Having been to both venues quite recently, these numbers look right to me. It can definitely have an effect on a team when they have to move to a different sized surface mid-tournament.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like a lot but I can see where it could be a disadvantage for teams going suddenly to the bigger surface in a do-or-die game.

I follow the national league here quite closely, and the team I support plays at Helsinki Ice Hall. There is a definite difference in performance when they play on the 30m wide surface. They never look quite as adept at using the width to their advantage as the home team. I don't think it's a big enough issue to be the difference between victory and defeat, but it's another thing to worry about and deal with.

A bunch of Team Canada players are from the Ontario Hockey League and, prior to this year, the Belleville Bulls played on an International-sized rink (the team since moved to Hamilton). I think it was 200ft x 100ft. Nobody on this year's team played for Belleville, that I know of, but they have played in that rink before. I'd hope that helps with the adjustment.

DraftBuzz Launches Free WJC App

It's not incredibly aesthetic, but I am hoping it is a fun project a good amount of people can use and find useful. Not making any money off of it, there are no ads, and it's not breaking the bank to host it.

Hoping to add contributors from the industry to provide game reports and other scouting analysis along with all of the other info. If interested, please email [email protected] with a sample and social media link.

I know I've read this somewhere, but can't figure out where. Do we know which QF games are at which arena? I know it's 1A v. 4B and so on, but which two are at Hartwall and which two are at Ice Hall?

They hardly have decided it themselves yet...LOL. It depends on who plays against whom, I reckon.,

Just guessing but I'd say 1B-4A and 2B-3A will be played at Hartwall Arena.

BUT: obviously if Finland is 3B or 4B, they will play QF at Hartwall Arena. And the 2B-3A would then be played at the Nordis (Ice Hall).

The only thing they have announced about the QF schedule is that if Finland goes to the quarter-finals, they will be playing in the 6 PM game in Hartwall Arena.

apologies if i missed it or if this isn't the proper thread, but when are rosters finalized?

So, it looks like Team Canada had settled in Scandic Park hotel... What about the other teams: are they all in that same hotel (or which is practically the same, the next neighbour of it, Crowne Plaza)? -- This should come handy for the fans willing to see players and get some autographs along the way.

Has anyone come up with a meeting spot in Helsinki for HF members?

Just decide one. A sport bar in the city centre could be one alternative. Like Sports Academy across the railway station, on Kaivokatu IIRC (in English, not Wall Street but rather Well Street :D).

It seems they made an "official" song for the tournament. Ofc it's Finland-biased but it's surprisingly okay, gets you kinda pumped up. Can't wait! I have tickets to the SWE-USA and CAN-DEN games.

A nice slowly flowing rap with melodic chorus or vice versa. Whatever. Pumps up indeed. And catches something like the sublime yet tribal in A minor, or something.:handclap:

Would anyone have interest for a ticket to the games in Helsinki Icehall on New Years Eve? I bought mine with full intention of going, but I think I will end up partying in my hometown rather than being in Helsinki for NYE - because I do want to party, but I can't be sure that I'll find bunch of hockey tourists to tag along with for it! Due to the short notice, I can't really mail it anywhere in time, but I will be in Helsinki during sunday before the Denmark vs. Switzerland game.

The tickets go for 29 euros, but if I can just hand it to you tomorrow (or unless you are in Porvoo before NYE), I'd be glad to give it away for, I dunno, 15 euros?

16:00 Denmark vs. USA and 20:00 Sweden vs. Canada
Upper Tribune E4, Row 2, Seat 114.
