I think ROR being able to play C or wing....and his great defense will give him the nod over someone like Simmonds.

Good pick with ROR. I was wondering if picking someone like Letang and moving Burns to forward was an option... Though, it would really mess with Burns. ROR is a player we could use, takes pride in the defensive side of the game and someone who could work well with Toews IMO.

Ryan O'rielly.

Man with some of the decisions management has made for this Tournament, I'm officially hopping on Team North America bandwagon.

Saw that O'Reilly was added. Another interesting insight into Hockey Canada's thoughts. I'm glad that O'Reilly got a shot. I'm a fan of him as a player, and it's good to see him rewarded for his WC contributions. I assume that Seguin was supposed to play a RW role, so I'm a little surprised that they added a C/LW, but O'Reilly is versatile. I suppose that there wasn't really anyone other than Hall who brings a package similar to Seguin, and Hockey Canada seemingly wants none of that. Perhaps the plan is to play O'Reilly with Duchene, if O'Reilly even plays, as O'Reilly was Duchene's LW in the 2014 NHL season. O'Reilly also succeeded with Giroux (and Seguin) at the 2015 WC. Too bad for Seguin, but good for O'Reilly.

I'd have preferred Hall. Some switching around certainly could've been done. The extra speed certainly could've been used here.

Nah. I get what you're saying re: Hall's skating ability (ROR is no slouch though) but realistically ROR will slot in on the 4th line (or be a healthy scratch) and can be counted on to play a disciplined game when he's on the ice and chip in on the PK. The top 3 LW positions are more or less spoken for already, and Hall wouldn't be as good of a fit as ROR as a depth player.

We just lost a high scoring skill player, I would've liked to have seen him replaced with another high-end skill guy like Hall. O'rielly is a good player, but I would've liked to have seen Team Canada take a flyer on Hall here, instead of going the safe way, as it seems they've done all Tournament.

Perhaps with Giroux a little banged up they wanted the PK'ing ROR can provide as well instead of a guy like Hall, etc.

If everyone was healthy and a Duchene or Marchand got injured, Hall likely gets the call.

Yeah, fair enough. I suspect that with the line combo's already largely formed they were looking to slot in a guy on the 4th line that would be a safe play. ROR played with Duchene for a full season, and also with Giroux at the World Championships so there's already some familiarity there with his likely linemates. I suspect that if it was Tavares or Couture that went down, Hall may have gotten the call. Hard to say.

Should have picked Stone this is getting ridiculous. He is younger a natural right winger and has been better than O'Rielly the last two seasons. Simmonds over Stone is also mind blowing to me, Stone has been simply much better. His affect on whoever he plays with is phenomenal and all the advanced stats back it up. He was unreal at the World Championships, leads the league in steals by a mile, highest scoring canadian right winger. What else does he have to do here?

Not sure where you're going with this but adding ROR to any team is a huge plus.

Only Canada could lose the likes of Carter, Benn and Seguin, and be able to replace them with Couture, Perry and O'Reilly.

Still, I don't see Canada winning this one.
