may have to wait for the 96-98 generations to grow up before we start competing at a good enough level to win anything. I think we may end up having to put some younger guys in defence out of sheer desperation....

Even those forwards look less and less appealing.

Yes it's true. It's pretty obvious though. 2006-2010 draft: our only forward that is worth something is Voracek. Frolik is also good, but he is still only middle 6 forward.
Basically those 2006-2010 drafts sucked except few players and it's evident the A team will get hit by that. 96, 97, 98 and the following generations can't grow soon enough, those could finally produce some quality NHLer again..

That first line, lot of people putting these guys together, it just seems to me too much playmakers, no snipers. This will be quite an issue for this team, actually it has been generally issue of national team for quite a time. I guess Pastrnak and maybe Vrbata if he gets to little bit better shape (though I havent seen him this season but +- is horrible) will be pretty much lock for that reason.

I also see too many defensive Ds. I hope Kempny, Kundratek or Krejcik would make it. My personal wish is Mozik will be called up to A team, ND will not make an playoff and coach will test him in WC, but thats not going to happen :)))

Ok I hope so. I think Kindl could've had a chance to make it because there are way more right- than left shooters.

Actually I don't dislike the forwards. I just think tournament comes one year too late. Voracek, Hudler, Palat and Vrbata all had career years last season, Plekanec, Frolik and Pastrnak were doing great too.
I think if they can regain that form, if Krejci plays like playoff-Krejci, and if the role players like Hanzal & Sobotka do their job, this could be a pretty good group. A lot of ifs, but not impossible.

What about smid these days? Can we put him on defence instead of one of our less experience guys?

Looking at the roster and comparing it to other teams... I think we'll be glad if we don't finish last.
That defense is gonna be painful to watch. Our only chance would be some Mrazek magic..
It's gonna take a looong time before we start being competitive on best on best tournaments again.

What happened to Smid anyway? He was top 10 player in his draft class and now he can't even crack the NHL roster... I would rather give the chance to someone like Mozik, who is perspective and still has time to become a NHL regular. (I know, he didn't even taste NHL yet, but I hope sooner or later he is called up)

Considering Mrazek's numbers are definitely not a product by Detroit defense, I hope he can keep his standard play and be our MVP of the tournament. He is the player who should keep all games close. Mrazek will be like 29 when our promising 96, 97 or 98 generations grow up to prime age. Mrazek + Pastrnak + Vrana etc... sounds promising :naughty:
Though we will have to survive the next upcoming years where we will be second-grade team before that happens.
Long story short, we are missing quality 25-28 years old players, which is a problem considering that's a prime age and every other team has loads of those players.

Yeah our future looks pretty darn good. But yeah right now it's not great. Voracek and Frolik are our only prime guys I guess. Not too great haha

Oh right, yikes-didn't know that. I wouldn't be afraid of throwing in Zboril or even Masin/Kostalek. I mean, ok, they're all a bit young, it's a bit of a crazy thought but why not? They can't be that much worse than what we currently have. And they'll gain valuable experience so when we really need them they'll be ready.

Agreed. We gotta be patient.

Yeah well, Mrazek is the only thing that makes me at least a bit optimistic about the World Cup ;)

Any chance Zacha gets a look?

I doubt it. Guys from Europe will go first (Filippi, Vincour, Pribyl).

By the way I think Dominik Simon should get a serious consideration. He was one of our top players in WHC.

Oh, I absolutely forgot him, somehow. He definitely should be in a serious consideration and he should be ahead of all players from Europe (besides Kovar and Sobotka).

I really think that in this type of tourney, you're gonna see Faksa centering the 4th line.

Wouldn't be too bad actually...

So Josef Jandac will be coaching this team.. what's your opinion guys?
I was personally pretty high on him as a future coach of the national team few years back.. he has pretty good results but he has never had any bigger success in the play-offs and that concerns me a lot. Let's see, I guess..

The first thing I saw was that he wants to talk to Jagr....I mean, seriously? Leave the guy alone already lol! He's done more than enough for the team and he deserves to rest.

As to him coaching, I'm not convinced either. Like you said, no playoff success. But I don't think the coach matters too much, given the group

Also, whatever happened to David Musil? He was supposed to be a great defensemen for us!
