I just made this account a few days ago and I've noticed that Oiler fans don't really like Duchene for some strange reason. Jealousy? :dunno:

Agreed, Duchene's versatility is a big plus and he can be more effective in a bottom-6 role or 13th forward than Hall. Hall is all offense and that isn't a need for Team Canada with the firepower they already have with the initial selections.

I get you don't watch oiler games because were 2-3 hours behind you.

But World Championships last week Hall led forwards among ice time in the semi-finals/Finals and they were defending the league. He's a workhorse and has way better 5v5 stats than Duchene. Neither of them would be getting powerplay time anyways. Also when did Duchene become a defensive stud?

I would have taken O'Reilly over Duchene if I wanted a defensivly sound center to convert to the wing.

I am disappointed that O'Reilly didn't make it, or Hall but on the other side, I am extremely happy that Giroux is finally(!) rewarded. He really deserves it. Very excited to watch him play on this team. And wow, Thornton... incredible, what a year he's having!

Kind of feel bad for Perry even though I didn't want him to make this team, he went to WHC, won the gold, was the captain. I thought that he's almost a lock. Never mind, time for new, different players.

Muzzin is a surprising selection, no doubt. But he's very underrated player. He was great for Canada at 2015 WHC, it could also play some role in deciding (but probably not), or Doughty connection. But he's great defenseman. Too bad for Letang, Subban... So many tough decisions to make.

I think that Duchene is very deserving his spot on this team.

Glad Giroux and Duchene made it. Perry and Hall while natural wingers were redundant it seems especially Hall's skillset, although it sucks for both those guys who showed loyalty to TC at the Worlds esp Hall. The most surprising inclusion to me was Thornton, wouldve rather taken Couture if recent lack of TC appearances wasnt the determining factor.

Giroux and Duchene have strong 2-way games, it's seems pretty clear to me how they'll be used on the 3rd and 4th lines. The top lines are already stacked with offensive talent so that won't be an issue. It's about building a team, not just stacking it up with offensive players.

Thornton is a bit of a weird one to me, he's going to have to play wing. Canada might have given him a nod as a lifetime achievement type of thing... he can still play though.

And Duchene was a big reason they had the lead at all.

2018 Olympic team forwards will be a treat to watch.

How Letang doesnt make this team is unbelievable. Really cant question any of the forward picks.

Canada could send two teams and medal.

I have to laugh at all the hurt feelings here. We brag all the time about Canadian depth, how no one can touch us in this regard, how we can ice three teams and still contend, then cry when there isn't enough room for every one on a 23-man roster.

Totally agree!

So many great players in this country. The management have a lot of hard decisions. We should be able to send two teams.

How can they leave off Burns with the season he had, and the fact he can move up to forward if push comes to shove with injuries.

Armstrong wasn't leaving off his own franchise No.1 D-man in Pietrangelo. Just wasn't happening. It's not like he's regressed since Sochi.

Is Letang one of Canada's best 7 D. Yeah probably. Unfortunate for him he shoots right.

I guess PP points still count, eh?

Glad that Giroux got in and it's so ridiculous how tough the Canadian roster would be even with their B/C team. No matter who you cut off there will be crying eventually, but I think Giroux has deserved this over the years and one's he gets thru the injury he'll be one of the best out there. I just hope he gets PP time.

Duchene played more minutes than Hall in that tournament. Plus when there were 10 seconds left in the championship game Duchene was chosen to go out so if you want to discuss situational minutes that answers that.

Since the lockout Taylor Hall has 4 more 5v5 points than Duchene while being worse defensively so I think saying Hall has "way better" 5v5 stats is a little far fetched.

Duchene was always a fair defensive player but really took that next step this past season. I wouldn't exactly call him a stud but he's in the upper tier as far as first line players rank in defensive play. He's gotten some Selke votes in the past.

As for ROR I agree with you.

All I hear is bitterness. Duchene finished second on the team in points, he makes everybody in the NHL around him better. Just because he didn't spoon feed McDavid the puck, or cater to Hall a few years ago, does not make him a selfish puck hog. You and the rest of your Oilers fans might want to wake up and realize that practically every fan of other teams, and Team Canada's brass (twice now), realizes how good of a player Duchene is.

He's ridiculously strong on the puck down low, he was used on the PK by Team Canada, clear trusted by the coaches (out there with seconds to go in the gold medal game), and pretty good defensively when he puts in the effort. You're just being utterly ridiculous.

You realize we have youtube right? Toews line was out there when we won Gold for the last 1:30 of the game. He didn't do much of anything at the olympics.

He was a center converted to wing that didn't add anything. No idea why this team needs 10 centers

Giroux has led the entire NHL in scoring over the last five years. And he's a terrific two-way hockey player who plays in all situations. He deserves to be on this team, and I'm pleased his overall game was recognized.

Yes, he's better on the PP than 5v5. WTF is your point?

Agreed. Factor in his 2 way play and versatility and, like Duchene, it was probably a pretty easy choice.
