I'd put him on one of the pp units and let him use the cannon God gave him...definitely give the opposition cause for concern

He will be. Vlasic will and should not even be close to a power play unit once games actually start. But vlasic should be tops for the penalty kill.

Same can be said for burns and the penalty kill he should be no where near it. But should be leading the power play.

My defensive units would be for the power play.

Doughty/burns
Weber/muzzin/pietrangelo.

2 minutes of power play time in game 1. 2 minutes and 15 seconds game 2.

Team canada has an abundance of offensive threats from the backend to choose from that could be called power play specialists.

Burns and doughty have been much better power play producers for the past few years then weber.

Once again weber might have 1 good part of a power play game, but he is not the best option.

What are you talking about?

Last year Weber's PPP/60 was 5.85, ahead of both Burns' 5.23 and Doughty's 5.59.

Speed speed speed speed. You heard it here all you need is speed and to be a natural winger to be better then someone.

Doesn't matter that one player is much better defensively, much better offensively, much better at controlling the play.

Old Slow Joe had a shortened off season, and guys at that advanced age tend to take longer to get into game shape, plus tend to be more injury prone, picking Joe seemed like an unnecessary risk, with T Hall still waiting in the wings, a winger no less. How much more does Big Joe have left in the tank? One never knows, since some guys seem to go from top guns to has beens, almost overnight...

Hall, comparatively speaking, is a spring chicken ( 24 vs 37! ), plus a much faster and more dynamic skater -- bearing in mind that youth and speed seem to be where the game is going, especially in Best on Best ( or as close as makes no never mind ) competition as Team NA attests. Hall is a better puck mover too , plus has a better shot than Big Joe. And being a natural LW, with such a logjam of centers seemed like a Big Plus, especially when said winger has demonstrated great chemistry with Crosby -- as the 2015 WC attests.

I'm happy Joe seems a good fit alongside Seguin and Duchene. But that still doesn't mean that I don't feel Hall was a better fit for this team.

Course Babcock's never wrong? Right?

Chris Kunitz anyone ? :sarcasm:

I care about ppp/60 as much as i care about point per game stats. And that is none.

Last year.
Burns 30 ppp
Weber 26ppp
Doughty 24ppp

Year before.
Burns 20ppp
Doughty 17ppp
Weber 15ppp

I was slightly wrong about doughty since he has pretty much been even with weber.

Must be eating hall apart that a player 13 years older is out producing him by 17 points. Heck thornton put up only 2 less assists then hall did points.

And for hall having this great shot, thornton only scored 7 less goals on 160 less shots.

It's a team game and for forwards to excel, it helps to have talented D men feeding them the puck. But you go analytics guy...I'll stick with what my eye's are telling me...cause I'm Old...

Like Old Slow Joe :D

Can't go back 3 years for burns. He was a forward 3 years ago.

Wow power play goals. So in other words burns actually creates goals for others while all weber can do is shoot the puck hard.

Kunitz wasn't 4th in the NHL in scoring rhe year before his selection? Poor example.

There is a greater chance that Hall has been ruined as a player having had to play for Edmonton than Joe's play having fallen off a cliff in the past 3 months.

And the irony of you suggesting Joe's is a greater injury risk than Hall is laughable. Hall has missed almost a full season's worth of games over his relatively short career, whereas Thornton has only missed 6 games since Hall came into the league.

Since when Weber can only shoot the puck? Just because he has more goals does not mean its the only thing he can do lol

The forwards in the powerplay are skilled and creative enough to makes plays by themselves. Having the guy with the best slapshot in the league would be better than having a defenseman who will try to make some passes

Team Canada scored 3 powerplay goals in 11 opportunities
For all 3 goals, the defenseman did nothing

Pretty much the only time Weber was put on the powerplay was at the end of it

Burns 8:18 of powerplay time
Dougthy 6:39
Weber 4:10

Kypreos saying Seguin may be out of the tourney?
Pretty sure he practiced today.
Checking twitter...

??

Seems like this is fresh off the press news during the 1st intermission of tonights USA/FIN game.

ETA:

Does Hall get the call?
Who do we have @ RW?

It has to be Hall even though he is a LW.

Watch it be Rick Nash, lol.

Stone, Eberle, Simmonds and Gallagher would be natural right-handed shooting RWs available.

Oh Toffoli too, as Farnham below points out.

IF true, i could see them going RW cuz Giroux is banged up as well.
Dunno.

Likely Hall, Spezza or Nash.

Looks to be confirmed now...

@HC_Men Seguin knee not considered serious but needs 7-10 off skates. Not enough time for Can to wait. #WHC2016

O'Reilly makes the most sense as a replacement for Seguin. Good skater, very strong defensively, can come in on the PK rotation, and is very familiar with Duchene from his Colorado days so he may be able to hit the ground running on that 4th line. Him or Stone.

And he doesn't take penalties, which is important in a tournament like this.
