I don't want Marchand anywhere near my National team.

you can't always get what you want because he made it :naughty:

I think Marchy will go one of 2 ways... turn some heads/earn fans and be endearing.... OR take dumb penalties and gain more traction on the hate train lol

Probably already been to talk to death, but Muzzin over Subban and Letang??

No complaints.

Strangely enough, I trust the team that put together back to back Olympic Gold Medals.

So many hurt feelings here, almost like this effects people's daily lives.

Muzzin plays the left side and Subban and Letang play on the right side, which is already stacked for Canada. Babcock doesn't believe in playing defencemen out of position.

Exactly. People forget about the *****ing over guys like Vlasic and Bouwmeester being on the Sochi team and that worked out OK. It's typical of this kind of thing.

Letang is easily the biggest snub. The guy is the fourth best defenseman in the league right now and one of the few left playing. You make a spot for him.

Pretty sure unless your name is Crosby, Toews, Tavares, or Getzlaf, you won't be playing C.

Tavares should play wing over Giroux. Giroux is better at FO and is better defensively. And with Tavares being a better scorer, he fits better on the wing.

I have to agree. I would put Letang on the team ahead of Subban, Brodie, Giordano etc... that people seem to be talking about more as snubs. Letang deserves to be there.

and to add to that, Seguin and Giroux had some pretty good chemistry at last years WC so i can only imagine what adding Benn to that line would look like.

I'd hoped to see Taylor Hall, Logan Couture and Ryan O'Reiily named to the team but I really can't complain. None of the selections were ridiculous and several elite players were bound to be left off.

Doug Armstrong screwed up.

I think tha muzzin was also brought in for his size

Weber burns muzzin are really big

The other defence are pretty big

This is done too break up the cycle game the americans will try to bring in

Im just a little worried about the transition game

Most of the defence has a great transition game but how is transition for
Muzzin?
Vlasic?
Burns?

Also i think our forwards are very defensive oriented

I hope we dont have problems scoring, like we did in sochi

I think you'll see:

Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
Benn - Tavares - sequin

Or

Benn - Crosby - Stamkos
Marchand- Bergeron - Seguin

Where is it written in stone that Tavares has to play center? He can play ALL 3 forward positions...

This may seem far afield...BUT I'd like to see Giroux at center and with Seguin on his right side. The Two had great chemistry at WC 15.

I'm not sure Stamkos still has it...didn't even want him on the team...ditto Getzlaf...And Jumbo Joe at 37 next year, with all the centers already...that's a real head scratcher...

Wanted Hall to play on Crosby's left...again those guys had great chemistry at WC15

And Muzzin? I'll give HC the benefit of the doubt here, and hope to be pleasantly surprised...

Of the 13 forwards, only Marchand and Benn play wing exclusively in the NHL. So 7 centres will need to convert to the wing over the course of the tournament - some should have no problem doing so, like Carter, Bergeron, Seguin, Giroux, Stamkos and Duchene. It will get a bit iffy when it comes down to Thornton, Getzlaf and Tavares as one of those three will need to play the wing and as far as I know Thornton and Getzlaf haven't done so in recent memory.

Everyone that put any thought into it whatsoever knew that a third LHed d-man would be named, so no one should be surprised that Letang and Subban were left off. Muzzin surprised me, but with Armstrong's comments after the roster announcement it was clear that accepting invitations to the World Championships went a long way in their decision making, likely putting the nail in the coffin for Giordano and Brodie.

Overall, this does not appear to be a roster that Yzerman would have constructed, particularly the forward group. All of the guys named are excellent players and deserve to be there, but it's difficult to see where some of these guys will fit into the lineup (Thornton in particular). It seems a bit...sloppy. I'm very satisfied that Giroux was selected, and very surprised (but not upset) at the Perry omission. This roster was always going to be good enough to go into the tournament as the favourite, no matter who was selected and left off. Unfortunate for Hall, O'Reilly, Stone, Perry...but that's the way it goes I guess.

When was the last time Weber was actually a great defensive player? Picking him over Subban or Letang is the only ridiculous choice the TC brass made.

Hall not making it sucks, but not an egregious choice.

Weber is probably the best defenseman in the league on the boards in the D zone and he has exceptional gap control (which is why he's part of one of the best shutdown pairs in the league). This would be fairly obvious if you watch him, which I'm sure you don't.

Those players you listed are better than Duchene. So how he made it is beyond me.

It doesn't hurt that he has a cannon of a shot. Recall he scored a memorable goal against Russians in Vancouver...

Duchene was a lock for this team...great skater, great puckhandler...versatile yadda yadda...the only one else I wanted from that list was Hall....Giroux was a nice surprise...and Marchand was another good choice...
